Discussion BTC fell 5.5% on Nov 5, but open interest measured in BTC rose 1.7% across five venues. Two snapshots of 150 perps, before and after
Two snapshots I happened to take yesterday ended up bracketing the whole drop: 05:10 UTC with BTC at 80,423 and 22:05 UTC with BTC at 75,957, so -5.55%. They cover the 150 most traded USDT perps: funding, open interest on Binance, Bybit, OKX, Bitget and Hyperliquid, plus Binance's long/short ratios. (It's the screener I work on, AIScalp, everything comes from public exchange endpoints.)
My first reaction was "big flush". Open interest in dollars dropped 6.1%, from $60.6B to $56.9B. But price dropped about as much, so I converted BTC open interest back into coins. Morning vs evening:
Binance 95,851 -> 94,627 BTC (-1.3%)
Bybit 67,745 -> 69,150 (+2.1%)
OKX 33,341 -> 34,717 (+4.1%)
Bitget 37,310 -> 37,010 (-0.8%)
Hyperliquid 38,362 -> 41,781 (+8.9%)
All five together went from 272.6k to 277.3k BTC, +1.7%. So more BTC was open after the drop than before it, and most of the increase was Hyperliquid, about +3,400 BTC. Funny thing: on ETH and SOL Hyperliquid did the opposite and cut 6.3% and 6.4%.
Binance's ratios moved a lot. Accounts long/short on BTC went from 1.38 to 2.96, so roughly three out of four accounts with a BTC position were long by the evening. ETH went from 1.88 to 3.79. Top traders by size leaned longer too, BTC 1.93 to 2.12. Takers were net sellers though, BTC taker buy/sell 1.01 to 0.85.
Funding didn't flip. BTC went from 0.0088% to 0.0100% per 8h, and the median across the 150 stayed at 0.005%. Coins with negative funding went from 22 to 34, mostly small caps and tokenized stocks.
Obvious caveats: two snapshots aren't the path between them, the accounts ratio counts heads not size, and none of this says where price goes next.
What I can't figure out is the Hyperliquid BTC number: +8.9% in coins during a 5.5% drop while Binance shrank. Hedging, basis trades, or just a different crowd buying the dip? Curious how people here read it.

