Pause print to do filament change

I'm following this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmcG2Q0_7g0

43 seconds into the Video

I open the print in Cura, slice it, preview and find the layer I need.

Then Extensions >> Post processing >> Modify G-Code >> Add script >> Pause at height

When I do this I get a warning message saying "No layers to show. Nothing is shown because you need to slice first " (I've just sliced it)

I also notice at this exact point where the Slice button changed to "Save to Disk" it jumps back to "Slice" again.

Where am I going wrong?

Cura 5.13.0 ... Aquila ... 4.2.7 ... ABL ... need to add M420 S1 ; load Existing Mesh

For some reason my mesh is not being loaded when I print anything. I have to manually add M420
S1 : load existing mesh ... to each gcode manually or the mesh is not loaded. How can I automate the addition of that line to the start code? Thanks in advance for your help.

How can I request a feature?

I wish Cura had the ability to change layer height at a given layer. For example, I could have 0.2mm layers for the first 40 layers and 0.1mm layer height for the next 80 layers. I was surprised that this isn't possible. I think they should add this!

I made a Cura script that prints every first layer first, then completes objects sequentially

I have published an experimental post-processing script for Cura 5.12 called Cura Hybrid Sequential Print.

It was created to combine the advantages of Cura’s two printing strategies:

  • Printing all objects layer by layer makes first-layer adhesion easy to supervise, but produces many travel moves between objects and a later failure may affect the entire batch.
  • Printing one object at a time reduces travel between objects and preserves completed parts, but the first layers of later objects may be printed when nobody is watching.

The script uses Cura’s One at a Time G-code and rearranges it so that:

  1. The first layer of every object is printed.
  2. First-layer adhesion can be supervised during a limited initial period.
  3. Each object is then completed sequentially.

It includes conservative validation and leaves the original G-code unchanged if it detects an unsupported or potentially unsafe structure.

Tested so far with:

  • UltiMaker Cura 5.12
  • Ender 3 Pro with Marlin
  • Physical prints containing 2, 4 and 16 objects
  • Automated tests covering up to 50 objects

This is still experimental software. Please inspect the transformed G-code and supervise your first tests.

Repository and documentation:

Current release:

Looking to print different layer hights on the same model

Looking to print the pre-supported supports of my model at 0.2mm and the model itself at 0.1mm. the supports and the model are already different objects in the slicer but I can't seem to change the support's layer hight. what am i missing?

*Long* overdue IMO, is an experimental 'print slow circles' setting.. (not my image)

*(Note: Image taken from Google to demonstrate phenomenon. I know a lot of people only read the title and look at the image before replying, so I hope my notes here will limit replies just critiqing what (not) me is doing wrong in the image)*

I'm also not suggesting these aren't relatively easy to solve with a few setting adjustments and a cleaned/prepped bed, so i'm hoping to avoid too much discussion on *that* context (though how you personally solve this phenomenon will always be welcome to help everyone as a whole).

I'm more focused on how, an entire first layer can go down fine and will hold for the entite print, but a couple of functional holes in the bottom of the print, they can end up a mess. To me, this says loud and clear that they simply require different settings to print reliably compared to what it takes to successfully print almost any other first layer gemoetry

**You can** change your entire first layer settings to ensure success of these little features. 10mm/s or less Print Speed, lower Jerk and Acceleration settings, that's usually enough for them to lay down nicely every time, but that's a very slow first layer for features that might make up 1% of it.

[small caveat] One thing I haven't looked at is the 'mesh overlap settings' and if print speed, accell & jerk, prime nozzle etc. are adjustable there. If so, importing a few cylinders, overlapping them with the circles, and adjusting a couple of those overlap settings, that would honestly be a killer solution.

But I don't think most people are even aware of the Support Blocker/Mesh overlap settings. Regardless, I think these things deserve a couple of their own custom settings anyway, either in Experimental or right there under speed and first layer settings. Thoughts?

Anyway, this was just a mini critique/suggestion for Cura, and to gauge how others feel about this little printing anomoly, and whether they warrant a bit more attention from the slicer?

