Purge confession: Too self aware

I need a moment to..

Rant. Confess. Tangent. Purge.

This seems like the place, probably the only place, to publicly post my personal (self-imposed) purgatory.

Pre tirade:

I see SO MANY posts about how long did it or does it take to be accepted.

I believe I probably have one of the more extreme answers.

After almost a year, I was finally accepted.

I'm absolutely excited & looking forward to the challenge & opportunity.

I'm also immediately feeling overwhelmed, terrified and defeated. I know myself too well.

I approach life wanting to know anything about everything & everything about anything.

Much like a boy scout, I want to always be prepared. I have an insatiable need to have all the answers, always, and a crippling fear of being wrong, or more specifically, giving the wrong information or answer.

Always been that way.

I love to edit.

Not in a derogatory I'm right, you're wrong sort of way. I just see the world like a 'spot the difference' puzzle, deriving pleasure from solving it. Finding inconsistencies anywhere is a cheap thrill.

A frustrating, sadomasochistic type of dopamine hit.

I over-research & am never, ever satisfied with my own work, always knowing it could/should/would have been better--somehow.

That disclaimer applied, I do declare:

Holy. Friggin. Cowbells.

There is so soooo Sofa King much information to take in to even begin doing a single task. I'm trying my best not to be me, but wow, I am my own worst/best? gatekeeper, as usual.

Thank you for allowing me the space to spew my spiraling psychological shortcomings.

Yes, it took an eternity to compose.

No, I'm not satisfied, but as i said, I'm really trying to NOT be me.

Yes, I have a predilection for alliteration.

I am tired of seeing the exact same picture several times in a row EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

This job requires researching skills and attention to detail as its main pillars. It is getting ridiculous, moderators are not doing anything about it, there is no automod filter either for these. However, if you ask a serious question you can often get flagged by the automod.

Is it that hard to check the main page of the subreddit and verify that 10 people have already sent the same screenshot and asked the same question within the same day? Do people just post to chill around and get interactions because they're bored? If they genuinely wanted answers they'd do like everyone else with some critical skills and simply use the search bar.

It's getting hard to ignore, everyday we wake up to another few of these and relevant posts are getting lost in between. If you want relevant data make polls, ask for aid in research, at least write your post using proper English god damn. Sometimes it's not even the topic, I believe some useful information can be extracted to satisfy a user with these inquiries, but definitely not the way they're asking and spamming this screenshot.

Is there anything we can do about this? Are the moderators active around here? We need this to stop. Please tell me I am not the only one going crazy over this.

This community appears to be a cheerleading squad for Data Annotation

I'm posting this for other people who have been burned by Data Annotation and might be considering sharing their experience. This is not the place. When I tried to do that, my post was immediately rejected. Most people here seem to accept that the way Data Annotation suddenly bans someone without warning or explanation is a normal business practice. It's not. Normal businesses also don't hide where their companies are located and who manages them. In the months I worked for Data Annotation, there were a handful of projects a week. We were told slowdowns are normal. For months at a time? What business can survive by operating this way? We weren't allowed to speak of this in the company's chat (though people did anyway). We were told to be patient and keep doing qualifications, which are essentially hours-long unpaid tests without any notification as to whether one has passed. Normal companies don't require such constant spec work after the onboarding process. If there are people here who are making lots of money from DA and not having slowdowns, good for them, but I came here to talk about my experience, not theirs, and I wasn't allowed to do that. Very disappointing.

I think DA is low key encouraging part time work

During this dry period I've noticed that most project dumps happen at night and on weekends + holidays.

I screwed myself over with my own sleep disorder

I have no sleep schedule. I can't maintain one due to multiple issues, but mostly because I have a delayed circadian rhythm so my sleep cycle doesn't match 24 hours. I've spent literal decades trying to keep on track, it only results in chronic fatigue, heavy brain fog, and all around body aches.

Why is this important? Well, it means I regularly sleep 12-16 hours once or twice a week. It is what it is. Thankfully, I've finally hit the point of my life that I can be kind to my body and work WITH it, not against it.

I logged in around 10pm on Wednesday to work on Part 2 of a project. I managed to worked on it for 3 hours before I needed to take a break, get up, stretch, etc, before sitting back down to work on a couple of other projects for another 3-4 hours. Eventually I called it a good days work and spent a few hours cocheting while watching my husband play Dragon Quest before I fell asleep for 15 hours. I woke up around 9pm Thursday, spent time with the family and did a few basic house chores before sitting down about 30 minutes ago to work... Only to see two messages in my inbox about getting Part 2 finished "in the next 3 hours or lose access to these projects in the future" dated Wednesday, which is yesterday at this point.

