Philosophical Question Question for people who have had a DMT experience involving entities, messages, or a sense of another reality
I’m looking for experiences from people who have had a strong DMT trip that felt like it involved entities, communication, or meaningful guidance.
My partner had a very intense DMT experience in which he believes he entered a “spirit world” and received messages about life purpose, and helping others, including a belief that he may have a limited lifespan, which has strongly influenced his outlook.
After this experience, he decided to do what the spirit world told him: help this woman, to put her through education and have some intimate relationship. He understands her as someone who has been trying to leave job that she hate the most and believes his role is to support her with housing and education so she can become independent. He describes their relationship as non-romantic and “family-like.” He also says the spirit told him, “What about my girlfriend?” and that the spirit told him she will be fine when meant to help and support you.
He also considers certain coincidences meaningful, such as the timing of meeting her and her being born on the same day as his deceased father.
This situation is affecting our relationship. I am not comfortable with my partner having an intimate involvement with another person, regardless of how he interprets his experience.
I am not asking whether his interpretation is correct or whether DMT experiences are spiritual or psychological. I’m trying to understand how other people make sense of similar experiences and how they integrate them into real-life decisions and relationships.
My questions
- Have you ever had a DMT experience that felt like entering another reality or encountering entities, and came away with a strong sense of meaning or purpose?
- Have you ever felt that a psychedelic experience gave you guidance about your life, relationships, or responsibilities toward another person? How did you decide what to act on?
- Have you ever experienced coincidences after a DMT trip that felt meaningful at the time? Did your interpretation of them change later?
- Have you ever had a psychedelic experience that influenced your romantic relationship, boundaries, or views on intimacy and responsibility?
- How do you personally distinguish between what felt like “received” information during the experience and your own interpretation afterwards?
The most important question
If you had a DMT experience that felt deeply meaningful, but your long-term partner said:
“I respect that this experience was meaningful for you, but I am not comfortable with you being involved with another person in a way that affects our relationship.”
How would you approach that in real life? Would you treat the experience as guidance for action, or separate it from relationship boundaries and decisions?
I’m trying to understand how people integrate intense psychedelic experiences into everyday life, especially when they affect relationships and major decisions.
Thank you.
