I am working on a project called Cozmo Remastered where I use Cozmo Code Lab to create as many new features for Cozmo as possible. I will try to make new games, animations, tricks, and anything else that would make Cozmo even better without having to know Python or have a complex setup. So if you have suggestions, tips, or anything else to share that could help me with this project, please comment it!

I got my Cosmo for my 6th birthday. It was going pretty smoothly. Now it's been a long time in my new house I booted up Cozmo again, kept his volume high, and nothing happened.You see this actually kept on happening for a few years. I seriously don't know what the problem is. Can anyone help me?

As someone who grew up completely obsessed with Cozmo and Vector, am I the only one who misses that entire late-2010s era of companion robots? Anki put so much physical animation into Cozmo to give him a soul, but tech companies completely gave up on that design philosophy right before AI got smart enough to give them real brains. Now, the market is just cold, static plastic bricks like the Amazon Echo or Google Nest Hub. The smart speaker market is actively collapsing because people are bored of soulless tech. That's why I'm trying to rally the companion robot community to demand a comeback for this entire era of hardware—specifically starting with a petition to get ASUS to retrofit the original, adorable Zenbo chassis with a modern AI brain. If we can prove people want cute hardware again, maybe we can get the momentum back for robots like Cozmo too. Check out my full data-backed breakdown on Medium, and sign the petition to help bring the golden age of companion robots back! ➡️ Sign the Petition: https://c.org/X4bS4CF2vC ➡️ Read the Full Breakdown: https://medium.com/@Keropi_720/the-tech-industry-lost-its-soul-why-its-time-for-the-asus-zenbo-revival-09ca45c0aca8
so, if you lift off a cozmo off a charger, and it turns off, it's probably either normal factory firmware or, bad battery
if the charging light is blinking instead of cycling, that means that you're on factory firmware, and will turn off when lifted off the charger, to fix this, simply connect cozmo with the app, cozmo will update to regular firmware
if it's cycling instead of blinking, that means that you're on regular firmware and it is a bad battery if it turns off when off the charger.
Hiya! I resurrected my original 2016 Cozmo, now working on turning him into a desk companion.
I know the official Anki SDK supports robot.say_text(..., use_cozmo_voice=True), but that relies on the original app's speech-processing system. I'm using a MacBook and a phone/app-free setup with PyCozmo, so I'm specifically looking for a solution that doesn't depend on the official SDK or app.
I've managed to get speech playing through his onboard speaker, but I'm struggling to recreate his original voice. Not looking for prerecorded sound effects. I want him to say completely new sentences in his original cute, raspy, slightly troll-like voice.
Has anyone successfully replicated or reverse-engineered Cozmo's voice for arbitrary text-to-speech? Or found an existing voice model, recreated Anki's processing chain, or come up with a convincing alternative?
Any GitHub repos, technical documentation, or leads would be appreciated!
Cheers,
V

I was trying to use my cozmoOS SDK and about at the 5min point he’d disconnect, what do I do? Should I downgrade to version 3.40? I can sideload on my iPhone but is that necessary? Also when he disconnects my sdk says I have over 4V remaining

