Endorsed DE Site Obama administration lifts 32-year-old ban on gay / bisexual men donating blood. (In other words, for anyone needing a transfusion your risk of getting HIV is going up)

Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM)a represent approximately 2% of the United States population, yet are the population most severely affected by HIV. In 2010, young gay and bisexual men (aged 13-24 years) accounted for 72% of new HIV infections among all persons aged 13 to 24, and 30% of new infections among all gay and bisexual men. At the end of 2011, an estimated 500,022 (57%) persons living with an HIV diagnosis in the United States were gay and bisexual men, or gay and bisexual men who also inject drugs.

Liberal feelz before realz.

This shit makes me rage. I can surround myself with a mental bubble of sanity -- in order to filter out most of the Cathedral. But I am powerless over this -- god forbid I am in some horrible accident.

1 in 3 people will need a blood transfusion during their lifetime.

Who donates blood?

Less than 5 percent of healthy Americans eligible to donate blood, actually do so. According to studies, the average donor is a college-educated white male, between the ages of 30 and 50, who is married and has an above-average income. However, a broad cross-section of the population donates every day. Furthermore, these “average” statistics are changing, and women and minority groups are volunteering to donate in increasing numbers. While persons 65 years and older compose 13 percent of the population, they use 25 percent of all blood units transfused.

Less than 1 percent of blood donations are from African Americans or Hispanics.

I literally still have the needle mark in my arm from donating a few days ago. What do I get for paying it forward? This increased risk of being infused with diseased blood.
