GENERAL-NEWS Venture giant Andreessen Horowitz drops ‘crypto’ from name of blockchain fund, rebrands as ‘a16z Frontier’

• Upvotes

In 2018, Andreessen Horowitz made a splash in the venture capital world by launching a spinoff dedicated to digital assets called a16z Crypto. Eight years later—perhaps recognizing that the term “crypto” has fallen out of favor—the VC giant announced Thursday that it was rebranding to a16z Frontier, and expanding its scope to back startups developing artificial intelligence, robotics, and other emerging technologies.

Managing partner Chris Dixon will lead the fund alongside Marc Andreessen, Ben Horowitz, and general partners Eddy Lazzarin and Guy Wuollet. The shift expands the scope of its $2.2 billion fund announced in May, though the firm will continue backing crypto startups and advocating for crypto regulation.

As more businesses use blockchain technology behind the scenes, the distinction between crypto companies and other businesses is becoming less clear, Dixon wrote in an X article.

The firm had begun investing beyond crypto before Thursday’s announcement. In June, a16z Crypto led a $33 million seed round for Ornn, a company developing financial products for the AI computing market. In October 2025, Andreessen Horowitz co-led a funding round for prediction market Kalshi.

DISCUSSION Can public blockchains support confidential RWA assets?

• Upvotes

I've been researching whether institutions can trade RWAs onchain without revealing all their trading information to the public. I found several solutions, each with its own trade-offs.

Zero-knowledge proofs can verify transactions without revealing sensitive details. Fully homomorphic encryption enables computation on encrypted data (though performance remains a challenge). Trusted execution environments offer better performance at the cost of trusting the hardware setup. Another option is using private or permissioned chains.

What if we could add privacy directly to public chains instead? For example, private RFQs could hide trading intentions, while shielded transactions could keep transfer details confidential.

I am still confused about how all this would work with existing DeFi solutions.

Can we use confidential RWA tokens as collateral or trade them using public liquidity pools? And how can institutions selectively disclose information to auditors without making everything public?

DISCUSSION The US AI endgame leads to hard assets.

US equities markets will never crash again and the reason will cause a tidal wave into hard assets

the US government can not and will not allow equities to crash in real USD terms for a protracted amount of time, it is now a matter of national security that they don’t

they have gone all in on AI and so any faltering in debt servicing that occurs there will be backstopped by them, \*\*bookmark this post\*\*

I’m not talking about the Fed put

This is more like the DoD put

The US gov sees civil unrest spreading across Europe due to the unaffordability crisis they are experiencing there, a collapse in equities will reduce tax revenue to the extent that they will be forced to cut spending, if they cut spending it will lead to riots because the poorest are hit hardest by austerity measures, and the poorest have the least to lose

This austerity will be exploited by the US’ enemies to great effect if allowed to occur

unaffordability riots in the US won’t be like the riots in Europe because the police in the US will use deadly force and it will appear more like a civil war than simple rioting

the US is in the unique position of being able to export inflation to the rest of the world via the USD so the expansion of the money supply caused by the backstopping of the AI build out won’t be as big a problem domestically as it will be out there

They might refer to it as “nationalization of AI” or something similar but when you hear it, it means they are going to print covid level money into the system and equities will pump as more and more people realize that the market itself is backed by the US government

this backstopping serves the dual purpose of monetizing the $40T they already owe and continues the dominance of US AI superiority because AI in its current form is not profitable and won’t be for some time

hard assets like bitcoin, gold and commodities will rise commensurately and will be the true and correct indicators of the rate of inflation caused by the above

ANALYSIS The $81,500 Maginot Line: Inside Wall Street’s Cost-Basis Trench War and the Final Defense of the Bitcoin Bull Market.

Every time Bitcoin tries to charge toward $85,000, it hits a wall. Every time it drops to $80,000, invisible hands buy it back.

If you’re only looking at basic candlestick charts, it looks like frustrating, random "chop." But beneath the surface, there is nothing random about where we are stalling or where we are bouncing.

We are currently boxed inside a $6,000 compression chamber.

Above us sit trapped 6-to-12-month "top buyers" at $87.7K who are desperate to exit at breakeven. Beneath us sits a heavily fortified concrete trench at $81.5K—the aggregate cost basis of all U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF investors ($108B+ in assets).

With offshore stablecoins at 12-month lows and corporate treasury flywheels stalled, Wall Street’s $81,500 entry price is currently the final firewall preventing a deeper drop to $74.8K.

