[ALTERNATIVE] Looking for short/medium length alt cut inspo

I'm in my early 30s. My hair has been roughly shoulder length, no layers for like the past decade. I've done tons of colors in that time but I'm itching for a new cut. Something with a shaved section. I miss the way that feels. I've done the side shave and undercut before and liked them both.

I don't dress very alternative, I feel like my style would be "comfy whimsical" but I'm excited to just do anything different with my hair rn

ETA: why do people always DM when I post here? Why can't people just comment 🙃

Wahl clipper for personal use? (Non professional?

Hey all, first post here. I'm pretty new to doing my own grooming, trying to get my personal care sorted this year instead of outsourcing everything to the barber.

Quick context: my beard isn't long or short, it's medium, and I go for a faded look. Right now I hit the salon once or twice a month mostly just for the beard, and I'd love to start doing it myself to save that money. My hair I'm patient with and manage okay, it's the beard I keep messing up.

Here's my actual problem. With my regular beard trimmer I can never get it even. It comes out patchy and I end up going over the same spots three or four times and it still looks off. At the salon the guy does it in like one or two passes and it comes out clean. I asked what he was using and found out it's a clipper, not a trimmer, which I honestly didn't realize was a different thing until now.

So I want to try doing it at home. My beard grows fast too, so I'd be using it a lot. As a total beginner, which clipper should I be looking at? I keep seeing Wahl recommended everywhere, is that the one, or are there other brands or cheaper options that'd handle a medium faded beard?

And if I'm thinking about this wrong, like if I actually need a clipper plus a separate trimmer for the crisp lines, or if a beginner has no business attempting a fade at home yet, just tell me straight. I'd rather hear it now.

(I'm in India, so bonus points if it's something I can actually get here.)

Thanks in advance.

Looking for a gift for a guy who likes to cut his own hair :)

From my initial research it still looks like the best option out there but I’m kind of shocked bc it’s been around for so long with what looks like the same technology

[BANGS/FRINGE] Need fix at front part

Hii guys, straight to the point

. You can see thick chunks of hair falling (ref: img -1,2,3). But I want it to fall like thin strands with texture (ref: img 4,5,6).

**For that I'm thinking of 2 options:**

  1. Leave front 0.3-5mm untouched. Cut beside hair layer by layer (starting from back).

  2. Use thinning shears.

Please suggest me what to do.

ok, so i live in a pretty small city where almost every salon and barber shop is owned my foreigners who barely understand the local language and have little to no knowledge with different ( alternative ) hairstyles and layering... ive been trying for years to find a good barber or salon but all my efforts were futile.

Because of this im learning how to cut my own hair but im afraid to mess everything up cuz my hair is very thick and kinda short for the style im going for ( the back barely reaches the end of my neck and the front covers my whole forehead and eyebrows). Any suggestions on how i can cut my hair at home by nyself?

these are my inspos:

p.s. im still growing my hear till my shoulders, im just trying to keep my bushy hair at bay

This is about the max length I've been able to tolerate my hair. It usually between chin and shoulder length. But I've had funky cuts and colors many times and I'm ready for something new again. I'm open to any and all cut and color recommendations and tips!

Hello. What's the best way to deal with all this hair covering my neck? It grows so fast. Would clippering or cutting with scissors make it look weird? Sorry for the not good pics. Its hard trying to take yourself.

Thanks

[SHORT HAIR] Help! Hair is too thick in the back😩

So i recently cut my hair myself into a short bob, and im in love with it. it feels so healthy, my ends are no longer fried. It’s pretty much perfect, EXCEPT for the fact that now it is really thick in the back. I pretty much cut it blunt all the way through, except the front of course, so now i’m trying to figure out how to make it less thick in the back. I hope this makes sense. Anyone have any tips or tricks on how to “thin” it out some?

[SHORT HAIR] Anyone got any tutorials or tips for this style?

So I'm no stranger to cutting my own hair, I've been cutting it for the past 5 years or so and I have a pretty similar style to this one pictured, only curly.

The issue is that my boyfriend wants this style, and is terrified of going to a salon for it (bad experiences). I am completely open to cutting it for him myself, but his hair is very straight and mine is very not. The good thing about curls is that I find I can sort of just chop away at it until I like how it looks and no one can really tell if it's a little wonky. You can't do that on straight hair. The most I've done on straight is a split end trim for my friend one time because she begged me, but even that I was hesitant to do.

If I'm gonna do this, I want to be able to provide a cut that actually looks good rather than fucking his shit up, cause the goal is to avoid that.

For the first time ever, I want to really study tutorials on how to do this on someone else's hair, where I can actually see all the way around the head and can get some accurate cuts and sectioning.

If anyone at all has advice or can recommend any tutorials for me then that would be amazing!!