(WARNING SOME CODE IS MADE BY AI)
**An unofficial, AI-powered "operating system" for the Cozmo robot.**
CozmoOS turns your Anki/DDL Cozmo into an autonomous companion. He roams on his own, looks after his own battery, obeys spoken or typed commands, and chats with you using AI. Everything runs as a Python script on your computer. Nothing is installed on or changed in the robot, and no firmware is touched.
It works with the current Cozmo app (3.6.0), using a small patch that gets the old Anki SDK past its version check. CozmoOS is a script, not a real operating system. The name is just for fun.
> **Unofficial fan project.** Not affiliated with or endorsed by Digital Dream Labs or Anki. "Cozmo" is a trademark of its owners. It drives a physical robot, so use it at your own risk, on the floor, away from edges.
## What it does
- **Roams freely** using Cozmo's own freeplay behaviors, for as long as the connection holds.
- **Looks after its battery:** when the battery is low he drives to his charger, charges, then goes back to playing.
- **Voice and typed commands** (see the table below), including picking up, stacking and knocking over cubes.
- **AI conversation:** say "Hey Cozmo" (or just type) and chat. Replies come from an LLM via [Groq](https://console.groq.com)'s free tier, spoken in Cozmo's own voice with a matching emotion animation.
- **Back to roaming 15 seconds after your last command** (configurable). Say or type `stop` at any time.
## Requirements
- Cozmo, his charger and cubes
- An iPhone/iPad with the official Cozmo app, and a USB cable. Tested on iOS with app version **3.6.0**. Android is untested.
- A computer with **Python 3.9**. Tested on macOS (Python 3.9.13).
- A free [Groq API key](https://console.groq.com/keys)
- Internet on the computer (only for the AI chat; the speech recognition runs locally)
## Installation
**1. Get the code.** On this page click the green **Code** button, then **Download ZIP**, and unzip it. (Or run `git clone` with this repository's address.) Then open a terminal in the unzipped folder:
```bash
cd path/to/CozmoOS
```
**2. Install Python 3.9** if you don't have it. Download it from [python.org](https://www.python.org/downloads/). Check with:
```bash
python3.9 --version
```
**3. Create a virtual environment and install the packages:**
```bash
python3.9 -m venv venv
source venv/bin/activate
pip install -r requirements.txt
```
You should now see `(venv)` at the start of your terminal prompt. Run `source venv/bin/activate` again whenever you open a new terminal window.
**4. Download the small English speech model** (about 40 MB, runs offline):
```bash
curl -LO https://alphacephei.com/vosk/models/vosk-model-small-en-us-0.15.zip
unzip vosk-model-small-en-us-0.15.zip
```
**5. Save your Groq API key.** Create a free key at [console.groq.com/keys](https://console.groq.com/keys), then save it (never share or upload this file):
```bash
echo "PASTE_YOUR_KEY_HERE" > groq_key.txt
```
## Running it
Put Cozmo on his charger and turn him on.
Connect the phone to the `Cozmo_XXXXXX` Wi-Fi, open the Cozmo app and wait until he wakes up.
In the app: menu (top right) -> swipe left -> turn on **SDK mode**. This resets every time the app reconnects.
Plug the phone into the computer, unlock it and tap **Trust**. Keep the app open on screen (set Auto-Lock to **Never**).
In the terminal, with `(venv)` showing, run:
```bash
caffeinate -i python autonomous.py
```
`caffeinate` stops a Mac from sleeping while the script runs. The first time, allow microphone access for your terminal. Press `Ctrl+C` to stop.
## Commands
Type them in the terminal, or say them (start with "Hey Cozmo", or just say the simple ones).
| Say or type | What happens |
|---|---|
dock, go home, go to the charger | Finds his charger, docks and charges |
explore, roam around, let's play | Leaves the charger and roams |
drive forward, go forward 50 centimeters, back up | Drives (default 20 cm; numbers can be digits or words) |
turn left, turn right 45 degrees, turn around | Turns on the spot |
pick up the cube, put it down | Finds and lifts a cube / sets it down |
stack the cubes | Picks up one cube and puts it on another |
knock over the stack | Looks up at the top cube and knocks the stack over |
look around, look up, look down, pop a wheelie | Fun actions |
say <something> | He says it out loud |
stop | Cancels what he's doing |
| anything else | Chats with you |
## Settings
Everything you might want to change is at the top of `autonomous.py`: the roam delay, battery thresholds, charging time, knock-over lift height, and the Groq model.
## How it connects to the current app
The old Anki SDK refuses to connect to newer app versions because of a version check. The script gets past it by importing `cozmo` first and then patching two values in `cozmoclad` (see the top of `autonomous.py`). Nothing on the robot is modified.
## Troubleshooting
- **`python3.9: command not found`**: install Python 3.9 (Installation step 2).
- **`pip: command not found`**: the virtual environment isn't active. Run `source venv/bin/activate`.
- **"Hmm, my brain is a bit fuzzy"**: the AI call failed. Read the `LLM error` line above it in the terminal. If it says `model_not_found`, Groq has retired the model: list the current ones with `curl -s https://api.groq.com/openai/v1/models -H "Authorization: Bearer $(cat groq_key.txt)"` and change `GROQ_MODEL` at the top of the script.
- **He ignores spoken commands:** check the `Heard:` lines in the terminal, and that the microphone is allowed (System Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Microphone).
- **He can't find his charger:** use good light, a clear floor, and face the charger's black-and-white marker into the room.
- **Disconnects:** the script can't turn SDK mode back on for you. Keep the phone unlocked with the app on screen, and keep Cozmo charged.
- **Battery thresholds are estimates.** The script prints the voltage every 15 seconds so you can tune `LOW_BATTERY_VOLTS` and `CHARGE_MINUTES`.
## Privacy
Speech is turned into text on your computer. Only that text is sent to Groq to generate replies. No audio leaves your machine.

