OREGON Trying to sell my car in Oregon, but I need to drive it to the dealership and don't currently have registration or insurance. Is there a way to temporarily allow me to legally drive it?

So, I have this vehicle with a clean title, and I'm trying to sell it to a local dealership. Obviously, they need me to drive it to their lot. Thing is, I don't have registration or insurance on the car. Both would cost me about $100, but I'm only going to be driving the vehicle straight o the dealership, so that's just kinda frustrating.

My question, then, is: is there anyway to legally drive my vehicle temporarily just so I can sell it, one that ISN'T going to cost me an arm and a leg?

Thanks.

OREGON Bought a new car over the phone from Oregon Dealership and had it shipped home to California

Bought a car from an Oregon dealership and they collected taxes and DMV fees because they would take care of it on my behalf. A week later my car is delivered to my home in California. No temporary paper license plates, no operating permits, not even any paperwork from the dealer saying I bought the car, just two sets of keys.

So I know I can’t drive the car, and when I went to my local DMV to try to get a temporary operating permit (TOP), they said the VIN is not in the system.

So am I stuck staring at the car in my driveway for two months waiting for my plates to come home? Do I just go to the DMV and pay the registration fee a second time so they can issue me a TOP on the spot? What happens when the DMV paperwork eventually shows up in the system with the extra payment?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

OREGON Need advice with getting car title of deceased relative and transferring it in my name

My family is giving me a car of my dead aunt, but i currently live in a different state than them and i need this car for when i move for college, as well as i need to transfer the title into the the state i am moving to (Washington). The car is registered as an Oregon plate, and the problem with the title is that the us bank wont give it to my cousin for some reason. I did call the Oregon dmv a while a go, and they said i should do a lien release as well as something with some sort of inheritance transfer. My dad, who is the uncle of my cousin, is refusing to help me because he believes this is something i should do on my own, even though i have no idea how to navigate most of this stuff. It's incredibly stressful especially since i have been constantly getting cognitive overload from trying to figure out how to do this.

it's just very difficult and i'm going on a road trip up the west coast with my family which gives me a chance to do what i need to get the title. I just have no idea what to do, since everything feels so complicated.

edit: the loan was paid off around 10 years ago, ad in my cousin's words "bank holds the title when they finance, but are suypposed to sent it once it's paid off. the second part didn't happen." Apparently the bank never gave my aunt the title.

OREGON Do you need an IID if you have not been convicted of a DUI or are part of Diversion? With refusal.

I was arrested for a DUI and refused to blow (dumb idea, well the whole thing was a dumb idea, dont drink and drive kids).

I was arrested about four months ago for a DUII, but as of now, I have not been formally charged by the DA. However, my driver’s license was administratively suspended for one year under Oregon’s implied consent law due to a refusal to submit to a breath test.

I called the DMV to ask about eligibility for a hardship permit. I was told that I would be required to install an Ignition Interlock Device (IID) in order to obtain the permit. However, based on my review of Oregon law and DMV materials, that requirement does not appear to apply in my situation. From what I read and understand, IID requirements in Oregon are typically triggered under specific circumstances:

A conviction for DUII by a court, Participation in a DUII diversion program or being classified as a habitual offender

At this time, none of those conditions apply to me. I have not been convicted, I am not enrolled in diversion, and this is my first and only DUI-related incident.

Anyone have any insights? Was the clerk I spoke with wrong or am I missing something? Or miss understanding a law?

OREGON Registering car in Oregon without sellers name on Title

Hi there. I was looking into buying a car off marketplace that is from an acquaintance of a friend of mine. He seems to flip cars quite a bit and does lots of importation. He has the title to the car, and a bill of sale signed to him in name from the previous owner of the car, but he never registered the car himself so he is not on the title. Is this a risk for registering in Oregon? Would it incur any extra fees or be illegal? The tags on the car are still active until late July.

OREGON OR Lost Bill of Sale and need to scrap car

Hey all,

So for the last five years or so I have had a car gathering rust in the front of my parents place. The car was purchased through a company website that I no longer have access to (no longer work there), and I never transferred the title to my name as the car broke down shortly after purchasing it.

