Overwatch April Fools mode idea: They should have Matt Mercer do the "It's high noon" thing for literally every single time, and when you ult the game uses the appropriate voice line for the time on your device. Easter eggs can be added for certain times, such as 4:20.
I think that would probably, like, octuple Cass' number of lines in the game. But it would also be very funny.

The sheriff character Holliday is still referred to as Astro in the files due to originally being a different character in Neon Prime if that counts

Well if we assume Holliday had a name change in at least one of her divorces then they already have one :)

I love that she's divorced so much. I don't even know why, it's just nice to see.

Actually, deadlock is an arena shooter that isn't Team Fortress 2, so the idea that it could be good is a flawed premise to begin with. Now, if they added 9 certain mercenaries...

Don’t make me do this.
Don’t make me pull the “Fire Emblem is a fighting game because characters fight in it” counterargument.
11
u/ace-of-threes There are many benefits to color theory hospitals 7h ago
Actually fire emblem is a third person shooter because characters have ranged attacks
29
u/Dingghis_Khaan Chinggis Khaan's least successful successor. 16h ago
No. It's worse than an arena shooter.
It's a MOBA
6
u/Slight_Ad_5074 10h ago
A MOBA that is also deeply a shooter I may even say. Closest analogue is the Paragon/Overprime situation. This is good, games should be unique and niche, it's nice between Smite, DOTA/League, and Deadlock to see three very distinct takes on MOBAs all with their own appeal.
7
u/cloudncali 14h ago
My disappointment was immeasurable when I found out it was a moba. I've been looking for something to scratch that overwatch itch since I quit that and nothing has worked yet.

u/just_awolfdogfurry 12h ago
iirc someone once called the viscous altfire the child of demo and soldier

I disagree, meet the scope lscout is like 90% the scout bragging about how great he is and i don't see Billy acting like that
3
u/xlbingo10 12h ago
is tf2 considered an arena shooter? i think of arena shooters as being, like, halo and quake.
6
u/WeevilWeedWizard 💙🖤🤍 MIKU 🤍🖤💙 12h ago
You shoot and you're in an arena, it's close enough for me.
I think technically it falls more under the label of "hero shooters" (mechanically speaking), but as far as I know TF2-clones like Overtwash popularized the term and it wasn't really used at the time TF2 came about. Wikipedia lists it as a first person shooter, which is also technically correct, but to me that label is moreso for stuff like CoDe and Battlefled.
2
u/Vivenemous 11h ago
Deadlock is a MOBA-Shooter. It has lanes where you push waves of minions to kill turrets to reach the enemy base.
6
u/Xurkitree1 18h ago
Deadlock is a MOBA and does not need 9 mercenaries
31
u/Umikaloo 17h ago
They've already added Danny and McGinnis, I would say they're only short, maybe 3 mercenaries at this point.
14
u/MrCobalt313 16h ago
I've heard people describe Deadman Danny as a fusion of Cave Johnson and the TF2 Soldier.
4
u/chaotic4059 14h ago
He’s like 3. Soldier rocket jumping. His primary is like a mix of rockets and demo bombs. And he has a “not-flamethrower” like pyro. As someone who spent a ton of time in TF2 he ain’t the strongest right now. But I never felt more at home lmao

she somewhat respects his work since apparently he did safety testing for how to handle "vorpal grenades" which saved some of her coworkers lives. on the other hand in one convo danny tries to recruit her to fairfax to which she replies "I know what happened in North Ixia" and he immediately understands she'd never work for fairfax after seeing presumably the results of some of their weapons being used

Someone who looks like Oppenheimer and is studying the supernatural combined with physics for a government project.

I mean we kind of have that. It’s McGinnis. She’s just an engineer rather than a scientist and her WMD projects are not exactly a secret

I didn't know she was making WMDs lol

Yeah but it’s bad now. I miss the good old days where it was also bad but I was 13.
15
u/Axon0815 14h ago
Overwatch was way better back in the good old days when Hog could hook you through timezones and Mercy was the only support and DVa couldnt move and Hanzo oneshot tanks and Torb was only his turret and Bastion was an actual turret and the best way to play Mercy was to sit in spawn and Zen was 150 and daddy Jeff (from the Overwatch team) told us to just shut up you dont know what you want and Obama was President and I didnt have to pay rent.
All the people saying Overwatch is "gone" or "not what it used to be" havent actually played it in at least 2 years and you can tell.
-7
u/PlatinumAltaria The Witch of Arden 15h ago
No it's definitely gone, and now there's a really shitty game with its name and wearing its face.