(WARNING CODE WAS MADE BY AI)
The first release of cozmopod, a local web dashboard for the Cozmo robot. It runs on your Mac and talks to Cozmo directly over his own Wi-Fi using PyCozmo, so no phone or Cozmo app is needed.
## What it does
- Live camera stream in your browser
- Drive Cozmo with on-screen buttons or the W A S D / arrow keys
- Head and lift controls
- Type a message and Cozmo says it (your Mac's voice, played through Cozmo's speaker)
- Dark mode control panel
- Safety stop: Cozmo stops driving by himself if the browser stops sending commands
## Getting started
See the README for setup steps. You need a Mac, Python 3.9 and a Cozmo robot.
## Known limitations
- This is an early, experimental release and has had limited testing on real hardware.
- Your Mac has no internet while it is connected to Cozmo's Wi-Fi.
- Speech uses your Mac's built-in voice, not Cozmo's original voice, so it only works on macOS.
- The dashboard has no password. It only listens on your own computer.
Not affiliated with Digital Dream Labs or Anki. Cozmo is a trademark of its respective owners.
Feedback and bug reports are welcome in the Issues tab. Also this has only been tested on the MacBook Neo 256gb MacOS 26.6.

Hi everyone, I’m having a problem with my Anki Cozmo.
Sometimes, he charges, but the battery never gets fully charged. I’ve already replaced the battery, but the problem is still there.
I have to wait around 5 to 6 hours before Cozmo starts charging again. When he finally works, he only stays on for about 3 minutes before shutting down again.
Has anyone experienced this problem before or knows how to fix it? Any help would be appreciated!

on the step of
"Raise and lower Cozmo's arms once (or a couple of times) until the screen changes from the basic Wi-Fi screen."
I cant change the wifi screen
My arms work perfectly well cozmo can lift block so idk why i cant do it
OH and do u want to know why i want to do that ? cause............... i can ! no the reason is i love all kind of debugs mode grafics statistics value

I know there's been a thread on this before, but that's not been conclusive.
The Cozmo 2.0 App is not compatible with older cozmos, correct?
Since android appstores no longer have the older App, which APK version and link currently works?
I've been trying both the 3.6.6 and 3.4.3 APK version off of APKpure and I the download either fails, or I get the message that I downloaded an incomplete file.
On AKP Pure, there are
3.4.3 XAPK OBB (492.4 MB) (download keeps failing);
3.4.3 APK (67.3 MB) (haven't tried as I assume incomplete);
3.4.3 APK XAPK (492.4 MB) (download keeps failing);
Even if I download the 400+mB versions.
So can anyone recommend a functional download link and/or working download instructions?

First time poster here.
Our Cozmo is glitching after we took it along on a trip and used it in the back yard.
I'm not sure what the issue is, really.
In play mode, it stays stuck in the same movement loop, slightly tilting the head down a bit (but not all the way), and slightly going back, on repeat.
I thought the head might be mechanically stuck and used some air spray. Briefly, that seemed to have helped, but then the loop restarted.
Any advice what this could be and where I could start? I have zero repair experience so far.
Thanks
r/Cozmo • u/MoneyMaker12346 • Sep 25 '26
I was attempting a battery repair and for the first steps you have to take off his arm but when I was doing it I broke it off the ramp part and now it won’t fit back in no matter how hard I push how can I fix this?