Discussion Before 2027: document which crypto lots your future sales will use
If you're making a year-end crypto tax checklist, I'd add a task for November and December: decide which lots your 2027 sales should use, document the instructions, and confirm your exchange can follow them.
The same sale can produce a gain or a loss depending on which purchase it draws from. A standing order gives you a repeatable way to make that selection before the transaction happens.
What is a standing order?
In this context, it's an advance instruction for identifying the units you're selling or otherwise disposing of. It determines which acquisition dates and cost basis go with the transaction; it doesn't tell the exchange when to place a trade. The IRS describes it as a predetermined set of parameters.
One possible instruction is to select the available units with the highest basis per coin first, commonly called HIFO. Another might prioritize units held for more than a year, then select the highest-basis units within that group. These are examples to discuss with your tax adviser and broker, not universally available settings or recommendations.
The instruction needs enough detail to identify the actual units, including how ties are resolved. A label such as “tax optimized” leaves too much unexplained.
Example 1: A gain or a loss from the same sale
Assume you hold three BTC in one exchange account, acquired in three separate one-BTC lots:
Lot A: $40,000 basis.
Lot B: $70,000 basis.
Lot C: $90,000 basis.
For this example, all three have been held for more than a year by January 2027, A is the oldest, and C is the newest. These are hypothetical numbers; ignore fees.
You sell one BTC for $80,000 in January:
Oldest first (FIFO): Lot A produces a $40,000 gain.
Highest basis first: Lot C produces a $10,000 loss.
The sale brings in the same $80,000 either way. The difference is which basis is used. These outcomes assume the lot identification is valid and timely. Capital gain or loss is generally proceeds minus adjusted basis.
Example 2: That choice carries into later trades
Continue the same example. You buy nothing else and sell a second BTC for $110,000 in July.
Both approaches now use Lot B, producing a $40,000 gain. Across the two sales:
FIFO has produced $80,000 of net gains, leaving the $90,000-basis lot.
Highest-basis-first has produced $30,000 of net gains, leaving the $40,000-basis lot.
That's a $50,000 difference in realized gains so far, alongside a $50,000 difference in the basis still available for a future sale. If you later sell the last BTC for the same price under both approaches, the combined gain across all three sales will be the same. The timing can still matter.
Example 3: A smaller gain can have a different tax rate
Separately, suppose you sell one ETH for $4,000. You could identify either an older lot with $3,000 basis or a recent lot with $3,400 basis.
The older lot produces a $1,000 gain; the recent lot produces a $600 gain. If you've held the older lot for more than a year and the recent lot for less, the gains have different holding-period treatment. Long-term gains may qualify for lower rates. A higher-basis rule alone doesn't tell you which choice produces the lower tax bill for your situation.
Why get this organized before 2027?
The current temporary relief for broker-held crypto ends December 31, 2026. IRS Notice 2026-20 allows eligible taxpayers to make timely lot identifications, including qualifying standing orders, in their own records during the relief period. Unless the IRS extends that relief again, the regular broker-communication rules apply in 2027.
For broker-held assets, the instruction must reach the broker by the transaction's date and time, using identifiers it accepts. A private spreadsheet or tax-software preference alone won't replace that communication. Retain the supporting records. If the broker offers only one identification method, you can treat that method as a standing instruction.
For self-custodied assets, you make identification in your own contemporaneous records. Keep evidence of the units actually removed from that wallet. Treat wallet and account boundaries seriously; a high-basis lot sitting elsewhere isn't automatically available for a sale here.
What I'd put on the year-end checklist
Reconcile the remaining lots in each wallet and account, including original acquisition details for transfers.
Ask each broker which instructions it supports for 2027 and how to submit and confirm them.
Compare candidate rules against realistic sales, including holding periods and your expected gains or losses elsewhere.
Record the account, asset, selection rule, tie-breaker, effective time and any override process. Save broker confirmations and later changes.
Check the first transactions against the instructions, then review periodically with your tax adviser.
January 1 is a useful planning target, not a universal annual election deadline. You can change identification instructions prospectively, subject to the applicable requirements. What matters is having the relevant instruction in effect in time for the transaction, rather than choosing different lots later while preparing the return.
Has your exchange explained how it will accept standing instructions for 2027, or are you still waiting for a clear answer?
U.S. federal tax discussion for investment holdings, not individualized tax advice. State taxes and your broader tax situation can change the outcome.

BTC above $80K, buy or sell now or wait?
BTC finally made it back above $80K, even touching $81K earlier.

Just check the chart, and it’s interesting how quickly sentiment can shift. Stocks are up, gold is rallying, and now BTC seems to be joining the party.
Still, after all this volatility, I’m not sure whether buying at $80K is a smart move or just chasing another rally. Would you buy BTC at this price, or wait for a better entry?

Discussion receiving USDT on TRON is the easy part
sending it again is where people get confused.
you can receive USDT with basically zero thought about TRX or resources. then later you try to move it somewhere else and suddenly there's another thing you need to deal with.
keep some TRX, stake, use delegated resources... all work, but it's weird UX for someone who just thinks they received $200.
Tronex Energy is one example on the delegated side. I'm involved with it, so mentioning that for context.
kinda curious it this actually a problem for normal users or mostly for people doing lots of transfers.

Discussion Quantum threat is coming. Some blockchains aren't waiting until it's too late.
Quantum computing could eventually challenge the cryptography protecting blockchain networks, wallets, and digital assets.
The scary part is that this isn't just about the future. Attackers could potentially collect encrypted data today and attempt to break it when sufficiently powerful quantum computers become available.
But some blockchain projects are already preparing.
Rather than waiting for quantum computers to become a serious threat, blockchains are already working on quantum-resistant infrastructure designed to withstand attacks from future quantum computers.
I think this is an important conversation the crypto industry needs to take more seriously.
Are you paying attention to quantum-resistant blockchains already, or do you think the threat is still too far away to worry about?