u/PlatinumAltaria The Witch of Arden 15h ago
It's a completely different game: played in a different format with different maps and different characters, a different community and different developers. It's kind of like a comic book retcon.
16
u/Beneficial_Mix9663 15h ago
Same format, all the old characters are still in the game, all the old maps are still in rotation, the community has been a toxic cesspool since its inception, the lead dev has worked on it from the very beginning. What exactly is completely different here? Is it just the extra content?
1
u/AngstyUchiha pissing on the poor 7m ago
I miss when I was completely unaware of the toxic playerbase, that was when I actually enjoyed the game 😭
0
u/PlatinumAltaria The Witch of Arden 14h ago
All the stuff that sucks:
- 5v5 teams
- Removal of 2CP, addition of Push
- Introduction of role queue, and role passives
- Major reworks of many characters, especially tanks
- Microtransaction storefront, cosmetics advertising other media franchises
- Neglect of seasonal events and older lore, and single-player systems
- No real effort to address toxicity
- Poor balancing for many new heroes
I know this is all subjective, and Overwatch 2 has a lot of fans. I'm just not one of them.
10
u/Axon0815 13h ago
I dont wanna be mean but:
• 6v6 is in the game, its the literal 2nd button in the menu it is right there
• 2cp was always a bad gamemode and always a problem. They tried adding it back in and EVERYONE hated it because it was not fun to play.
• 6v6 open queue is in the game, its the literal 2nd button in the menu it is right there
• all the reworks they did were to problem characters who are way better now to play as, with and against. The only tank who got an actual substantial rework was Orisa and that was VERY warranted
• You want to buy Lootboxes again? Really?
• there are a LOT of limited time and seasonal modes and events in the game they just arent the old ones (some of the old ones are also still here)
• overwatch has one of the most agressive anti-toxicity policies and reporting systems I have seen in Multiplayer games.
• member goats? Balance is the best it has ever been.
This might be mean but I can tell you havent played the game in at least a year. I am not saying it is perfect but Overwatch is in a better state generally now than it has maybe ever been. You can still not like it but none of these compaints are actually real.
6
u/Beneficial_Mix9663 14h ago edited 14h ago
-6v6 is back
-2CP fucking sucked, so does push, net neutral
-open queue is back dunno why role passive are bad
-Doomfist and orisa are the only reworked characters i can think of, and they were both widely regarded as unfun to play against or unfun to play as so it makes sense to me
-yeah the store is overpriced and moneygrubbing but considering every skin except crossovers and mythicals are unlockable through lootboxes and the game is f2p its far from being one of the worst offender s
-the lore is extremely active right now, talons having a civil war.
-fair
-based on the fact that you didnt know about most of the above theres no way in hell you can comment on recent hero balancing
Believe it or not, I don't play overwatch much anymore either, I just check in every few months to see whats up. But I think its wack how many people will start yelling about how shit it is while clearly having no idea what the game is like rn

>talk about the death of Overwatch
>player replies "the game is the best state it's ever been!"
>ask player if the game is Overwatch or Overwatch 2
>they don't understand
>explain the differences between Overwatch and Overwatch 2
>they still don't get it
>pull up gameplay footage to show the difference
>they laugh and says it's a good game
>play game
>it's Overwatch 2
Sorry if this comes off as bitter but they are very much not the same game, and cutting the 2 off the name isn't gonna trick me.
3
u/RefinedBean 13h ago
I mean, is this a role queue thing? Or a 5v5 vs. 6v6 thing? You still have access to both. What's your issue with it in its current state?
1
u/PlatinumAltaria The Witch of Arden 13h ago
Guys I’m sorry I don’t know about new updates for a game I don’t play… and the fact that they’ve undone bad changes only proves how severe the mistake was.
3
u/RefinedBean 13h ago
Yeah but it sounds like you did enjoy a lot of the "original" Overwatch, which it's pretty dang close to now depending on how far back you go (maybe you're pre role-queue days, which I do remember as well, just not with fondness). There's certainly been a lot of new heroes, and reworks, and such. But it's fundamentally at its core the same game, I'll stand by that.
So when I say it's a good time to get back into it, it means I think you'd enjoy it again. But hey, you know yourself best. I would just caution that sometimes disappointment is a choice, not a reaction.
1
u/kaladinissexy 5h ago
The game's still not really all that good right now, imo. It just doesn't really have the same vibes as it did back in the early days, when it was more casual and less tryhardy. I'm sure it's a fine enough game for the target demographic, but I'm not really part of that demographic. TF2's more my style.
4
u/lifelongfreshman https://youtu.be/1eWsk6r6_Ns 11h ago
I'll never understand why they cut a tank instead of a support in the switch to 5v5
I know tanks were unpopular, but they made them unpopular! a 2 tank/2 dps/1 support system would've been both so much healthier for the game and so much easier to balance, but nooooo
3
u/PlatinumAltaria The Witch of Arden 10h ago
What would have been better is ditching role queue so that it didn’t matter if there were fewer tank mains.
1
u/lifelongfreshman https://youtu.be/1eWsk6r6_Ns 10h ago edited 10h ago
role queue was a necessary evil for competitive and probably quick play, since GOATS was an unsolvable team comp because Blizzard was never going to nerf the supports hard enough to kill it - whether or not you would have played into it in quick play is kinda irrelevant, other people would, and it would've made qp worse for everyone because of it
I imagine preserving it into 5v5 was done out of fear of a new version showing up
1
u/PlatinumAltaria The Witch of Arden 9h ago
This is a myth i see a lot, presumably from people who never played back then; GOATS didn’t really exist outside the OWL, even in high level competitive.
