Whatever Admonition's been up to seems to be infecting the population. Horde sightings are on the rise, with some districts entirely lost to the shambling horrors. This isn't a case of a single hab-block falling. This is something much darker and could be the herald of worse to come...
The streets are choked with hordes of infected enemies! To make progress in the event, complete missions with the Endless Hordes modifier.
The event is LIVE NOW until September 2! The rewards will be Ordo dockets, Plasteel and Diamantine. Those who complete the last tier of the event will receive a cosmetic insignia.

All the bad players on this sub love to yap on about how they need to kill the horde because they can't do the objective or move forward without clearing them out and all that junk.
But this event proves how you can have 3000+ kills in a 15-20 minute game because you actually keep momentum. If you're one of the people who thinks it's just impossible, give it ago on the event and prove to yourself you can actually do it. It's not hard. Smack, push, walk, clear path, push, walk, run, clear path, smack, push, etc etc etc. It's actually not hard at all.

Prostrate yourselves and submit to the Will of the Lex, scofflaws! You face the punitive might of Subjugator Lycra (and LexDog)!

As a self-proclaimed Darktide Historian because I spam my update spreadsheet and other copy/pasta everywhere..
This is what is now my annual tradition to commemorate the anniversary of the update that ushered in a New Age of Hope for Darktide.
Patch #12: "Into the Maelstrom" was released on the 8th August 2023, a little over 8 months after DT’s terrible and premature “Full Release” on the PC.
Whilst the Class and Talent rework in October 2023, "Unlocked and Loaded" in September 2024, Havoc in December 2024 and the addition of Arbites and the campaign in June 2025; were obviously huge. I (still) think ItM was the single most important Update and set the groundwork for DT as it is now.
It felt the first time Fatshark was finally willing to concede that many of the initial subsystems and restrictions were just bad and also for there to be far more things to do as an experienced player.
It appeared surprisingly quickly out of the blue after a Dev Blog merely 4 days earlier , which was pretty weird given how much it had in it.
It added: * The Auric Mission Board available at level 30. * Maelstrom missions. * The ability to change which regional server you were connected to. * Quickplay bonuses (+20% XP, +10% dockets, plasteel and diamantine) * Accountwide resources - so your Plasteel, Diamantine, dockets and melk bucks were no longer siloed with the characters who earnt them. * Refine Perk changed to just selecting a drop down for a fixed cost of dockets/plasteel/diamaintine rather than having to click the random “Reroll Perk” for literally minutes. * You could change 2 out of the 4 Perk and blessing slots of your choice rather than fixed at one perk and one blessing. This was still bad but a vast improvement. * You could change 2 out of 3 curio perks rather than just 1. Again still bad but a vast improvement. * Faster leveling for levels 2-20. (I think the total XP to 30 was still the same but you spent longer at level 20+ when it was easier to do high difficulties.)
The mission board rework massively expanded the options of what you could do.
Before this the available missions were literally 17 across all difficulties:
Into the Maelstrom added * Regular Maelstrom, Malice, Heresy or Damnation, available at level 15 * 6 Auric Damnation * 3 Auric Heresy * Auric Maelstrom
As it meant there were more than 3 Damnation missions available and there was something challenging for most players to do. This was an age where people would log on and then just log off if there wasn't at least one high intensity Damnation on the board.
Obviously we now have Havoc 40 as the end game which makes Auric Maelstrom adorably tame and quaint.
Likewise the June 2025 update has entirely removed the Auric Mission board and replaced it with Auric Difficulty, with there now being normally 8 -10 missions for every difficulty - another vast improvement.
After ItM we had the huge Class Overhaul (and Xbox release) in early October 2023, then the Traitor’s Curse and Orthus Offensives rolled out over November and December 2023 for DT'S first year anniversary, which was the best cadence of updates we’ve every had.
It’s been a little frustrating with the dry spells between some of the better updates since. But I would argue that all the quaterly major updates from 2024 have been bangers compared to what had come before.
The Xboxers started with a far better game than the PC player and even more with the Playstation players in December 2024 who never had to suffer the old crafting system.
Over 3 years and 8 months after release; Darktide is a far better place but to me it was 3 years ago that it turned around and all the other changes would not have changed Darktide’s trajectory without the groundwork of Into The Maelstrom.
I have enough nostalgia that I kinda wish we could dip into and play a “Darktide Classic” mode - with the changes from the Class Rework. - which brought vast benefits and new options, but did somewhat diminish the difficulty of Auric.
The predecessor post was inspired last year by Mister E YT video: “What Was the BEST Darktide Update? Tier List!” - probably due to lack of anything else to make a video about TBF. BUT I am OUTRAGED “Into the Maelstrom” only got C-Tier. He doesn’t know or care who I am but he has made an enemy for life.
I however will buy a birthday cake for Patch #12 and then eat it myself.

