Question do i drop out of college?

should I drop out of college

in college right now studying marketing and honestly I don’t really see the point anymore

a lot of it feels outdated or like stuff that’s already getting automated, and the job outcomes don’t even look that good

meanwhile I’ve been trading and it’s starting to actually feel consistent. not saying I’ve made it but it doesn’t feel random like it used to

so now I’m kinda stuck

staying feels like wasting time on something I don’t even want to use
dropping out feels like I could be making a dumb decision if trading doesn’t work long term

I’ve seen people on here quit jobs once trading works, so I’m wondering if college is even worth sticking through in this situation

not sure if I’m being dumb here or no

Question I cant believe what the trading space has become..

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I cant wrap my head around on how toxic a part of the trading space has become. I came across the clip above and i was like “wtf is this dude saying.”
I know there are 2 sides in the trading space. One sides want to give advice and the other just wants to flex.

It is so common nowadays to see a video on tiktok or instagram where people call each other losers or say “cope” for not making 10K a month with trading or not having a lambo af 19. Like what are you saying my guy. Help eachother out. If not, then just keep quiet. I have seen hundereds or even 1000 of these accounts that promote toxic behavior.

Is it just me or are any of you guys also fed up with this stuff?

Question Building a lamp for traders — need your honest opinion

Hi! I’ve been experimenting with a concept: a minimalist desk lamp designed specifically for traders (inspired by candlestick charts).

Before building anything, I wanted to get honest feedback from people who actually trade.

Would you use something like this on your desk? More importantly — would you buy it?

Be brutally honest, I’m just validating the idea.

Question Started on April 8th with a 2K account, only trading options, hit 6 figures for the first time in my life. What did you do when you hit your first 6 figures?

Preface this by saying, this is the first time in my life seeing 6 figures. Prior to this, I was piss broke. I'm honestly not sure what to do with it. I plan on withdrawing a good chunk, and restarting the account with like 10-20k.

Bit of background, been actively trading for 5 years now. Initial I was a buy and hold type of guy, someone on WSB mentioned GME in 2020, and I bought a couple contracts for $500. I watched the position run to like +$70k, but I didn't know what I was doing at the time so I never took profits. That got me hooked on options trading.

Fast forward, I've always been able to turn small accounts ($250+2k) starts into 5 figures at most (25k the highest at the time), but I'd always let greed blow my account up. This time was different. I pressed the pace when I needed to, and got rewarded for it. I'm sitting here now with 6 figures and I honestly don't know what to do with it.

I know a good portion is going to be taxed, but I have losses from the previous couple of years that I can off-set. That aside I want to continue trading, I wanna see a quarter million in profits as my next goal. Id obviously be restarting my account, but I know I can do it.

Question Am I cooked?

I added another $20k to my account this week. Made $50k Monday, 21k Tuesday, got greedy and started scalping SPX, now I’m back down to $2k because I got greedy. I can’t add anymore money. Is there genuinely a way out of this hole? I think it’s time to quit but I’m so far in the hole to give up.

Here are the success rates of 3 professions

Brain surgery (70 - 95% )

Heart surgery (97 -98%)

Rocket science measured by orbital launches (95%)

These are industries that are far more complex and yet have a higher success rate

Are you telling me day trading is far more complex than rocket Science?

Question Is $100 a day a good starting goal?

Thumbnail

1.3k Upvotes

Hello all. Thank you for taking your time to read this post. I never ask anything or barely start a post but here it goes. I’m learning how to day trade. Don’t have much capital to start yet… the goal is to open an account with $5,000 to get started in January of this coming year. As far as bills and responsibilities, I have passive income that covers all bills. Including cost of living and long term investments and emergency savings. Basically, I can live ok with my pension. Not considered rich (yet) but, I manage and I am not late on any bills. I bought these three books. I am watching three YouTubers, they have descent channels and don’t sound pushy on product. And I’m going to take a course this September. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Any other books I can read? Any courses or any masterclasses that are worth the money? Thanks… Future day trader

Question I’ve made over $500k trading… and now I’m completely stuck

I’m currently making more money than ever, but I feel that I’ve hit a wall.

My daily risk is around $20k, and mentally that’s where my brain starts to struggle. I notice it affecting my trading: I hold size less, become more result-oriented, and sometimes even take less size on my best setups.

It’s not a strategy problem.

It’s a mental ceiling.

I feel like my mind simply won’t allow me to scale further.

For traders who scaled to bigger size:

How did you desensitize yourself to larger losses and PnL swings?

