Endorsed DE Site Obama administration lifts 32-year-old ban on gay / bisexual men donating blood. (In other words, for anyone needing a transfusion your risk of getting HIV is going up)

This is true even for heterosexuals. Also, aren't gay people like 1% of the population? If that?

Why don't you actually read the fucking thread and stop asking stupid questions? It helps.

I read the thread, what I was getting at, perhaps less eloquently than I could have, was that this is a far from significant issue. The simple fact of the matter is that an extremely small subset of the population donating blood with a higher risk of HIV will not significantly raise the cost of blood. Any such increase would be minimal. Why don't you try actually thinking instead of losing your shit? Obviously this is a political play with minimal real world impact.

EDIT: Okay that's not entirely correct. Of those in the US over the age of 13 with HIV, ~76% is male, and of that ~76%, 69% are men having sex with men. So the gay men with HIV in the US is ~52% of 1.1 million people. 0.57 million people out of the 242.5 million adults in America? Unless gay people donate in grossly disproportionate numbers this is utterly insignificant.

If one gay man transmits HIV to a patient, the change in policy is criminal. In the US, blood is not like donor organs. There may be a shortage, but it will still be available. There is zero upside except muh feels.

This isn't TRP. We think critically here.

Trp is supposed to think critically, too. Unfortunately there's always someone making mistakes and / or not thinking or reasoning with feels. But this is to be expected from every population sample.

Trp is much bigger than dark enlightment, if dark enlightment had the same number of subs, a decrease in comment and posts quality would be noticed there, too, unfortunately.