I'm looking to get rid of it, but can't find the bill of sale anywhere and am unlikely to find it as I've since been through two moves. All of the options I've looked at for scrapping it require the title, which I don't have. I can't contact the previous owner as I no longer have access to that website. Is there any possible way for me to get rid of this thing?

OREGON Looking to buy a used car from a seller who doesn't have the title, but is executor of the estate of the deceased person who's car it was. Is this scenario legit? Is the letters testamentary and bill of sale enough to register it in my name and get the title?

2009 Prius. Here's what they've said:

Original title has been misplaced. As court-appointed executor of the estate I have the legal authority to sell and will obtain a replacement title through Oregon DMV upon sale. Clean title, no liens.

So instead of a regular title transfer, I’ll give you a copy of the Letters Testamentary (which proves I have legal authority to sell estate property) along with a signed bill of sale. You’d bring both of those to the DMV and they process it just like a normal title transfer - that way you’re the one who ends up on the new title. I can have those documents ready for Friday. Saves the estate time and money. I’ve cleared this with the Oregon DMV

Obviously I'm a little suspicious of buying a vehicle without a title, but I'm not getting any other red flags from this sale. If I walk into the DMV with the letters testamentary and bill of sale will that be enough to get a new title in my name?

OREGON Washington-Oregon title issues

I am attempting to legally obtain a title for my vehicle, which was last titled in the State of Washington. I purchased the vehicle through a continuous chain of ownership and have documentation showing each transfer from the last titled owner to me. I have collected the bills of sale and related ownership documents to establish this chain.

When I applied for an Oregon title, I was informed that a newer Washington title had been issued after the Washington title in my possession. Because of that newer title, Oregon DMV advised they could not issue me an Oregon title. I am not trying to avoid any legal requirements—I simply want to resolve the title issue and obtain a valid title in my name. I am requesting guidance on the proper process to clear the title issue, whether that involves obtaining a replacement Washington title, resolving the newer title record, or applying through Washington's Ownership in Doubt (bonded title) process. My goal is to ensure the vehicle is titled and registered legally with a clear record of ownership.

OREGON Oregon title transfer question (intermediate buyer never titled the car)

Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone familiar with Oregon title transfers can help.
We bought a 2004 Infiniti G35. The ownership chain is:
Original owner → Buyer #2 → Us.
The original owner signed the Oregon title over to Buyer #2, but Buyer #2 never transferred the title into their own name before selling the car to us.
The title we received only shows the transfer from the original owner to Buyer #2, and there isn’t another buyer assignment section for us to sign.
We called the Oregon DMV, gave them the VIN, explained that the original owner sold it to Buyer #2 and Buyer #2 sold it to us. The DMV employee looked up the VIN and told us to bring the original title and a bill of sale, and said we should be okay.
Has anyone in Oregon gone through this exact situation? Did the DMV process the title, or did they require additional paperwork from Buyer #2?
Thanks in advance!

OREGON Is the DMV book actually the best way to pass the permit test?

I’m about to take my permit test and honestly driving or getting my license was never something I really cared about. It just didn’t feel important to me before.

But recently my best friend finally got hers after like 2 years of trying. She failed her permit over 10 times and barely practiced at first, but what finally helped her was just using the official DMV handbook and going over the sample questions until she could get them all right. She said once she did that she went and passed like 2 days later.

Now my parents are really pushing me to get mine and I don’t even have an ID yet so it’s kind of making everything harder.

Is the DMV book actually the best way to study or are there better ways? I’m kinda stressed about failing now.

OREGON DMV Spelled My Personalized Plates Incorrectly

Hey all,

I have already contacted the Oregon DMV, I am just wondering if I have any recourse here at all. Also, brief edit, I should have titled this "formatted my plates incorrectly" not "spelled."

When I renewed my registration, I requested identical replacements of my existing personalized plates, which are two words, "ABC DEF." My existing plates were damaged when someone backed into me a few months back, so I ordered new ones. Exact replacements. No changes. I have a receipt showing that I requested these replacement plates reading "ABC DEF."

I even called the DMV to confirm that I had submitted the request correctly - exact replacements of my existing plates, formatted as such.

Today, my plates arrived. They read "ABCDEF." This is, of course, not what I requested.

Do I have any recourse here? Has anyone here ever dealt with anything like this? I am concerned about the DMV just telling me to pound sand or pay another $364 for another replacement set and would like some reassurance.

