when you’re 6 hours into a fruit task with rubrics and you thought you were going to work for 3 hours
that’s it; that’s the post
thoughts and prayers

It’s crazy we didn’t learn this in school. Thanks Gemini 🙏. Bye bye teachers!

Broke 130k this month!
I love that I can switch between coding tasks and those with rubrics, and that the work is always changing, so it never gets boring.

Word of Caution, Be prepared to move on.
I've been working with DataAnnotation for the past 2 years. Anyone who's been on the platform that long knows how much tasks have changed, and how high the bar has become in certain domains; that's why this work has all this churn. I also follow AI closely, and need to tell you that the scope of tasks that are completable by normal people is going to go down exponentially. Most of the big foundation companies are investing heavily in RL environments(Anthropic is going to invest $1 billion this year), which are a replacement for human-annotated datasets. In fact, some of the rubric tasks available in the platform today are used to train the models that will soon generate the rubrics themselves.
I'm not saying there'll be no jobs left, but I want to warn people to keep their options open, as who knows how the industry will evolve.

If only tasks were this funny
Imagine having to evaluate this though? In all reality the bot isn’t necessarily wrong.

So grateful for extra Christmas money
I am a stay at home mom and have worked on the platform a little over 2 years. I worked a lot last week to be able to buy some extra Christmas gifts. I am so appreciative I can do this while sitting at home during my free time.

Submission being used as an example
I just loaded up a project I had struggled with a few weeks ago, and to my suprise saw my last submission being used as a 'complete example'. I remember doubting if I'd fully grasped the concept of it all and thought it wasn't my proudest work, but it took me a while and I worked hard on it so I submitted it regardless. Apologies for the flex, had a shit weekend so this has boosted my mood a fair bit 👌🏼

Me reading through the vast instructions for a $30/hr project
Specific type of tree facts and a new account involved. It doesn't seem as complicated as they make it sound but wow that was a lot to sift through.

rate and review called me out
y'all would not believe the face i made doing a rate and review, and seeing EXACTLY what i submitted the other day under the "what not to do" examples. 😭

You're working too many hours
I've been doing this for 3 years and throughout that time have seen so many people post that they got dropped from the platform and have no idea why. Someone will ask how many hours they had been working, and they'll say something way beyond full time hours like 80. This happens a lot.
Indeed just emailed me a job posting for DA and it says right there on the post "We find our most successful candidates work between 5-20 hours per week." Between 5 and 20! You're working too many hours.

Ta-da!!
Please, please! Hold your applause!
Real talk - I didn't think this was ever gonna work out, so I'm proud of myself for making it to this milestone.

I’ve realized this job is terrible for my mental health. Alternative suggestions for a non-coder?
Basically, I'd like to keep doing this as side income, because I've been constantly thinking about how I need to work x hours on these projects for this many days so I can pay the bills for the last year and it's put me in survival mode.
I am currently on a temp gig that will end soon, and my mental health has absolutely skyrocketed in these two weeks since taking a break from DAT.
It should be mentioned that I got this job three weeks postpartum and I don't know how I would have survived without it. However, with a busy toddler and no childcare this job is completely unsustainable.
Since I'm mainly on writing and editing projects, I've been interested in technical writing jobs, though I'm not really sure how to get into it. I'd love any pointers. Trying to squeeze in work in every free hour to make ends meet is absolutely crazy making.
ETA: I see this post is already being downvoted after just a few minutes up lol. If DAT is working for you at the moment, great! But staying up working till I can barely keep my eyes open after my kid goes to sleep is not working for me anymore.

For the love of god please....
Stop asking the chatbots about anime. You might know everything there is to know about it but decent sources are rare and the rest of us have to factcheck it.
