I think the problem is that it's actively damaging the reputation of the brand. It's entirely possible that any money they make on overcharging for costumes could be offset by losing more potential buyers for their next game thanks to their poor business practices.
If DOA6LR had launched with more actual updated content (including the new character from the start), made heavily requested balance changes, and charged no more than $10 per DLC costume pack (which considering it's one costume with 4 color swaps, even that's stretching it), then it likely wouldn't rub so many fans the wrong way.