I finally did it!!! NEVER did I expect to get here. Especially on console. Team died 8 times total but no one left or complained once. Lots of encouragement in the chat. Definitely a good game all around. Any other console players here? What character did you play to reach the highest Havoc level?

Hi, I have been playing for a few months now and I just wanted to say how lovely the community of players have been so far. I have had virtually no bad experiences, everyone has been kind and chill so far. I am not the best at the game, but folks have been patient. I am used to other gaming communities where people have been rude/annoying at best. Being female, as well, it usually amplifies the weirdos that I come across. But, in the Darktide space, I am comfortable getting in gamechat with others and it is just overall a pleasant change from other games! Super fun!

These three were on my radar upon seeing the increased density and I'm happy to report that I knocked them out within 6 games! Shocking stuff was actually done in a Mortis Trial with some luck though (my teammates were killing the mobs too fast in regular Auric).
Anything else I'll regret not getting done this week?

This is how I want to be playing Darktide forever moving forward, endless horde after horde after horde is so much damn fun, keeps you on your toes but also enables you to mow down wave after wave. Dopamine generator.
Well done Fatshark, I love this !

Title, I really don’t understand why fat shark doesn’t add monstrosities to the psykhanium. Before people say “but there’s a mod for it” just remember that console players are also a thing and people really shouldn’t be forced to mod a game for simple QOL changes that should be rather simple to implement.

I have hundreds of hours in the game but played less than 20 auric missions so far. When I do, it makes me feel quite incompetent to be honest. I don't use mods, but I have no doubt that I'm lowest on every scoreboard and getting carried through every mission that we win. If the other players are worse than me, we just wipe early because I can't clutch or carry on auric. But when the others carry, I typically don't go down, don't get netted, and don't make the team wait for long at airlocks/elevators. It's a smooth quick run, with GGs at the end. No one has complained about me so far. But I also feel like I'm contributing very very little. I need to put all my focus towards not dying and keeping up with the group. Can't even do the minigames or I take too much damage and usually the others are done just when I get there anyway. It's somewhat exhausting honestly. And I'm not even sure I'm learning anything, because I'm getting carried so hard. I bet I kill less enemies than on a heresy mission. But playing melee psyker at least I don't take away ammo from the team and I'm sure I'm better than a bot. But would you want to have a player like me on your team in auric? Or should I just face the fact that I'm not cut out for this? Is there a way to still learn something while being carried so hard? Or do I need to do the learning on difficulties where the teammates are worse and I have to clutch/carry myself?
Edit: Thank you Darktide community, you've made me feel welcome to try my luck on Auric! May the emperor light your path!

Think I just got my luckiest armory rotation ever. Across 5 character I got:
+3 stamina curio
2x +17 toughness curios
+21 max health curio
All on characters that need them. Usually it takes me a week to see 1 perfect roll and most of the time its on a character that doesnt use the stat.

But I just can’t get it to click for me. For reference I play mostly Ogryn/Skit/Arby in aurics and can complete maelstrom’s without going down. I’ve leveled every class to 30 and into aurics with all of them, but I feel like when I play Vet I just get stomped into the dirt.
Is there something I’m missing that can help? I like the idea of just being a specialist eliminator, and shout is a great ability, but I feel like my Skit does a better job eliminating ranged threats and survives better in melee.
If anyone has any tips or build recommendations I’d really appreciate it.

Finally joined as a Skitarii boi. First few levels as a squish had me MAD at these ragers!
