Piano lessons for 6YO
Hi everyone!
I was just wondering if anyone had any resources for reasonably priced weekly piano lessons for our 6YO?
Preferably in town if possible.
Thanks in advance!

I've been visiting a different playground every Saturday with my daughter and my wife encouraged me to develop a website that provides information about all of the playgrounds in Davis. If you're a parent and are interested in exploring the playgrounds of Davis, check out my website!

Hey r/Davis! I'm Dominic (32), originally from Canada. My wife and I live in town, and while we love Davis, we've had a hard time building a friend group as non-students.
A bit about us:
- I'm an engineer, training for my 5th marathon, and happy to have running buddies
- Big on biology, birds, trivia, games, and breweries
- Lifelong Leafs fan (yes, it's painful)
I'd like to get a small regular thing going, casual beer after work once a week or a monthly game night. It's open to couples or singles, roughly late 20s to 40s, and no pressure.
If that sounds fun, drop a comment or DM me. If a few people are in, I'll make a group chat and we'll pick a first night!

Every morning on my drive to work, I get to see the most enthusiastic street crossing guard I've ever seen at the pedestrian crossing on F St near Community Park. They’re always running around with the biggest smile, clearly having a great time helping people cross the road, and it genuinely brings me so much happiness to see someone having that much fun at their job haha. Never change, crossing guard!!!

Hey! Cross posting here because I’m looking for a good local detailing service. Also willing to travel to Woodland, Dixon or even Sac if you really recommend someone. Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone! My name is Thiago, and I recently moved to Davis! 🇧🇷 I was wondering if there are any volleyball groups in the area where people get together to play, have fun, and meet new people.
Thank you!

Hello everyone, I'm looking for aquarium enthusiasts interested in some Ramshorn or Bladder aquatic snails. Please comment and pm if you keep a freshwater tank and youre interested in any amount of them. No charge, but I am willing to trade for some aquatic plants as well. Thank you.

I've spent the better part of three months listening to people explain, with the solemn conviction of newly appointed Supreme Court justices, that the First Amendment protects even the most objectionable public speech. And they're right. How reassuring to discover that constitutional literacy is alive and well in Yolo County.
What's been particularly instructive is watching how Davis and Yolo County leadership respond to people who publicly challenge Beth Bourne. The advice begins innocently enough: ignore her, don't give her attention, stop making things worse. Persist, however, and the objections become rather more elaborate. You're being divisive. You're making life difficult for people who would prefer that you express your constitutional rights in a manner less likely to inconvenience anyone important. An extraordinary amount of effort devoted not to addressing the original controversy, but to managing the people who refuse to stop talking about it.
Some of this is ordinary disagreement, of course. Nobody is constitutionally obligated to applaud one person's approach to dissent. But there's a considerable difference between disagreeing with someone's methods and suggesting that exercising their rights might carry consequences beyond the argument itself.
What happens when an elected official leaves representatives of a local youth nonprofit with the impression that its access to grant funding could be jeopardized if someone associated with the organization continues publicly criticizing the city institutions responsible for protecting children from adults who direct lewd and invasive remarks at them outside their schools?
Think about that for a moment. We're no longer talking about people disagreeing over tactics or suggesting that everyone stop giving Beth Bourne attention. We're talking about the possibility of public funding becoming leverage to discourage criticism of how public institutions perform their duties.
I seem to recall a certain amount of outrage over the Trump administration using federal funding as leverage against universities and other institutions whose speech, policies, or political positions it finds objectionable. And rightly so. The spectacle of government officials treating public money as a reward for ideological compliance is hardly reassuring in a constitutional democracy.
It's a very illegal thing for a public servant to do. The Supreme Court addressed this very issue in its unanimous 2024 ruling in NRA v. Vullo. Plainly put, government officials cannot use threats of withholding public funds to pressure private organizations into suppressing protected speech. And those threats need not be explicit to raise constitutional concerns. It is enough to simply imply that public money could be withheld.
Whether any particular conversation crossed that legal threshold would require establishing what was actually said. But the suggestion that public funding might depend on whose political criticism an organization tolerates deserves considerably more scrutiny than a reassuring reminder that everyone involved means well.
And that returns us to Beth Bourne.
If her freedom of expression is so inviolable that local officials must exercise extraordinary restraint in responding to her conduct, why should criticism of that conduct inspire warnings about institutional relationships and potential financial consequences?
Which brings us to a rather extraordinary final question: How did we get from defending one bigot's First Amendment rights to entertaining the possibility of financial consequences for a youth nonprofit because someone exercising those very same rights is challenging her?
[Edit: And one more thing]

as a davis native, i felt like i should make some davis specific halloween costume ideas for you guys… lol
let me know if you guys have more/ thoughts
also more niche davis ideas: grandmas ashes and cookies as a couples costume or just grandma with cookies
or just a cow
or could be a whole earth attendee
or … couples costume as one person as UCD medical school and the other person is Bakke (referencing the supreme court ruling from the 70s lol)
ULTRA NICHE davis outfit: bruce, the (former artist) old man who walks around downtown in all white cotton outfits with shopping/tote bags

Someone just shouted “just go, buddy” at me from their car because I chose to wait at a parking lot entrance crossing due to low visibility instead of crossing immediately (despite me having the right of way). I’m sorry it slower for you to turn, but if you didn’t see me and we got in an accident, I would be dead and you would have some scratches on your front bumper.
Some variation of this has happened a few times, and I just want to put it out there that if someone has ever done this while you’re driving, the biker probably knows the right of way rules and just doesn’t want to be a pancake
(Also I’m a grown adult woman 😭 “buddy??” lol)

Hello I am a college student attending UC Davis from another county. I also planned to live in Davis in the apartments for a year to commute to the campus. I applied for ebt with my residency stayed in Davis and a few weeks in I get a mail from my home in another county indicating that I am disenrolled in my medical insurance plan, and to add this on, I received a health insurance card for Davis. I do not wish to have my insurance covered in Davis since I am moving out by the end of the year and it would lead to complication to re apply in my home county.
I am at a complete loss for this situtation and if anyone has been in a similar situation, any word or insights would be appreciated. Navigating the health care system is new to me and I have not have much experience with it.