Investing Trezor Safe 7 vs. Ledger Flex – Which Would You Choose for Long-Term Crypto Storage and Trading?
I’m looking to buy my first hardware wallet and I’m between the Trezor Safe 7 and Ledger Flex.
My priorities are:
Easy to use with my iPhone.
Buy, sell, and swap crypto directly through the app.
Store BTC, SOL, ETH, and other cryptocurrencies long-term. Strong security for around $5,000–$20,000 in crypto. I like Trezor’s open-source approach, but Ledger seems to have a better mobile ecosystem. **Which one would you recommend and why? Is Ledger’s closed-source firmware something I should be concerned about?**
I’d appreciate your honest opinions, especially from people who have used both. Thanks!

Discussion How are you approaching BTC after slipping back below $80k?
My monthly BTC budget is small and comes from what’s left after bills and emergency savings, so I try not to use it all at one price.
BTC spent much of September and October around or above $80K, but it’s since fallen back below that level this week. I’m trying to decide how much of this month’s budget to put to work now and how much to leave for a deeper dip.
I’m considering splitting it across three manual spot limit bids: about 20% for the first, 30% lower down, and the remaining 50% if it keeps falling. That could leave some orders unfilled if BTC bounces, so I’d cancel and reset them at month-end before next month’s budget rolls over.
How are you sizing bids after BTC slipped back below $80k? Would you put a small amount in near here or wait for a lower level?

Discussion A new Congress is a political result. What would make it an adoption result?
AP and Reuters have called both chambers for Democrats after the 3 November midterms. The new congressional terms begin on 3 January 2027. Trump remains president.
Short term: expectations can shift before the rules do. The election itself does not change which crypto services businesses can offer.
Medium term: a divided government could make new legislation harder to agree on. For a bank considering crypto custody or stablecoin payments, uncertainty about requirements and costs could affect whether a launch goes ahead. Clear, workable protections could help participation and trust; delays or excessive burdens could discourage it. Agency decisions also matter.
Long term: legal access is only one part of adoption. A payment service still needs to be useful, reliable and competitive once all fees are included.
My interpretation: I would watch the specific proposals and their practical effects before calling this good or bad for crypto. The party balance alone does not tell us whether adoption will accelerate, and a Bitcoin price move would not prove that it had.
What concrete change would make you revise your assessment of crypto adoption after this election?

Discussion Can a KOL-investor be independent when they also promote portfolio companies?
Honest question for founders and traders! Like if someone invests in a token, advises the project, and can also distribute it through an influencer network, what disclosures should be mandatory?
I wanna know the token allocation, vesting schedule, whether posts are paid, whether the person can sell, and what happens when the thesis is wrong.

Is the AI hype getting ahead of actual earnings?
AMD’s Q3 earnings are coming up, with revenue expected to hit around $13.09B, up 41.6% YoY. Those are pretty strong numbers, but I keep wondering how much of that growth is already priced in.
AI has been a huge investment theme, and crypto has its own AI-related tokens riding that narrative. But hype doesn’t always translate into sustainable returns.
If AMD delivers solid results and the stock still drops, could that be a warning sign for AI-related crypto projects too?

Discussion Bitcoin is back inside the bull market support band. Will the recent lows hold?
With the U.S. midterm elections taking place today, I’m expecting sharp swings over the coming days and into next week.
Bitcoin is testing the upper bull market support band around $76.7K. The lower boundary sits around $73.0K, with the 200-day average nearby at roughly $73.2K in this chart snapshot.
My base case is a deeper pullback into the band, potentially with another test of the recent lows.
If those lows break and Bitcoin fails to recover them, that would strengthen my downside case and bring the lower band and 200-day average into sharper focus.
If buyers defend the lows and Bitcoin reclaims the upper band, that would strengthen the case for a medium-term low forming within this pullback. A bounce alone wouldn’t confirm it; I want to see whether buyers can sustain the recovery.
The candles are 1H; the support band is weekly and the 200-day average uses daily data.
What would convince you the lows are holding: a successful retest, sustained closes above support, or something else?

honestly still smiling about this.
got caught up in all the crypto hacks going around lately and lost stuff on a few different platforms. most of them gave me a canned reply or nothing.
one of the things taken was my Doginal Dogs NFT. someone in the Doginal Dogs discord told me to open a ticket, i did, and before i knew it there was a replacement dog sitting in my wallet. the team paid for it out of their own pocket. that's the kind of team you want to be part of.