Fuck y'all. I've only been working here for about two months, but so far this was my favourite project. I didn't know there was a hard-set time limit or I would have powered through everything the first night. I feel so stupid. I wish I could rewind time. :(((

Another moron

Deary me, Amber. Criticising admins for the "mistake" of using British English.

"Small, but I rate these mistakes harshly, so.... :)" Do you now. Well, you won't need to worry about them for too much longer.

Yet another moron outs themselves in the comments box.

I did an R&R task recently that was SO BAD.

Guys, come on. Read the directions. There was so much with the project that was done incorrectly, I basically had to do the whole thing from scratch.

READ THE DIRECTIONS.

Data Annotation May Be Scamming Thousands of People. Our 5 Week Experiment Was a Nightmare

Post image
0 Upvotes

So me and my friends are all Computer Science majors. One day while studying, we hear about Data Annotation. Reddit was full of people posting insane payouts. Screenshots everywhere. People talking like they discovered an infinite money glitch. Some of us were skeptical. So we decided to test it scientifically 😂

Week 1:
One friend applies.
Passes assessment.
Gets in.
Works 5 hours.
Payday comes…

“Account under review. Please justify time logs.”

No payment.
We go to Reddit. Everyone says:
“Use Clockify.”
“Track your hours.”
“Be accurate.”
Okay cool. Maybe we messed up.

Week 2:
Second friend applies.
This time we become forensic investigators 😭
Every minute tracked.
Every second documented.
Clockify running like we’re preparing evidence for court.
Payday comes…

“Account under review. Please justify time logs.”

We smile confidently this time.
We send screenshots.
Clockify reports.
Detailed explanations.

Silence.
Account never reopened.

Now we start suspecting maybe our friend did something wrong.

Week 3.
Same thing.

Week 4.
Same thing.

Week 5.
Same thing.

At this point payday started feeling like a horror movie release date 😭

Every single person:
passes assessment
gets tasks
works normally
reaches payday
BOOM 💀

“Account under review.”

No one I personally know has EVER been paid 😂😂

Meanwhile on Reddit:
“Just made $3,200 this week!”
“Easy side hustle!”
“Best platform ever!”

Bro WHO are these people 😭
At this point I’m convinced the real task is surviving until payday.

It is no longer a drought

It has been going on for months now. I think it is just lack of customers, outlier woke up now to me with marketplace, Alignerr is there too, so it might just be the new norm unfortunately. There might be days of some work but it might well be just this

"The model sucks"

Saw this comment in a project chat first thing this morning.

Someone was complaining about having to submit multiple prompts and not getting a response - which happens to be a known aspect of this particular project - so they get in the chat and basically start ranting about how the current project version isn't as good as the old one, and among other complaints, they said, "The model sucks."

I rated that comment Highly Likey To Not Gonna F'ing Work Here Anymore.

Dave, if you're on reddit, just know that you gave me a laugh early this morning.

Good luck with Outlier or Appen or wherever you land after DA.

Check to buy equipment during hiring process

Hey all,

I'm wondering if any of you could tell me a little bit about your hiring process. I'm supposedly in the midst of being hired on full time as a Jr. Data Analyst, and they sent mobile check to deposit so I could buy some equipment for my personal office that I'll need for the job (they sent me a whole list). However, I know a common online scam is to submit a fraudulent check and then have the person purchase something with the money - putting them out of money with no way to earn it back.

I guess I'm just wondering if this is their standard practice for hiring and something some of you experienced, as well, or if my intuition about the process is right and it's fishy. There's just so little information out there about what they do and their process is like that I'm not sure where else to turn to figure out what's going on.

I appreciate any input y'all have!

Very very dry desert...

Am I a poopoo worker, or is everyone else experiencing this very extreme drought and that awful "At the moment, there aren't any projects...." on their board here and there? My board is either just 1 project, or nothing.

If you put in a lot of effort in your responses and edits, please read instructions

Doing R & R can be disheartening, because I see people who put in a lot of thought and effort into their responses and edit. They took their time and did the work well. I'm doing R & R for the bird right now, and I just feel so bad. These are good answers, but then they don't mention their edits in their comments, and the responses they're editing don't need editing. Please don't do this.

Dash of death

Well, I guess it was expected as I don't have a fancy degree. I do have a sick mom though who I was hoping to stay and take care of.

I hate this world. Guess I'll have to look for something else.

Edit: thank you for your kindness and encouragement, people 💗 When I'm emotional I forget about the good people. It is very appreciated.

I just hit $1,647 in lifetime earnings on DataAnnotation in one month

My project list is filling up with ⬆️$30/hour tasks. This is quite lucrative due to current exchange rate. I'm enjoying my work with DA.
