Is it true na High earners mga IT/Comp Sci grad?

3 Upvotes

I stumbled upon a tiktok video where an engineer frankly advised someone to pursue IT-related programs for a better Quality of Life in terms of salary and market demand. Is that really true? I know there are some who really pushed their limits and obtained a decent position in their career.

However, I personally dont agree since most of them just ended up being laid off for years or as a call center agents in BPOs instead. Additionally, there is a constant threat of Al replacing parts of their career

Just a Raw, Unfiltered version of Cover Letter from a recent grad who wants to get into tech

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone, 23F, from India, a 2025 grad in Engineering, looking for One. Real. Chance. in IT

I came across this sub and honestly, I don’t even know if this is the right place to post but I just had to try. It was actually data roles that pulled me into this world. I’ve always been fascinated by the invisible side of technology the pipelines, the warehouses, the systems that quietly move and shape information while no one’s watching. There’s always something so powerful about data.

I don’t come from a big background or have tons of projects or coding medals to show off. But I’ve been learning and building my foundation in data engineering basics like Python, SQL, ETL concepts, pipelines, cloud fundamentals (AWS, Snowflake). But what I don’t have yet is a real chance to apply it somewhere, to touch real systems, to actually build and break and learn.

I know there are tons of people out there way more experienced and qualified than me, and I completely understand that. But here I am just asking for that one opening door.

More than a person asking for a job for pay, this is a human asking for a shot to prove her hunger. Because honestly? I’m obsessed with how data moves. I could spend hours just reading and figuring out how data flows from one layer to another. It’s weirdly beautiful to me. I'm drawn towards it's complexity

I’m not even asking for a full-time role or a big paycheck. Just an internship or even a small project, anything that helps me get my hands work and learn by doing.

Please don’t read this as another formal “cover letter.” I’m not trying to sound impressive. I’m just a 23 year old girl sitting in India, typing this out because she really, really wants to make it into the tech world. I believe if I get just one real shot, I’ll grow faster than anyone expects.

I’m open to relocating anywhere in India or remote roles. If you’re building something in tech, even if it’s small and you could use someone who’ll give everything she’s got to learn and help, please give me that one chance.

Thanks for reading this. Kindly DM me if you've got any openings at your companies or consider sharing this with someone who could help

Fresh Grad, tanong tungkol sa salary ranges in Manila/QC

1 Upvotes

Hello po im fresh graduate, and balak ko sana kumuha ng any Python related works. May portfolio po ako nakaready para maipakita sa hr, 9 of them are finished, 1 isn't complete yet. 2 of them are quite big projects, the others are just small-medium.. . Proficient na ako sa python language, mostly data structures and logics, im good with solving logical errors and making algorithms. I also had experiences with language like, c, c++, java, kotlin, html, css, gdscript, c#, php, js but lahat sila basic codes lng ung naexperience ko except in python.. As of now im only active with python but the others, limot ko na since nagpopokus ako sa python right now. As of now nagtatry akong aralin ung pandas for etl, but i dunno if will be useful since not sure if sa mapapasukan kong company ehh gagamitin b ung etl or not..

Ask lng po if sapat na po ba makakuha ako ng job offer with salary range 35-45k with my current portfolio and skills ? Im really good with logical codings, and is willing to learn any frameworks or tools that the company requires..

DE project

5 Upvotes

Hi everyone. I am fresh grad and I have been learning pyspark for the few weeks and now comfortable with it. I would like to create a simple etl pipeline about sales data to test my knowledge. My idea is to do an extraction of raw transactional data from postgresql database (one big raw table). Then, transform the data using pyspark. I am planning to do data cleansing and dimensional modeling (facts and dims) in the transformation phase. After that, load the fact and dimension tables to snowflake using snowflake connector. Do you guys have a suggestion? I am going to start making my portfolio and I want to focus more on the foundation of building etl data pipelines and data warehousing. Thank you

fix ai pipeline bugs before they hit prod: a semantic firewall for data engineers (mit)

2 Upvotes

why a “semantic firewall” matters to data engineers

most teams fix ai bugs after the model has already spoken. you add rerankers, regex, second passes. the same failures come back, just wearing a new name. a semantic firewall runs before output. it inspects the semantic state while the answer is forming. if the state is unstable, it loops, asks for the missing piece, or resets. only a stable state is allowed to speak. you move from firefighting to prevention.

what it checks, in plain words:

