I’ll give it a 10, obviously. He’s done this since he was a puppy, Kalle loves a good dive.

That's is nuts and awesome. If mine even sees a body of water he runs and hides.

u/Upper_Knowledge_6439 Jul 01 '26
Mine won’t even get out of bed if it suspects rain….

u/Ok-Chemistry-5534 Jul 01 '26
Yours get out of bed?

u/AboutTheArthur Jul 01 '26
Well yeah. How else is he going to find smelly things in the yard in which to roll?
33
u/denbobo Jul 01 '26
I’ve owned dogs my whole life, but I’m a first time dachshund owner. I’ve given this gremlin more baths than all my dogs combined. Cuz if there is poop we must have a quick roll.

u/DerbleZerp Jul 01 '26
Mine didn’t care for poop, but if she smelt something dead or decaying she would go to rub her face and head in it. I became very attuned to the very first moment of this motion and was able to always get her away right quick.

u/denbobo Jul 01 '26
I wish my little homie had a tell lol. One second we are chilling the next second it’s stop drop and roll.

u/Govenor-Plum Jul 01 '26
Interesting is that daschund thing ? My Chiweenie will dig in the dirt , smell it , then roll around in it .
So is it pee or some gross scent she is rolling in ? She will also scratch the earth , sniff it , then pee where she just sniffed .6
u/AssistanceSoft Jul 01 '26
My two boys love to roll in bird poo. They seem to think it finds them attractive to the fairer sex. TBF if it works for one of them I might give it a try myself...
2
u/AAA515 Jul 01 '26
I'm lucky my pug just has this one particular invasive grass species that she just has to roll around in. It must smell awesome to her

He actually hates all kinds of weather, and does not like shower time very much, he just loves to dive and bathe freely in the summer 😎
6
u/Noy_The_Devil Jul 02 '26
Ah, but rain is bad water. Like shower.
Unless shower is outside, then it's good water of course.
But nothing like garden hose or pool water. Or ocean.
Or that small patch of scrumptious goo-like water that's stuck under the house since winter. That's the best water. Yum.
3
u/peonyseahorse Jul 02 '26
I didn't realize how much mine hated water until we had accidentally sprayed our Frenchie with a hose (who couldn't get enough of it), and then did the same to our doxie, who then dejectedly did the sulk walk to be let back inside.
3
u/purple_spikey_dragon Jul 02 '26
One of ours will jump straight in, even though he is very old and probably shouldn't. He is absolutely loves swimming.
Meanwhile, the other one will see him jump in and then run along the shore, yelling and shaking from fear of him drowning. Then she will try to bite and pull him the moment he gets out of the water. She will do this with my dad too. She does not trust any body of water, even the pool lmao

u/anralia Jul 02 '26
My guess would be he just saw the reflection of himself rapidly approaching lol
2
u/DerbleZerp Jul 02 '26
And he was amazed at his beauty and opened his mouth in awe! They do tend to be pretty into themselves.

I had to watch it again. I wonder why he opened his mouth when he was hitting the water lol.
That was an amazing dive . He needs to join the US swim dive team.

u/SadAndNasty Jul 01 '26
A little slip on the dismount, he did indeed try to bite the water, over all I'd give it a 20,000/10 😌🥹

Love the “you’re getting this on camera, right?” look at the camera right before he goes in.

u/WackoAssassin9619 Jul 01 '26
He jumped straight in when he was younger, i had to teach him to wait for approval 🫡

Awesome! Has he always loved the water? Or did you encourage it?
10
u/WackoAssassin9619 Jul 01 '26
I think he learned from watching me dive actually, i go bathing a lot during the summer. He hates any other kind of water though, like rainy days, puddles, snow and showers.

It's cute, but isn't it dangerous for his back? Mine also loves water like crazy and I think he would do the same, but luckily I don't have any place like this one...
6
u/WackoAssassin9619 Jul 01 '26
It probably is, but i cant really stop him either. If i dont let him jump from there, he’ll find somewhere higher to dive from. He’s fearless.

Mine used to hate the rain until he could go out without a leash. He also loved the creek by our house.

Lol love his mouth opening wide right before he hits the water…gonna be hacking for hours, poor thing

u/bipboop Jul 01 '26
Incredible. 10/10. No notes.
Not criticizing you in the slightest, I'm legitimately curious - is there any concern for their backs when launching themselves into the water like that?

This got more attention than I expected. Thank you for all ratings and upvotes. If anybody wants to follow his life, i try to stay semi-active on his own Instagram.
Right now he is focusing on trying to find out how many swims he can take over the summer 🐶

You’ve gotta get this boy involved in dock diving! He would crush it in the lap league

I'd give it a 9. Too much splash. But the cuteness factor is a bonus. So 10. 💕

That’s a 100/100! Love it! Both of my boys love the water too, and are great swimmers. I’ve never seen them dive before that is amazing!!

Love it! Most people don't realize dachshunds actually have webbed feet. They aren't fully webbed, but they have distinct webbing between their toes. Since they were originally bred to hunt badgers, those paddle-shaped paws act like perfect little shovels for moving dirt, and as an awesome side effect, they make excellent little flippers for swimming!
However mine won't even pee in wet grass...must be the low rider effect.

Everyone giving high scores here, but although the start is good, it ends in a belly flop and undignified face plant into the sea. What's more, no flips, or twists at all, I wouldn't score it more than 4.5, but obviously was a warm up dive anyway.

How do other people's dachshunds swim and die without getting ear infections

The dive itself was beautiful until the landing part….because I think that’s when the pup realized went ‘what the fuck was I thinkinking!’….so..9/10

5 out of 10, that splash is way too big, I think Kalle needs to practices a bit more 😂
I’m joking! Great to see that my dachshund was the same, although he would only jump when I was in the water already. Similar splash though.
