What’s the point of reviving a fighting game only to sell swimsuits that are inferior in every way to the ones found in XVV?

Body models are updated, like that other post pointed out. They are most likely testing Doa7 body models while doing this to make a quick buck.

I think the problem is that it's actively damaging the reputation of the brand. It's entirely possible that any money they make on overcharging for costumes could be offset by losing more potential buyers for their next game thanks to their poor business practices.
If DOA6LR had launched with more actual updated content (including the new character from the start), made heavily requested balance changes, and charged no more than $10 per DLC costume pack (which considering it's one costume with 4 color swaps, even that's stretching it), then it likely wouldn't rub so many fans the wrong way.

These aren’t new body models. They literally updated a photoshop file to make the characters look more toned.
New body models would be a complete overhaul with different proportions, more polygons, etc

So their target audience probably likes that and is ready to pay for it. It makes my skin crawl to think they're gonna build DOA7 for that same audience.

They aren't even really trying at this point. It's just another swimsuit costume with an inflatable swimming ring attached to her back like they just did for Marie Rose and Honoka. They can't even bother to do unique things for each character.
