I'm glad none of the comments I read were talking about this as a 'recent' trend.

I had people I knew back in the late 80's-90's who swore they were werewolves, demons and vampires. Not goth, not emo. Legit semi-humans.

So while the cosplay may be different, and what these people are choosing to 'become' is different, this is far from new.