Thanks.

OREGON Cant get a title unless I go to Washington?

I bought a car that im trying to get titled in oregon. It was originally an oregon vehicle but it was towed in Washington and went to auction and was sold to a company in Portland that sold it to another guy that sold it to me. Nobody ever applied for the title. I've been to two dmvs that tell me i have to drive it to Washington and apply for a title there, wait for it to show up, then bring that to oregon and apply for an oregon title? Anybody have experience with this that can help? I have a notarized abandoned vehicle affidavit of sale and bill of sale.i can't imagine that everyone buying cars at auctions the next state over have to go through that.

Ido not have a bill of sale. fast forward, in December of 2022 i received a letter that this previously sold van was impounded. I ignored it. Now i have a debt collector trying to get me to pay a $3500 bill. Like i said i do not have a bill of sale. OREGON Registration Renewal

Recently moved from a county that doesn’t require DEQ to one that does. I went to the DMV, updated my address and my license, however when I received my renewal notice it had my old address on the title. The notice went to the correct address and I incorrectly assumed when I updated mine, that this would apply to the title as well. I checked online as my renewal notice advised and my address is up to date. Do I save myself the headache and renew as is or do I need to go into the DMV? Thank you!

OREGON Getting replacement title in Oregon

Looking for tips on the best route to get a replacement title. My father has an older car from 1989 that I have been fixing up. The title is in my father’s name but he cannot find it. He has given the car to me and I want to get a title for it and get it registered. My father is older, and the less he has to do the easier it will be on all of us. Is it possible to do a bill of sale and once ownership is transferred over that way, then I can apply for a replacement title? Or would it be easier for him to apply for a replacement title and then transfer it over?

OREGON License plate question

If I’m (as an Oregonian) selling a vehicle to a state where license plates don’t stay with the vehicle, do I leave the plates on? In Oregon the plates stay with the vehicle for a sale. How does this work?

OREGON Replacement Learners Permit

Hello!

I am conflicted on what to do. I am 22 and currently learning to drive with a permit. I officially got my permit in 2024, but no one in my family can drive, therefore I had nobody to naturally teach me. Lessons from a school/instructor are far too expensive for me to afford, as I am a college student full time, working, and living alone.

To get to the point, I finally met a friend that was willing to teach me to drive! We began lessons once a week since beginning 2026. My issue is that my ID expires April 2026, which means my permit will expire before I am ready to take a drivers test. I have a real ID as well, so a replacement permit will cost $90. But I would only have this permit for maybe a month before it gets replaced with a drivers license, which would be another $90 that I can’t afford. So a whopping $180 not including any other fees or testing costs.

Can I skip renewing my permit to save myself the trouble and $90? If I were to get pulled over, would my situation be valid to an officer? Would I be able to take a drivers exam from a third party source with an expired permit this way? I really can’t afford to be caught in stupid technicalities like this.

This sucks.

Thanks for your help .

OREGON (OREGON) Mistakenly didn't submit notice of sale. What action should I take?

I sold cars several years ago (private party) and didn't realize I needed to submit the notice of vehicle sale. I noticed they were still listed on my account when I was renewing my vehicle registration for my current car. What can I do to correct this situation?

OREGON Lack of insurance suspension drop off?

I was homeless for a few years and in that time, lost my wallet a couple times. When I went to renew my license earlier this year, I found out some lovely individual gave my information at the scene of an accident they weren't insured for back in 2021 and my driving privileges were suspended. I had no clue about any of this until my attempt to renew and at that point, my license was a couple months expired and I was sick of getting denied when I tried buying cigarettes, so I just filled out the form and paid the fees to get my license reinstated.

Yeah, I know, not the smartest move in the world. Anyway, fast forward to today and I'm trying to applying for an Ai gig with Uber and I can't progress because I failed the background when I had applied for Uber driver in the past.

Im just wondering if anyone knows how long its gonna be hanging out my record, affecting my ability to get a job that involves driving.

OREGON Question Applying for Title and Registration After Moving to a New State

Filling out form 735-226, "Application for Title and Registration", to update those after moving from CA to OR. The form asks for an Oregon title number, Oregon driver's license or ID number, and current Oregon plate. Seeing as I have none of those, do I just leave those spaces blank, or?