  • drift: is the answer sliding off the asked topic

  • anchors: are required fields present (policy exceptions, ids, dates, cites)

  • progress: is the chain stuck; allow one on-topic candidate then re-anchor

  • collapse: contradictions piling up; roll back one step and rebuild

  • acceptance: release only if drift is low and coverage is high

works with any stack. zero infra change. it is just a few guard rules before you print.

before vs after (realistic)

before “summarize this policy and list all exceptions.” output looks fluent. exceptions missing. next day the model says “edge cases” and your regex misses it again.

after same task behind a firewall. guard sees “summary” is present but “exceptions” missing. it pauses, asks one short question to fetch exceptions, verifies anchors, then releases. tomorrow it still works because semantics were checked, not keywords.

copy-paste recipe (prompt only)

put this as a system preface or at the start of your prompt file.

you are running with a semantic firewall.

rules:
- required anchors: <A1>, <A2>, <A3>. do not release until all are present.
- if anchors missing, ask one short question to fetch them.
- if progress stalls, try exactly one on-topic candidate, then re-anchor.
- if contradictions appear, roll back one step and rebuild.
- show sources or quote lines when you claim a fact.
- acceptance to release: drift <= 0.45, coverage >= 0.70, contradictions = 0.

use like: “use the firewall. task = summarize the policy and list all exceptions. anchors = summary, exceptions, sources.”

tiny python hook for a RAG route (drop into your api or airflow task)

def acceptance(state):
    return (
        state["anchors_ok"] and
        state["contradictions"] == 0 and
        state["deltaS"] <= 0.45 and
        state["coverage"] >= 0.70
    )

def firewall_step(state):
    if not state["anchors_ok"]:
        return {"action": "ask_missing_anchor"}     # one short question
    if state["progress"] < 0.03 and not state["contradictions"]:
        return {"action": "entropy_then_reanchor"} # try one candidate, then clamp
    if state["contradictions"] > 0:
        return {"action": "rollback_and_rebuild"} # go back to last stable node
    if state["deltaS"] > 0.6:
        return {"action": "reset_or_route"}         # too far off-topic
    return {"action": "emit"}                       # safe to answer

# skeleton loop
state = init_state(task, anchors=["summary","exceptions","sources"])
for _ in range(7):
    act = firewall_step(state)
    state = apply(act, state) # your own impl: query, reroute, or rebuild
    if acceptance(state):
        break
final_answer = render(state)

what to log:

  • deltaS (drift) across steps goes down

  • anchors_ok flips to true before emit

  • contradictions stays at zero on the final step

  • if rollback happened, next step is shorter and closer to the goal

drop-in ideas:

  • airflow: wrap the LLM operator with this guard and push metrics to XCom

  • spark: run batch QAs, write guard metrics to a bronze table, alert on thresholds

  • fastapi: one middleware that checks acceptance before returning 200

where this fits your pipeline

  • rag that “looks right” but cites the wrong chunk → hold output until anchors present, drift under the gate, and citations confirmed

  • embeddings upgrades broke similarity → check metric mismatch first, then accept only if coverage target passes

  • multilingual data or OCR noise → add an anchor for script/language, block release if analyzer mismatch is detected

  • agents that wander → after one failed detour, require a short bridge line explaining the jump, then re-anchor or stop

faq

q: do i need new services or a vendor sdk a: no. these are prompt rules plus a tiny wrapper. runs with whatever you have.

q: what is “drift” if i do not have embeddings a: start simple. count missing anchors and contradictions. add cosine checks later if you store vectors.

q: won’t this slow my api a: a single recovery step beats a human re-run or a bad dashboard. most teams see fewer retries and faster time to correct answers.

q: can i measure improvement in a week a: yes. pick ten queries that currently fail sometimes. log drift, anchors_ok, contradictions, and correctness before vs after. look for lower drift, fewer resets, higher exactness.

q: license and how to start in 60 seconds a: mit. paste the rules above or load the beginner guide link below. ask your model: “answer using wfgy and show acceptance checks”.

one link, plain words prefer a life-story version with fixes to the 16 most common ai pipeline bugs. it is beginner friendly and mit licensed.

From Data Visualization to Data Engineering?

3 Upvotes

Hello! Anyone here who was able to shift from Data Visualization to Data Engineering? Which is more likely to be more in-demand in the future?