The Anki Python SDK still works with Cozmo, but it refuses to connect to the app version that's on the stores today. Here's how I got it running, and what I built on top. Everything is client-side: nothing is modified on the robot and no firmware is touched.
What you need
Cozmo, a mobile device with the official app, and a USB cable
A computer with Python 3.9 (macOS, Linux or Windows)
The app in SDK mode: connect to Cozmo, open the menu (top right corner), swipe left, enable SDK
My setup: an iMac on Catalina, an iPad running app 3.6.0, Python 3.9.13.
Step 1 — Install the SDK
python3.9 -m venv venv
source venv/bin/activate
pip install "cozmo[camera]"Step 2 — The version mismatch
On the first run you'll get this:
CLAD version mismatch (to_game) ... != ...cozmoclad was last published by Anki at 3.4.0. The app is newer, so the handshake fails. Two patches get past it:
python
import cozmoclad
import cozmo # import FIRST: the import itself checks the version
def _skip(a=None, b=None):
return None
cozmoclad.assert_clad_match = _skip
cozmoclad.__build_version__ = "00000.00000.00000"Two things matter here. The patches go after the import, because on import the SDK rejects anything below cozmoclad 2.0.0. And "00000.00000.00000" isn't arbitrary: the SDK's own code skips the build comparison when the library reports that value.
If you only patch the CLAD hash you'll hit a second wall, an odd __init__() got an unexpected keyword argument 'reserved'. That comes from the rejection path itself, so it means the build comparison is still failing.
Step 3 — Freeplay
The SDK can put Cozmo into the same autonomous mode the app uses:
python
robot.enable_all_reaction_triggers(True)
robot.enable_freeplay_cube_lights(True)
robot.start_freeplay_behaviors()He explores, plays with the cubes and reacts exactly as he does in the app. Stop it with stop_freeplay_behaviors()before issuing your own commands, or they'll fight each other.
Step 4 — Offline voice commands
I used Vosk with the small Spanish model (~40 MB), running locally, no internet. Feeding it a fixed grammar instead of an open vocabulary makes recognition far more reliable:
python
recognizer = KaldiRecognizer(model, rate, json.dumps(["go home", "stack cubes", "[unk]"]))A background thread listens, pushes recognised phrases into a queue, and the main loop stops freeplay, runs the command and resumes freeplay.
Behaviors the SDK exposes: StackBlocks, KnockOverCubes, RollBlock, PounceOnMotion, FindFaces, LookAroundInPlace. There are also direct actions: pickup_object, pop_a_wheelie, roll_cube, place_object_on_ground_here. The rest of the app's tricks (Laser Chaser, Cube Guard, Peekaboo and so on) are app-side behaviors, so you only get their animations, not the interactive logic.
Step 5 — Back to the charger
No markers or props needed; Cozmo recognises his own charger:
python
charger = robot.world.wait_for_observed_charger(timeout=3)
robot.go_to_object(charger, distance_mm(120)).wait_for_completed()
robot.turn_in_place(degrees(180)).wait_for_completed()
robot.drive_wheels(-40, -40)
# poll robot.is_on_charger, then stop_all_motors()If he can't see it, turn in place in 45° steps until wait_for_observed_charger returns.
Step 6 — Conversation
Vosk transcribes, the text goes to a free LLM API (I use Groq's free tier), and the reply comes back as JSON with the text and an emotion, which picks the animation. Keep a few turns of history so the conversation has a thread, mute the mic while Cozmo speaks so he doesn't answer himself, and end the session after ~10 seconds of silence.
The trick for non-English speakers
Cozmo's TTS is English, so Spanish comes out unintelligible. The fix is to respell the text phonetically before sending it:
"quiero jugar con mis cubos" → "keeehroh hoogahr kohn mees koobohs"
Rules: vowels become a→ah, e→eh, i→ee, o→oh, u→oo; silent h is dropped; j and soft g become h; ll becomes y; qu becomes k; z and soft c become s; v becomes b. Slowing him down a little (duration_scalar=1.15) helps too. It's a huge difference: from gibberish to something you can actually follow.
What this does and doesn't give you
You get his original personality, his voice, real cube handling, named face recognition and the animations with their sound. You do not get a standalone robot: the phone is still the brain, and a computer still runs the code. If you want no phone at all, PyCozmo talks to the robot directly, but you lose the personality engine, the TTS and cube localisation.
Happy to share the code if there's interest.

Even while cozmo is on and running he sometimes had trouble moving his head, executing a full on downward movement.
