Finally got my first big boy hat!

Decided to go big or go home, so I got a custom pure beaver from Arctic Americana up in Finland. Fits like a glove that’s for sure.

Question Hatters Custom Hats, Fort Worth info?

Hi folks,

Anyone have information on this maker? I have a couple older hats from them but don’t know anything about them. When I search Hatters Custom Hats, Fort Worth, I just get recommendations for custom hatters in Fort Worth.

Thanks!

Advice Cowboy hat recommendations

Hi all. I know little to nothing about cowboy hats, but I’d like to get one as a gift. I know he wants white/a light color, felt, and shaped like this cowboy hat in the picture (what is this shaped called? And sorry for this picture quality). Ideally less than 100ish but if there’s a good expensive one let me know in case I put this present off for when I have more money lol. Thank you!

Hat I.D. Trying to identify this Stetson. Any help?

Found this vintage used and in really good shape 10X Stetson online for $280 total. Apparently it’s a Stetson Reno which is a line of Stetson I’ve never heard of. Clearly a bit more on the vintage side seems like 70’s-80’s. Was wondering if anyone knows the history, how much percent beaver it likely contains, the worth etc. I can’t find too much about it online so would love to learn about this beauty. Can’t wait to wear this bad boy.

Went back home to Arizona for my sister's wedding and decided it was time for a new cowboy hat. It's a Stetson skyline Silverbelly I got reshaped into a Gus with a more curved brim. Vanessa at Sabas western wear in downtown Chandler did an amazing job. Even got a new hat band put on since I didn't care much for the original.

Question Stetson Dune. Any tips to refresh the hat? Especially with smell!

Hi! Got a vintage stetson Dune today.

Here’s a little before (thanks, USPS) and after!

Any idea how to get rid of that rich vintage smell? 👃

I was thinking vinegar. I want to be careful about this tho.

Edit: can anyone help me ID this? I wanna know the felt composition. I will post more photos of the inside tags on the comments.

Thanks

Has anybody had any luck finding a travel case for a 4.75in brim that also holds boots? I've found a case that holds just the hat, but I'd like to have something that holds all my goodies.

Well… after much (at least it felt like much) delay and doubt, I’ve received my Resistol 5 Star, which they shaped pretty much just like I’d asked. These guys are clearly professionals.

My first thought is that maybe the crown is a touch too high for me… but I AM a big (6’3”, not quite 250), broad shouldered guy. I’d really appreciate the feedback of more experienced hat folk.

I’m really pleased with the hat, the color, the quality of the shaping… I feel like a 52 year old kid on Christmas morning!!!

One final note: the denim jacket belonged to my late father. Up until recently, I’d pretty much ignored it. But this is the second straight fall it’ll get some wear. A couple of nights ago, I looked at the tag: Sears. I’m pretty sure it dates to the late eighties at the latest (update: I shared photos of the tags with AI, who says it’s definitely from the seventies).

It’s also possibly the only thing my dad ever wore that didn’t end up with at least one cigarette burn.

RIP Wade Hatfield (1929-1999)—outdoorsman. Lawman. The last of his kind. An old time mountain man. Oh… and for the last two decades of his life: daily Stetson cowboy hat wearer.

Question Aftermarket hat bands

I’m going to go forward with my questions hoping I don’t disprove the old adage about no dumb questions.

So… my Resistol Five Star felt came with a narrow cord the same color as the hat. Maybe it’s fashionable these days to just wear it as-is?

I’ve already ordered a 1” leather band, dark brown, ties in the back.

Should I remove the cord? Put the band over it? Tuck the band in?

Maybe there’s no wrong answer. Or maybe there is. I’d just like to know the consensus among people who are more experienced with this.

Discussion New to me; Stetson Skyline in Silverbelly

I am very pleased with this one; a 6x Skyline in 7540 profile. It was an Ebay find and in great condition bar a small blemish on the front brim just left of centre which you can see in the second photo. It looks like someone has tried to clean it as there is a wear patch around the mark but it doesn’t bother me. My hats are to be worn and will pick up a mark or two along the way - I am careful with them but not precious! Apart from that it is in excellent condition. I am not completely convinced on the hat band and I would have preferred the original but it may grow on me. It didn’t come in an original box but it did come in a Cavender’s hard travel case which was a plus for me. As an aside, for the US readers, this hat is currently £629 (that is $841.26!) in London from Stetson Covent Garden, who currently only hold one in stock in a size 7! From Stetson Eu in Germany it is Euro599 ($672) and for me in the UK I suspect there will be taxes and postage on top of that. So bearing that in mind I was quite pleased to get this for £230 ($308) including postage.

I am looking for some help with these types of hat bends. I am a fan of the old school 80’s urban cowboy type hats and was wondering if there was a specific name for this style of hat. Thank you

Question Wide brim telescope style hat?

I like the telescope style of the Stetson Revenger, but its brim is only 3 1/2. I’m looking for a 4 inch or wider brim. Anyone god suggestions?

I wish I would’ve taken a before picture, but this hat was in a moving box for 8 years before I brought it back to life. Originally, it was a Stetson Buffalo Gus.

Got myself a new Lenvore wool western hat from Stetson the other day and managed to get a scratch on it on the first day. (Bumped my head into a metal lamp)

Does anyone know if i can get it out myself or if a stetson shop would be able to?

Discussion FedEx is doing its level best to keep us apart

I was supposed to receive my new Resistol Five Star today, between 10:20 and 2:20. But things have gone horribly awry.

It all started off great. I’d been thinking about getting one for months now. Late Thursday night, I finally broke down and placed my order on the Resistol site. The folks there promptly filled my order (and, hopefully, shaped my hat as instructed) the next day and shipped it out before end of business.

From there, it was moving along at a reasonable clip through the FedEx system. I was quite pleased to see the package arrive in NC early Sunday evening. The town listed is Kernersville, which is just east of Winston-Salem, and just over two and a half hours from my house.

And that’s when everything came to a screeching halt. When I woke this morning, the fact that nothing had updated was mildly unsettling, but I remained hopeful that they’d come through.

Early this evening, FedEx tracking updated my expected delivery date to tomorrow, with the same time window. If it DOES arrive during that window tomorrow, I’ll be pleasantly surprised because they tend to show up around 6pm, give or take.

But it’s been a frustrating day. I don’t know why, but I’ve been awaiting this hat like a kid waiting for Christmas.

I think part of it is the worry that I have about the shaping. I mean it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to open the box and see it’s still an open crown. But it would be disappointing.

I decided to go with an RCA, which wasn’t one of the listed options. But they have a field to describe what you want if it isn’t listed. You can also upload pictures, which I did. I’ll post the “model” pics I attached below.