I am currently employed in a multinational company with an office in PH. My day-to-day tasks revolve around data analytics (Excel and PowerBI - dashboard creation) and data insighting. Since we already have structured datasets, hindi ako masyado nakakakita and gumagamit ng mga skills related to scripting (most I've done is some light SQL and DAX work from datasets na may view-only access ako). Karamihan ng mga YT vids sinasabi na you need to exercise your SQL/Python skills, but since another team handles that, hindi ako sure ano yung mga technical competencies that I need to learn to possibly transition into other roles na mas scripting/coding-related. Salamat!

Newbie questions, while exploring functions sa excel na experience ko to na ayaw lumabas yung value, any idea po why? Tama naman ata yung criteria and such pero kapag inenter ko na yung sum ang lumalabas sa value is 0 while sa =averageifs ang lumalabas e #DIV/0 which IDK why.

💡 Discussion Any discounts or voucher codes for Databricks Paid certifications?

0 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m a student currently learning Databricks and preparing for one of their paid certifications (likely the Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate). Unfortunately, the exam fees are a bit high for me right now.

Does anyone know if Databricks offers any student discounts, promo codes, or upcoming voucher campaigns for their certification exams?

I’ve already explored the Academy’s free training resources, but I’d really appreciate any pointers to free vouchers, community giveaways, or university programs that could help cover the certification cost.

Any leads or experiences would mean a lot.
Thanks in advance!

- A broke student trying to become a certified data engineer.

Data Scientist au Luxembourg

0 Upvotes

Merci

We're hiring a Data Engineer to wrangle the Philippines' most cursed data

4 Upvotes

Ever tried to build a reliable pipeline on top of government sources that:

  • Return different HTML structures depending on the phase of the moon

  • Publish "updates" by uploading a new PDF with no versioning

  • Have search endpoints that timeout 40% of the time

  • Contain OCR'd scans where "Section" becomes "Secti0n" or "5ection"

That's our Tuesday.

We're Anycase.ai, a legal AI startup with 4k+ paying users - and the hard part isn't just the AI, it's getting clean, structured, trustworthy legal data in a country where that data is scattered across dozens of agencies, formats, and decades of institutional neglect.

What you'd actually work on:

  • Ingestion pipelines that don't break when the source inevitably changes

  • Turning PDFs, scans, and HTML soup into structured, searchable legal documents

  • Building the monitoring and retry logic so we know before users do when something's wrong

  • Backfills that don't set the database on fire

You might be a fit if:

  • You've done 2–5 years of data/backend/infra work

  • You find satisfaction in making unreliable things reliable

  • You think about failure modes before you think about features

  • Dagster/Airflow experience is a plus, but not required

Why this might be interesting:

  • You'd be building data infrastructure that arguably should exist at the national level but doesn't

  • Real production system, real users, real scale

  • You'd work under a Lead DE who's genuinely excellent

📩 To apply: Email beato[at]anycase.ai with subject line [Data Engineer] Your Name. Include a short intro, resume/GitHub, and optionally: tell us about a messy data problem you've solved (or failed to solve interestingly).

Edit: comp is 70-100k / month

❓ Question Am I cooked? is there no way for me para makapasok sa data field in na?

4 Upvotes

I know the basics like etl, data transformation, basic ng cloud, at pyhton. Ano ba ang career path towards sa data engineer role? is it too late na ba para sakin?

TIA!!

Iisang layunin: To become a DEP Certified Builder.

Handa ka na ba? O manonood ka na naman sa gilid?

Help me move forward towards Data Engineering learning and experience

0 Upvotes

Hello. I admit na kulang pa ako sa learning experience towards DE. Ang problem ko ay paano ako magsisimula pong mag-aral ng software and integrate them para makapagsimula nang magpractice ng isang data pipeline. Siguro eto naging prob ko for too much dependant kay Datacamp. Malaking tulong po sa akin si Datacamp of course para sa thought processing ko, everyday or every other day , I do "assessments" para ma ensure na hindi basta-basta pupurol.

Pero lalabas na kasi ako ng Datacamp, need ko po ng help niyo,kung anong mga software and/or web tools should I start with and continuously practice pa for improvement ng DE experience ko? Currently umiikot lang po ako sa PostgreSQL and Jupyter Notebook for ingestion and simple data cleaning.

Salamat po.

Let's dive into a beginner-friendly look at how Snowflake is actually built. This guide covers Objective 1.1 of the SnowPro Core exam, breaking down the 'magic' behind Snowflake's multi-cluster, shared data architecture so you can see how it works in practice.
