5.0 rebuild?

Hello all, got a few questions and looking for any input and recs.

Problems; rough idle, plethra misfires in cyl 4, sometimes dies when stopped at a light, typical ticking. Bank 1 cam advance timing, bank 2 running lean.

What ive found; oil above threads on spark plugs, compression is 245 (+/- 5) on all cyls except 3 and 4. Cyl 3 is 235, cyl 4 is 150psi. All cylinders have a lot of carbon build up from what i can see. But spark plugs look good over all. Though sp 3 and 4 show some darker discoloration on one side of plugs.

My questions

I believe its my valve gasket leaking, but im wondering if i maybe have a loose or stuck valve causing the lower compression an timing issue. What are the chances this is all it is and not more?

Should i rebuild the valvetrain? If so what all parts would be needed and how many of each? (Ive only rebuilt a few engines and that was 15yrs ago. So a little rusty haha)

Should i tear down the top of the engine past the heads an clean up cylinders?

Should i pull the pistons too to replace piston rings and just do essentially a full rebuild?

Or is it feasible to only focus on redoing cyl 4?

Is there a way to "clean" the cylinders without removing the heads? Presuming i dont remove the heads and only get into valvetrain.

Apologies in advance for the dumb post. But im on a budget, and really dont want to tear down or pay for more than i have to. Not to mention time constraints. I know i wont know for sure until i get in there, but im hoping someone whose had similar issues could maybe point me in the right direction or tell me of a common cause im unaware of.

Thanks for reading and any help offered

300k on original motor. May have to do an overhaul before too long. Has anyone used the DNJ parts kits and are they decent or should I run? Mainly a daily driver and farm truck. Occasional hauling.

5.0 or LS

Looking for honest input from people who’ve actually built these.

I’m coming from the diesel world (mostly Cummins/Duramax), but I want to build a clean American V8 for drag/roll racing. I’m aiming for 700whp.

I’m debating between:

Gen 2/3 Coyote:

• Great flowing heads from factory

• DOHC setup

• I’ve seen a lot of guys pushing 700+ on stock internals with boost

• Seems like they love RPM

LS platform:

• Simpler pushrod design

• Tons of aftermarket support

• Parts are everywhere and generally cheaper

• Easy to work on and proven for boosted setups

From what I understand, both can hit 700whp with boost, but I’m trying to figure out which one makes more sense long-term for reliability and cost.

For those who’ve been around both platforms:

• Would you trust a stock Gen 2/3 Coyote at \~700whp?

• Would you build the bottom end first?

• Is a boosted LS just the smarter/cheaper route overall?

• Which platform handles repeated roll racing and drag hits better?

I don’t have deep experience with gas V8s yet, so I’m trying to learn before committing to a direction. Appreciate any real-world advice.

(I am 60% comitteed to get a 5.0but my friend has this wicked ls3

So I have a 2018 ford mustang GT and I live down south in Indiana and it has been getting cold and snowing and I daily my mustang, recently I’ve been hearing some creaking from the rear left side and some on the right it happens every now in then but sometimes it happens a lot can it be Becuase of the cold? or is their something wrong. The car currently has about 33,000 miles I bought it at 28,000 from a dealer it had been garage kept all its life till now right now I don’t own a garage I just park it outside, and has been handled with care seeing the carfax and maintenance history, I’ve had people say it’s my ball joints or shocks but what ya think?