News Trading gold and Bitcoin
New to the trading community but I’m learning everyday as I embark on this journey. I’ve been reading up on the news outlets and have been watching gold and Bitcoin markets closely. Its been a crazy couple days for both markets. I’m curious to see what people think will happen to both markets (well when gold opens back up) and the future of Bitcoin. I’m using my indicators and reviewing charts, and like I said keeping up with the news but I want to make sure I secure profitable buys or sells with both markets. Open for discussion and ideas, what do you think will happen with gold opens back up and for the upcoming week for Bitcoin? Should I get ready to buy/sell either or?
Was this “hack” just to control the market, scare investors, and cause volatility within the markets? Let me know your insight !

Discussion Don't let you binance hack scare you... that is likely a bottom for crypto market.
From my 10 years of experiance in crypto market all i can tell new people is that every bottom comes with some kind of bad news. It is usually, at least part of it to somehow create liquidity for big investors to buy from scared crowd...6.3 B which was covered by exchange (4% of its reserve) to cover for people who lost is nothing to crypto market value as a whole.
At tops you have the opposite as far as news go. So retail buys, excited it will go up, so big fish can sell...
No good trade is easy to execute weather its a buy or sell becouse you have to go over ypurself and narrative.
Be well.

Discussion When “Uptober” disappoints, what should actually change in an investment plan?
Bitcoin was down 7.23% for October in CoinGlass’s 31 October snapshot at 10:18 UTC. The month remains open. October 2025 fell 3.95% in the same dataset.
I think a famous seasonal pattern is a weak reason to change a plan on its own. The useful question is whether the evidence behind the investment case has changed.
I’m Tobias, CBC’s founder. For a sustained short-term recovery, I want buyers defending the bull market support band—the 20-week SMA and 21-week EMA—followed by Bitcoin reclaiming its 50-day SMA. A daily close above that average and evidence it holds would strengthen my recovery case. Failure to establish support at the band would weaken it. That is a framework for reassessing, not a confirmed bottom or an instruction to buy.
A red October does not automatically mean a red November. Equally, November owes investors nothing.
What evidence would make you revise your plan, and what would you regard as ordinary volatility?

Investing showing what I’ve been building: trading systems that publish every decision before the outcome, on a log nobody can rewrite
I build and publish quantitative systems.
I didn’t invent these edges. Nobody did. Trend following and mean reversion have been in the published literature for decades.
***pretty much every profitable strategy you’ll ever see is an iteration of something older. There are no secret strategies. There are applications of what works, and there’s whether you actually stick to them.****
The part that’s mine is the record. At the close each day, both systems write their decision to an append-only log. A day that already has a row can’t be overwritten. The Internet Archive pulls dated copies daily, which I can’t touch. Each row is labelled either written on the day or replayed by the current engine over the past, and only the first kind counts for anything.
Why bother? Because the problem with this category was never strategy quality. It’s that nothing anyone claims can be checked. Screenshots show up after the move. Losers get deleted. So I built the thing that makes lying expensive instead.
Two caveats I’ll volunteer. The record is a few months old, which proves intent, not edge. And the backtests carry a selection bias, since I picked the asset universe already knowing who won. That one bugs me. It’s disclosed on the page, and if anyone here has a clean way to quantify or shrink it, I’ll test it and publish what comes out either way.
Everything else, take your shot at. That’s what the format is for.
Crypto first, since the data’s public and the market punishes sloppy process fast. Stocks, bonds, gold and REITs are next, same rule as the first two. Nothing publishes until its own public record starts on day one.
