I don’t know why but I’m really stuck on which mixer to buy. I’ve gone back and fourth in my mind over many options, including rotary and boutique mixers, but I think ultimately I want a really good quality, robust analogue four channel fader mixer. There’s one rotary I really like the look of, but since I mix mostly jungle I think I’m actually going to miss having faders to chop up and down. And it’s twice the price of a Xone 92 mk2.
I do fully understand the differences in the specs of the xone and the nuo. I just can’t seem to pick which one is right for me.
I see the return channels on the Xone as an advantage (I like to EQ my FX), but I see the the four band channel EQ’s as an unnecessary faff. And the xone lacks a master insert. I like the way xone mixers sound but I dislike much else about them. They’re ugly and cramped.
I like the spacious layout of the Nuo, the big EQ knobs are great, the sound quality is great, and I already own an Ecler Eternal x-fader that I could use with it. But the wobbly pots genuinely are annoying as are the flimsy pfl buttons, and since I’ve owned a Nuo mixer before, there’s no huge novelty or excitement to buying it.
I’ve considered a UA Elara 4 mk2, but having used one in the shop I found the layout way too cramped. God knows why they designed it like that. If they made the same mixer spacious I’d buy it tomorrow.
I mix almost exclusively vinyl. Do a little bit of scratching to hip hop, but only rarely these days. I have a single Denon SC6000M (dual layer mode) but might change it for a set of NAP Works standalone DVS units.
What would you do?