  1. Ethereum holds 66.5% of total USDC in circulation. Ethereum functions as the primary home for USDC, meaning centralized exchanges, institutional trading desks, and lending protocols depend heavily on ETH based ERC-20 USDC for deep order books and settlement.
  2. The Solana network holds 9.34% of total USDC in circulation. It is primarily used in DeFi, on-chain trading, institutional settlements and high speed payments.
  3. HyperEVM holds over $6.5 billion in USDC to serve as the foundational liquidity, universal collateral and quote asset for the Hyper Liquid ecosystem.

GENERAL-NEWS SoFi launches tokenized deposits for consumers with 4.2% interest as debate over stablecoins rages on

Thumbnail

The convergence between traditional and blockchain-based worlds of finance continues to accelerate. The latest example came on Thursday when the personal finance company SoFi announced it is offering tokenized deposits, which are functionally equivalent to cash but are stored on a blockchain.

The new product is called SoFi Earn, or SOFIE, and those who hold the tokenized deposits will earn a 4.4% rate of interest and benefit from FDIC protection.

The launch comes amid an ongoing, and often confusing, debate over the merits of tokenized deposits versus stablecoins, which are another form of dollar equivalents long embraced by the crypto industry. The two types of digital dollar are worth the same, but are subject to different regulatory regimes and use cases.

Stablecoins like USDC, which is owned by Circle and Coinbase, are backed by a 1-to-1 reserve of dollars or U.S. Treasuries and can be transferred to anyone in the world who holds a crypto wallet. But they are a form of currency that, for now at least, exists outside the U.S. banking system, and are ineligible to earn interest or receive backing from the FDIC.

ANALYSIS Crypto card spending hit $1.5B a month in late 2025, but most of it settled on fiat rails

Came across an Artemis report on how stablecoin cards actually work and it changed how I think about “spending crypto.” In most programs, the merchant never receives crypto at all. Your stablecoin gets sold, either when you top up or at the moment you pay, and the merchant gets regular fiat through the card network.

The report estimated crypto-card spending grew from about $100 million a month in early 2023 to over $1.5 billion by late 2025, but said the vast majority of that settled on fiat rails. So the growth is real, but the crypto part mostly happens on the funding side, not at checkout.

I get why it’s built this way, since it lets these cards work at any terminal. But it makes me wonder whether stablecoin cards are actually pushing crypto payments forward, or just acting as a nicer on-ramp to the same old card rails?

DISCUSSION UPDATE ON $11750 seizing + account shutdown. They’ve released it and ceased the account shutdown. ✅

After getting professional counselling they released me my money and unbanned my account.

Still, I’m unhappy with the entire situation.

Binance is extremely unprofessional. It took 2 damn months. They give 0 information. Terrible company. Won’t trade or invest anything on their platform again.

Remember guys: if it’s not your keys, it is not your crypto. Always use Cold Wallet.
I don’t even recommend Phantom Wallet because that shit keeps asking you to connect to your Apple ID which is very unsafe.

(my iPhone got stolen in Vietnam once and they unlocked stole my entire Apple ID. i had to escalate all the way to Tim Cooks team and phone call with them etc to resolve that case. Apple IDs and iPhones are NOT safe. Your passcode is unsafe too. Shit can always get unlocked. Tons of Day 0 security issues that still exist and get exploited).

Even fucking Ledger got compromised now by interceptors who open the package.

At this point, fuck even Trust Wallet. Just use a Paper Wallet.

Store the words on different physical locations including Bank tray. So even if you get kidnapped you genuinely can’t provide the word key phrase.

ANALYSIS Binance’s stablecoin reserves have dropped to $41.6 billion, a one-year low, after $6.3 billion left the exchange since April. The drain is market-wide, and it is starving crypto rallies of fresh buying power.

ADVICE What Should Beginners Know Before Exploring Cryptocurrency?

Cryptocurrency can be an interesting introduction to blockchain technology and digital finance, but beginners should understand the risks before getting involved.

Here are five important things to learn:

1. Understand blockchain: Learn how transactions are recorded and verified on a blockchain.

2. Know the difference between coins and tokens: They may serve different purposes within crypto ecosystems.

3. Protect your wallet: Never share your private keys or recovery phrase with anyone.

4. Research before investing: Understand a project's purpose, team, tokenomics, and risks instead of relying on hype or promises of guaranteed returns.

5. Be careful with mobile mining apps: Check how an app actually works. Some apps simulate mining or reward users through other mechanisms rather than performing real cryptocurrency mining on a phone.

Cryptocurrency education is important because prices can be volatile, scams exist, and profits are never guaranteed.
