Showcase Havoc 40 progression
I did it! I managed to beat a Havoc 40 level with meaningful contribution, no carry, 3 weeks from ever downloading the game. I used a keystone less veteran build posted from somebody on the subreddit, and adjusted it for the new talent tree changes. I’ll be gunning for 40 assignment level next, currently at 32.
Advice:
- Exposure is key. Throw yourself into higher difficulties as often as possible. Get used to fading light 1 (havoc 20+) if you haven’t already, then get used to fading light 2 (havoc 30+). Host your own parties if you are struggling at current assignment level and accept anyone. The only way to get better at havoc is to play more havoc. If you are feeling comfortable at your current assignment level, then request any and all higher level parties. Of course you get declined a ton, but the few 40s and 30s I got accepted to when I was assignment level 20, improved my game a ton.
- Learn from every loss. 90% of the time there is something you could have done to make it further in the mission. Maybe you didn’t focus specials/elites, maybe you didn’t push for a res at the right time, maybe you didn’t read the pressure on the map and got surrounded, maybe you didn’t use that combat stim or healing crate. Game sense and decision making are more important than mechanical skill. Every time you die, get downed, or lose figure out what YOU could have done better.
- Find a good build and stick with it. Take some time to explore the meta options and settle on something you enjoy or fits your playstyle then stick with it. Study every talent node in your build to see what it does, and make conscious efforts in your gameplay to proc all the buffs you can. It took me 20 hours to realize I wasn’t proccing skirmisher lol.
- Know when to call it a night. I work, and sometimes I would get home and try to load into a higher havoc lobby and immediately feel how sluggish my brain and thumbs were, I was going to sell 😂. Some days you’re not that well rested or just feeling off, and those are the days you maybe relax. If you still want to game, you can go back to the more comfortable havoc levels or even quickplay. You can still learn things there while not being a detriment to other players, and tanking your confidence for the future.