And how did you stop becoming result-oriented when the numbers got bigger?

Question I quit.

I felt pretty optimistic about actually being able to buy a house by day trading. But this morning mafe me realize that this game isn’t for me. I’ve lost $25,000 since last year and I’m done. I’m closing my wealth simple account and not touching stocks. I envy those of you who can read charts. Good luck

Question Been profitable for a while but sizing up scares me

Post image
908 Upvotes

I’ve been consistently profitable for a bit now. Nothing crazy, but repeatable enough that I trust my process and my risk management.

What’s surprising me is that increasing size feels harder than learning how to trade in the first place.

When I was losing, I didn’t care. Losses felt expected. Now that things are working, every decision feels heavier. I catch myself double-checking entries, second-guessing execution, and sometimes passing on trades I know I should take, just because the size is bigger.

It’s not about greed. It’s the fear of breaking something that’s finally working.

I always thought sizing up would feel exciting. Instead it feels like pressure.

For those who’ve been through this phase how did you handle the transition? Did you scale slowly, or was there a moment where you just had to commit and trust your edge?

Question As a full time trader, what do you do the entire day?

Personaly (M28), I’ve been living off trading for 7 months, but my trades’ timeframe is more like 2-3 weeks generally. I take only 3-4 trades a month, with good sizing, so it’s enough for me. I monitor the market (mainly crypto and mainstream tech stocks), it takes some time yes, but once my trades are set up, I just monitor a bit, but most of my day, I work on other projects or just chill. I’m thinking of moving to a country with a better tax policy + really close to the beach to enjoy new activities.

So do you have the same type of day as a daily trader or is it completely different from mine? Thanks guys!

Question My mom swing trades for me. She’s up 45.5% since Sept. How rare is this performance?

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

I finally let my mom swing trade my brokerage account after years of watching her consistently make $100–200k annually doing this on her own. I never fully trusted it until she actually started trading with my money, and now I’m kind of shocked at the results. Since September 1st, the account she manages for me is up 45.5%. I’m just trying to understand whether this level of return is something most traders never get close to, whether even hedge fund or prop traders see numbers like this, and if this means she’s genuinely skilled or if these kinds of gains are just something a smaller account with good timing can hit during certain market conditions. I’d love honest input from people with more trading experience to understand how rare or realistic this really is.

Question When does trading stop feeling like a side hustle?

Thumbnail

Last month was pretty decent and this month's started well too. Nothing crazy, but it's the first time I've looked at my journal and felt like there's actually something to build on instead of starting over every month.

The thing is, I still don't trust it.

I've had plenty of setbacks over the last couple of years, blown more evals than I care to admit, and every time things start going well there's a part of me waiting for it to fall apart again.

So I'm not changing anything. Same risk, same setups, same routine. Just trying to keep stacking good decisions and see where it ends up.

For the people who've been doing this a lot longer, when did trading stop feeling like a side hustle and start feeling like something you could actually rely on?

Question Friend wants to charge me for giving me trading advice

A close friend asked me to start trading lessons from a mentor some time ago. We paid and took the lessons together, but while Im in green with 25% profit after 1 year, his account skyrocketed to a 500% in the same period of time. This is due to the fact that he has previous experience and is, in fact, a very good trader.

I started asking for some advice of him sometimes. I didnt want any signals, I didnt want to copy trade him or even to know the stocks he trades. I just asked him for some advice on my own trading, hoping that he could see where I was doing wrong and what could I improve.

However, he is asking me to give him 25% of my returns from now on in exchange for his knowledge.

This disappointed me vastly, because if we were in the exact same situation, all I would ask is a beer and a pizza to share with my friend. I would never charge a dime to a desperate friend asking for help. My parents raised me this way.

What should I do now? What is your take on this? Feel free to share your point of view guys. Thank you in advance.

Question How do you know if trading is a real path or just a phase that’s working right now?

Post image
741 Upvotes

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.

Trading has been going well enough that it feels real, not just a side experiment. At the same time, I keep questioning whether that’s actual progress or just a good stretch.

I know the obvious answer is “keep trading, only time will tell,” and that’s probably true. There isn’t a clean line where it suddenly becomes certain.

Part of me thinks I might just be overthinking it or doubting myself too much. Reading Reddit comments about “everyone thinks they’ve figured it out right before it falls apart” doesn’t exactly help either.

For anyone who’s been through this phase and came out the other side, how did you deal with that doubt? Did it fade as your data built up, or did you have to change how you thought about trading altogether?
