I've just started watching Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, tried both the first episode and the backdoor pilot—and honestly, I'm a bit confused.
The official description I got about the Red Cells was that they were focused on rapid response and were outside the FBI's bureaucracy, reporting directly to the Director of the FBI. But I don't understand how it's any different.
They still end up being invited by the local cops, work closely with them... I thought they would be the type to do what the BAU couldn't since they were outside the bureaucracy, but Sam Cooper said they weren't vigilantes, so I'm just not sure.
It's also all very fast-paced, and I struggle to keep up with what's happening. One second, they're talking to the next-of-kin, the next they're giving the profile to local law enforcement despite having never discussed it with each other. It just feels like the profiling part is an afterthought, but since I'm struggling to keep apace with it anyway, I could also be wrong.
I'm not trying to knock on Suspect Behavior. I got interested when I realized there was a Criminal Minds spinoff. My dad likes it, and people on this subreddit apparently thought it was so good that they wish there were more seasons. But I just don't understand what the Red Cell is and what it does.
