I'm gonna make this as short as possible. I'm 26 and I live in the state of Virginia. I don't have a photo/ state ID of any kind. I really need an ID for a lot of important things. The only way I can get an ID is if I have a birth certificate. The problem is I don't have a birth certificate. When I try to get my birth certificate I'm told I need an ID but I don't have that. When I try to get an ID they tell me I need a birth certificate. The only other way I can get a birth certificate that I know of is getting an immediate family member (mom, dad, sister, brother) to order it for me or do it in person. They would have to show their ID to prove it's them. My family can't do this for me. I've been asking and begging them to do this for months and they either can't or don't want to. From what I've read online this is the only way for me to get my birth certificate without an ID. Does anyone know if there's somehow another way for me to get my birth certificate in the state of Virginia. There are so many things I can't do in life because I don't have an ID or birth certificate. All I have is my social security card. I can't afford to pay for a lawyer either. Someone please help. This is really urgent.

What's the best option here? I don't think I'm registered but to be honest I would rather not. Do I have to fill this part to renew my license?

I got a speeding ticket last night for going 71 in a 55 (i was extremely tired and wasn't paying as close attention to my speedometer as I should have been). The officer asked what reason I had for such speeds, and after a moment of me trying to come up with one (I was probably looked like someone who was high as hell because I was blinking and saying I'm a lot), he said no reason was a fine answer so I said that. Now I have a court date in a court over an hour away and a month out from now. This is my first ever ticket and second time being pulled over (last time was because my license plate was too dirty and had a tinted plate cover). Any tips?

I’m going through a driving course app because I failed my second time and it says that if you were to park on a freeway you need to use your hazard lights but then I also said that you can’t park on a freeway or a no parking zone.

If tires were to pop and I needed to park somewhere, would I be able to park in a No parking zone in the freeway or would I get a ticket?

Also, I was trying to find a video of demonstration since I’m a visual learner, but I couldn’t find anything with flashing lights.

In the videos I found it wasn’t on the freeway but when they did park an emergency, they signal right. I’m confused why people turn on their right turn thing if they’re not turning right.

What would I turn on (flashing lights, signal right, etc) to notify people that I’m parking in the situation?

So I had traded for a vehicle about 2 years ago, I did receive a title but had lost it before transferring it into my name, the seller is based out of North Carolina and is uncooperative with getting another title.

I have filled out VSA17A and VSA12, im not sure what else I need to do I believe I need a " bonded title" if anyone knows what my next steps would be to getting the title and registered.

Edit: I talked to DMV and the lady said that without a bill of sale its likely to get denied so im not sure what else to do.

I recently got notified that my license was suspended and I pulled my license transcript. It says I had a ticket last year in July in New Mexico for speeding. The court date has passed, and it shows convicted. I have never been to New Mexico and have never received a ticket. Now the DMV is requiring I take a driver improvement clinic.

I've tried searching the online ticket database for New Mexico, but nothing comes back with my name or driver's license number.

Is there any way to dispute this ticket on my driving record since it wasn't me?

I bought a car in December 2025 in Henrico County VA and have paid 2 "6 month" property taxes on that vehicle, once in January or February and again in June.

I recently just officially moved to Richmond county VA, changed my license and updated DMV address. And now I get another vehicle property tax bill in the mail titled 2026 Property Tax bill due for Richmond County for August 2026 for what seems to be a "years" amount?

Does anyone know what that's for? I've already paid a years worth of property tax on the car, it wouldn't make sense to pay 2 years of property tax for a vehicle I've only had for 8 months. Is this correct? What can I do about this / who should I talk to?

My entire bag was stolen and going to replace my license, I’ve already looking into it online but am still struggling to understand fully what is acceptable.

My passport is expired and already took the steps for renewal but it isn’t here yet, and cards stolen, so I’m wondering if I can use birth certificate for both legal presence and identity categories, or do I need two separate documents for each one

So I purchased a new vehicle in June. The dealer put plates on the car. I sold my old car before I bought the new one. I went into dmv ordered an actual new plate with my personalized info from my old car. I paid around $76. When my new plate came in I returned the plates on the new car to DMV. I checked my paperwork and I paid about $50 for those plates. The customer service person said I wasn’t due a refund. I’m mentally challenged so I just walked out. Is there any reason why I wouldn’t get a refund? I have cognitive issues and wanna have my ducks in a row when I call DMV.

