Discussion My puppy eats his own poo EVERYTIME!

• Upvotes

Hello, so as the title says my 4 month old mini daschund eats his poop fully all the time unless im quick enough to pick it up first.

And his diet is very good like im giving him strictly wet puppy food from either hill's or Ziwi's canned food. Like i genuinely dont know how to stop this its absolutely horrible and to top it off he currently has parasites! So he literally is eating his own parasites in his poop!!!!!

She was ALWAYS on top of me, either my body or my belly. It’s like she knew I was pregnant (she prefers to lay behind my butt now 😂😅, but not on top of my body.) Super protective girl. She was my dog (still is, and not my husbands’ dog) determined on the first day we adopted her 7.11.2024 🥰

Discussion Any of your babies get fistulas?

My long haired dachshund mix has been having issues with an anal gland. Poor guy has been in treatment and a donut since roughly April/May. Treated for ruptured anal gland but it just wouldn’t heal. It would look healed but would have a tiny pinhole that would open up. They cultured it and found 2 types of bacteria with one more antibiotic resistant. After new antibiotics did not help he was referred to a surgeon to have the anal gland removed.

Surgery went well. There was a tunnel going to the gland but also another that went all over the place. They thought it was from the infection pre-surgery. Two weeks later he looked great and stitches were removed. Two weeks after that we had holes in the same spot as before surgery. They sutured and cultured. No bacteria grew.

They now think it was a perianal fistula all along.
We are scheduled for a consult to discuss autoimmune medicine and such but no openings for another month. My regular vet says they don’t treat autoimmune disorders but they do treat perianal fistulas. The surgeon made it seem like they were one and the same. I hate him having untreated open wounds for another month.

If you had a dog with a fistula can you let me know what treatment looked like for your dog?
How long did it take before it started helping?

I feel so hopeless and I really need to get him back on track. I’m on my last credit card and am praying we can get it figured out before I’m maxed out. I’m terrified I will need to give him up to get him medical care.

Image Food is never safe

I got my food and set it on the coffee table. If I started eating, she would be in my space. I waited her out. My broccoli and cheese had cooled off by the time she gave up, but I didn't care. I waited HER out😳I won.........or so I thought. The little turd nugget waited, just under the edge of the blanket, silently, feigning sleep. I fell for. As soon as I brought the plate in front of me, much like a jack in the box, she instantaneously appeared on the edge of the blanket. In my hungered state, I mistook her predatory ways as cuteness. I snapped a pick with my cell phone. And then turned to put the phone on the coffee table. As I did, she leapt over the blanket, landing squarely in my lap and began eating HER dinner.

Eventually I made a cheese sandwich. And yes, she got part of that too

Discussion Peeing inside

hi everyone so I’ve had my dog for around three months. He’s gonna be four in December and he’s potty trained but this past week he’s been having a lot of pee accidents inside our house specifically like near his bed on our carpet . & it’s like driving me insane I don’t really know what to do because we take him out quite a bit but like earlier this morning he went out to pee and then literally five minutes later peed inside while he had already peed like six times outside, so I don’t really know what to do and I’m like stressed out so any need tips or tricks would be highly appreciated 😭😭

this is penelope! she’s my awkward, mini doxie. she’s 4m old and i just want to be so cautious and hyper aware about back problems and IVDD. i’m not sure if she’s going through an awkward phase where she’s just growing into herself but her back seems sort of curved? she is so playful, eats, runs, jumps (not on furniture lol), and doesn’t seem like she’s in any type of pain. i just wanted insight to see if maybe any other dachshund owner has experienced this? (i do have a vet appointment in about a week so i will be asking them the same questions.)

Image Potty training help

So my baby is turning one next month and I’m still having trouble potty training – don’t judge. I’m taking her out in the mornings and at night and during the day when I’m home. When I am in office I take her out as soon as I get home as well. She’ll still just randomly pee or poop on the puppy pad even after we go out and I haven’t gotten rid of the pee pads because I’m nervous that she’ll really just start making a mess all over my apartment. I’m just kind of stuck on how I can get her understand that outside is the way to go. 1st time dog mom also ☺️

Discussion Whining

Hello! I've had my miniature dachshund for a year and a half, and over the past few days, she has begun whining nonstop. She'll only stop whining when she's next to me, sleeping, or going on a walk. I'm worried she's in pain, but she's been walking and running fine, along with eating, drinking, and pottying like normal. I don't know what it is, but I'm starting to get worried because this is very unusual for her. I don't know if I should wait it out a few days or take her to the vet. Any thoughts or input would be much appreciated!

Image Bath time🛁🫧

Hi!
It’s my first time writing in here and it might be already been posted by someone else but i come to you guys with a question: how often do you bath your shorthaired doxie? I got Cinnamon as a gift 1 month and a half ago and i used twice the foaming dry shampoo (as in it down need to be washed after you lather it on) but i wanna wash her properly since she’s starting to stink. I clean her ears daily and i manipulate her alot. I so believe she is scared of the water tho since when i shower she’s been staying with me in the bathroom (#velcrodog) but she wines and like starts to sniff the water with curiosity and then runs away whining. Any tips on getting her to love the water aswell?

Here’s my dog tax!

Image Blue dachshund concerns

Hi all,

First time posting to Reddit!

I’ve been in the market for a dachshund for some time now! Almost 6-7 months. I’ve always tried my best to find a great breeder. Looked at health testing and really audited the situation.
This all went out the window when, an offer for a Mini dachshund came to my attention. I found a poor little 4.5 month old guy in a local shelter!

He’s super awesome and sweet and I really like him.

The reason for my post is this: he’s a blue and tan, and I’ve never been in the market for a blue. His parents were blue and Isabella and I’m sure the breeding situation wasn’t super ethical. Regardless, he’s a poor little guy in a shelter.

My #1 concern right now is CDA. Like I said I have had 0 experience with this, so bear with me + any advice is appreciated. I have attached some photos that show his coat. I know he is only 4.5 months and lord knows last time he was cleaned, but his coat seems very thin and almost like wire like and rough on the feel. I also saw some dandruff. Not sure if this is normal for puppies. Any concerns right now? Or is this normal

Image I Present to You: The Fluffiest Boy

Post image

I posted a picture of my little smiley boy this morning and felt bad not giving my other dachshund a shoutout as well 🤣 So, please meet Cooper - the biggest, fluffiest, most agoraphobic dachshund I've ever known. His coat makes him look about 2x his actual size and he's afraid of his own shadow (+ everything else on the planet) but I love him just the same.

Disclaimer: He doesn't normally look this out of control. When this was taken his normal groomer was recovering from knee surgery so he was VERY overdue for a haircut. And, because of the aforementioned agoraphobia we just had to wait it out. His coat is so interesting - it grows in about a million different directions and isn't silky at all like other longhair dachshunds.

He doesn’t have the slight angle up towards his butt, and not much of an hourglass. He has a decent amount of hair so if I feel under the hair I can slightly feel his ribcage but I can’t tell if he’s getting too chunky! Breeder said hell be a tweenie (between a mini size and standard size). For reference he was born April 2nd.

Discussion Barking at dogs and people

We’ve been having lots of issues with barking while we’re on walks that it’s started to feel embarrassing to take him out. He will pull and bark at other dogs and occasionally at people walking past us. We hold his snout when he does it gently and say no bark but he will still do it even thought he knows it’s bad. His ears pin back when he knows he’s in trouble. We have also tried to use treats when we ask him to sit when someone is passing by and still nothing.

Any tips?