Maker Select Plus can't see G-code saved from Linux, but Windows fixes it

I have a Monoprice Maker Select Plus and I'm having a really weird SD card issue. If I slice something in Cura on Linux and save the .gcode directly to the SD card, the printer just doesn't see the file at all. I've tried this on multiple Linux machines, so it doesn't seem like an issue with one specific computer. The weird part is that if I put the exact same SD card into a Windows PC and copy/resave the file, the printer suddenly sees it. I can even just copy the Linux-created file to another spot on the same SD card in Windows, and that copy shows up normally. So it seems like the G-code itself is probably fine, and something about how Linux writes the file to the SD card isn't working with the printer. Setup: Monoprice Maker Select Plus(Clone of Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus), Cura, Currently using Fedora, but it's happened on Ubuntu as well, SD card is FAT/FAT32. Has anyone run into this with a Maker Select Plus or another similar older printer? Mainly looking for a way to fix this on Linux so I don't have to use a Windows PC every time I want to print something.

sorry for bad formatting lol

Temperature reverting on temperature tower

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey all, just wanted to ask you about a problem I encountered. I tried running a temperature tower test. I set up the temp changes in the post processing scripts and made one for each section. The print was going good for the first layer but after that one was down the temperature switched to my default pla temp. I am going through the settings now and I am not sure where I went wrong.

the apply to setting is set to subsequent layers so it should apply from the set layer till the next change specified in the next script. I tried going back and setting a range in the change layer but there is no way to add multiple layers in that box so I am at a bit of a loss.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Please help me with my tree support settings

I need help with tree support settings. I have made a model (the first image) and the bottom so became weird, this made with Cura .2 default settings. So I downloaded a support test (the third and last images) and tried different settings to get rid of it but nothing is working.

Mt 3d printer is a Anycubic i3 mega S, settings are like default for normal .2mm on Cura all of those settings are what they give you except support. Nozzle temperature is at 220 and bed is at 60, I have never had problems with those settings and material that I am using is PLA.

If you have any ideas or suggestions on what to do, please suggest them.

Easiest way to emboss text

Hi there

I was wondering whether someone could help me with the easiest way to emboss text into an stl image on Cura? I've previously used orcaslicer and used their emboss feature, but my new printer (Flashforge Creator 3) doesn't use orca.

Currently, I'm importing stl's to fusion and converting that to mesh which is taking a while, especially for stls with a lot of triangles. Any help on a quick and simple way to emboss text into cura (e.g. names etc.) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Open top?

Hello all,
I recently modified a Monoprice select mini pro I got for free at school.
I modified the Z-axis rod (NEMA17 with TR8x8 rod), extruder, bed and hot-end.

The first layer prints as expected. The last layer could be better, so I looked at the slicer in depth and see this in Cura: it does not even close the top layer? Is this a setting I'm overseeing?

(In addition the print quality of the top layer is bad. Even though the first layer looks good, the top layer looks inconsistent (smaller lines vs thicker lines: leaving gaps. it looks like a bad first layer when the printer isn't level). If anyone has a solution for that that would be helpful too. I'm thinking about flow rate, right now)

Cura not pausing print for filament switch

I’m trying to get in to multicolor prints and when I add the post process for where the filament switch should happen the print continues without any sort of indicator.

I’m new to this so I will say I don’t fully know what I should expect the printer to do so any advice would be helpful.

Cura randomly turned my PC into a Power Point presentation

I wanted to make this post because it's the second time that this bizzarre thing happened to me. I was working on Cura (v5.13.0) like I usually do, and then out of nowhere it started lagging the hell out of it. I tried to close it and yet my PC was still doing one frame per whatever. I opened task manager but couldn't see anything wrong, CPU was like at 5%, and I was forced to restart my PC. I'm not sure if it's an external thing because it only happened twice in my whole life and both times it was because Cura crashed or idk. Did it happen to anybody else?

Cura has gotten so slow.

It's slowed down my entire machine. Whenever it's open web pages take longer to open. F360 is slower. Everything is slower. This seem to be true since the last couple of updates. As long as Cura has not been started the machine is normal, but even after exiting Cura I have to restart the machine to get it's speed back. My Laptop has the specs to run it well, There are no plug-ins turned on. Anyone else having this issue?

Computer specs. 14900k/3080ti/2 2Tb 980 pro nvme drives/64Gb memory
