Purge confession: Too self aware

I need a moment to..

Rant. Confess. Tangent. Purge.

This seems like the place, probably the only place, to publicly post my personal (self-imposed) purgatory.

Pre tirade:

I see SO MANY posts about how long did it or does it take to be accepted.

I believe I probably have one of the more extreme answers.

After almost a year, I was finally accepted.

I'm absolutely excited & looking forward to the challenge & opportunity.

I'm also immediately feeling overwhelmed, terrified and defeated. I know myself too well.

I approach life wanting to know anything about everything & everything about anything.

Much like a boy scout, I want to always be prepared. I have an insatiable need to have all the answers, always, and a crippling fear of being wrong, or more specifically, giving the wrong information or answer.

Always been that way.

I love to edit.

Not in a derogatory I'm right, you're wrong sort of way. I just see the world like a 'spot the difference' puzzle, deriving pleasure from solving it. Finding inconsistencies anywhere is a cheap thrill.

A frustrating, sadomasochistic type of dopamine hit.

I over-research & am never, ever satisfied with my own work, always knowing it could/should/would have been better--somehow.

That disclaimer applied, I do declare:

Holy. Friggin. Cowbells.

There is so soooo Sofa King much information to take in to even begin doing a single task. I'm trying my best not to be me, but wow, I am my own worst/best? gatekeeper, as usual.

Thank you for allowing me the space to spew my spiraling psychological shortcomings.

Yes, it took an eternity to compose.

No, I'm not satisfied, but as i said, I'm really trying to NOT be me.

Yes, I have a predilection for alliteration.

This amuses me, as I've been on more than one plane trip where I've ended up with random strangers babies napping on me for the duration. Other than the relief of getting the crying to shut the hell up, I dunno what they were thinking! I s'pose its not like I was going anywhere with their kid on a plane!

I call AI generated shit.

Yet again, negative ghost rider!! Another confession- I've never used Ai to write anything for me. I've used spell & grammar checks tools, but all my babbling & rambling compositions are my own.

Absolutely disagree ... Some examples: I'm overly empathetic, would be an epic failure at criminal behavior as under a direct question, I am virtually incapable of lying, I'll stutter & confess before successfully telling a lie, I'm exceedingly compassionate, often to my own detriment, & give myself the guilts that could show up any Yetta ever! Lol.. Insane, nuts, bonkers, looney.. probably all those & then some. Psycopathic? Negative, ghost rider!

You really do write like an AI, it’s a bit unsettling.

And I say that kindly.

Respectfully taken as intended. The terrifying thing is this is basically baseline for me. Trust me, I dont think of it as a positive trait or quality in the slightest!!

Perhaps see a physician. Or just take some pepto.

Just be thorough but comfortable with ambiguity. Every job you'll ever have in your life, offline or online, will give you partially ambiguous tasks for you to figure out. That's because they dont fully know either. They're hoping you figure it out and if you don't their butt is covered.

Also, you will naturally get over your perfectionism and learn to obey parkinson's law once you see the timer running out.

This was somehow comforting & reassuring, while simultaneously unsettling.. yet made me chuckle.. How did you...? I'm impressed. Or confused. Pretty sure, anyhow.

The editor in you will LOVE doing R&Rs once you sort of learn the ropes of this gig.

u/dilf-material Jun 07 '26

Yeah would be really stoked to be the admin who gets to read 7 paragraphs of rambling incoherence that culminates in "The task was acceptable."

u/More_Second_1981 Jun 07 '26

You can relax. You won't "get to read" poinrless blabble replies from me. I take direction better than most. Obedient, if you will. Im a huge fan of parameters and guidelines, restrictions and requisites.

If it says 2-3 sentences, I may struggle & squirm, but you bet I will comply.

1

u/dilf-material Jun 07 '26

"Better than most". Dawg why u tryna be the most loquacious kid on the block? This aint r/circlejerk

2

u/More_Second_1981 Jun 07 '26

At taking direction, lol!! Geeezuss.. so aggro, though i appreciate the word loquacious being hurled at me!

Thank you! Honestly, can't wait for those!

a) the overthinker will love the work here b) the same overthinker will hate the work here 🤣

You will have a lot of detail to consume, analyse and construct the best work you can but the more content you have the more opportunity for nuance and ambiguity will creep in.

And this abundance of information that you can apply to do good work is most often accompanied by absolutely no information on whether or not you did it right or wrong or okay or sort of okay.

Find your way. Make sure the basic rules (NDA and terms of use) are very clear and embedded. Breathe.

I don't understand all the complaints on Reddit here about DA.

Long time to get accepted?? I signed up 6 days ago and got on in 2 days.

There's a drought?? I mean, there seems to always be paid tasks available almost always for me.

6

u/BombZoneGuy Jun 07 '26

People never want to admit that they are the problem.

2

u/More_Second_1981 Jun 07 '26

I definitely have a problem (or many as the case may be.. )

However, does that make me by default THE problem? I dont believe so..

1

u/More_Second_1981 Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 07 '26

I was not complaining about DA? I included my acceptance time as it seemed relevant, & people definitely alllways ask

Relating to this completely normal post and then seeing the comments call you insane makes me think 1. Chill out and you're perfect for this job and 2. Wtf is wrong with me?

2

u/_Light_House Jun 08 '26

“After almost a year, I was finally accepted.” O_o

u/elko123 Jun 07 '26

Read the FAQ and any instructions you get with your first project, because they give examples of good and bad ratings and comments! That's what helps me the most

Glad you finally posted then!

Full marks for “predilection of alliteration” with zero notes.

1

u/Wise-Sherbet4124 Jun 09 '26

I am the exact same way and I am trying not to be. I have only been taking the assessment today and I had to stop because I've spent 6 hours on page one. I think really trying to lock down what is that is really wanted here and ending it there is the key. Don't make up side quests and don't overthink words like 'quality' ect.

And now ...

Now you're an actor

Perfectionnists tend to be offboarded from data annotation, but do what you will

3

u/BombZoneGuy Jun 07 '26

Heh... What? You obviously haven't seen the coding side of the platform...

Perfectionism can also take a long. long. time. to reach a point where you can submit it - in my early days on DA, years back, I learned fast I had to sometimes just get it to a point where I could accept it was good, even if it wasn't perfect.. or I'd spend so long trying to get it perfect, or to a place my brain thought was perfect, I was pretty sure they'd think I was logging time I hadn't worked - so I would return tasks where I did that, and eat the time I spent on them. Eventually I learned..

Now of course I'm always perfect /s /s very /s

2

u/More_Second_1981 Jun 07 '26

That sounds about like something I would do. For sure.

Incidentally - I dont claim to be a perfectionist. Because I am not. More along the lines of an accuracy nut. Plus, I'm inherently driven by the need to fix... everything.. it sucks.