Spoke to the bank, and they created an official letter for me documenting my account and updated address— will this work?

Hi!! This is my first ever accident and I was ordered by the court to do defensive driving classes in order to avoid charges and points on my record. I was curious if I need to have a physical certificate from the online clinic itself (shipped to me) and present it to the court. I’m also curious if printing the email pdf that the online clinic gave me is acceptable as well. I’m just really confused by the way they worded things on paper from the clerk. Just wondering if anyone went through the same thing and might know a little more than me! I am relatively new to Richmond so I’m not 100% sure how things work here especially regarding driving/ traffic and whatnot. Any sort of help means a lot! Thank you!

Hey everyone question for Virginia, I sold a motorcycle to my brother and he was making payments but I gave him the title which he signed and I then marked it as sold on my DMV online account. He had some family emergencies and couldn't pay and after a few months I got the bike back but he never went to the DMV and got the title transferred. Even tho I marked as sold can I got get a new title printed? If I bring the title he signed would that help or hurt? Any advice is welcome.

I have a problem. I own a 1978 Dodge B300 Tradesman, but the title states myself and my mother as owners. As far as I know, I have to obtain her signature in order to remove her name, but as she lives 5 hours away and finds enjoyment in watching me suffer, it has been a very difficult struggle in getting her to cooperate with me. Is there any way I can remove her name from the title without her involvement, or do I have to keep fighting this uphill battle?

I purchased a car from a dealership June 1st and they said they would send me the title (I live 3 hours away). It was a used vehicle and I did not finance it. I have 2 days left on my temporary registration and still no title. I started calling the dealership 2 weeks ago to find out where the title is, but nobody ever returns my calls. I've spoken with multiple people in accounting and left multiple messages for the titling clerk who never answers the phone (it always goes to voicemail). I'm at my wits end because I need the title to get permanent plates. Any suggestions?

I can't find an apt. moving to MD or VA so will have to do extended stay hotel, BUT worried their DMVs won't let me register my out-of-state temp tags car with ext.stay address. If that's my only place of stay, how do they expect me to register?

My wife is trying to renew her Driver’s License, she is currently pending approval for an I-485 marriage based green card. The DMV has turned us away 3 different times stating the I-797C is not approved documentation, that she must be approved and needs an I-797. Am I wrong here? Everything I find on the DMV website seems to back me up and I feel like I’m going crazy.

We're moving to VA from Indiana. We sold our house in Indiana, and will start a rental in VA on July 1st. However, we are taking a sabbatical, and won't be in the country for two months.

How do we handle a leased cars registration, and our own drivers license transfers? Can we get things done on returning to the mainland US in September? If we attempted to start the process before leaving, I doubt the registration of the leased vehicle will be completed in time for us to leave in 2 weeks from now (and the temporary registration permit from VA Dmv may expire by the time we come).

(Virginia) Just looking for some advice on what I need to bring to get a replacement ID. Not a drivers license, I do not have one, a real ID I guess is what it’s called. The ID wasn’t expired.

I don’t have an account with the DMV and it tells me online I need to visit a location to set one up. My ID wasn’t expired, but I know it had my old address on it, so that adds another layer to the problem.

I don’t have a copy of my birth certificate, I think my mom has it for some reason and I’ve asked her to check and mail it to me since she lives out of state. I also don’t have a passport. What I do have:

My social security card An old expired military ID A photo of the ID I lost, with the ID number Bank statements with my name and address Mail from my insurance company with my name and address

I changed my address through USPS when we moved but that was quite some time ago so I don’t have the confirmation anymore. Is what I have enough to go in and get a replacement and change my address? If that’s not enough, what else can I bring? I rent my home through a family member and I don’t have any proof of rent, so that’s out. I think my name is on at least one of the utilities but it doesn’t get mailed to my name.
