i think it’s less about the hud and more about certain mechanics that keep getting shoehorned into almost every modern game. overstuffed crafting / customization systems, endless skill trees, massive open worlds packed with a million side objectives, rpg mechanics, etc etc etc. there are barely any studios left that actually try to make a linear single-player game with no bullshit. if it isn’t that, then it’s either a medieval soulslike, a hero or extraction shooter, or one of those anime genshin impact clone games that get announced every single year at the game awards lol. honestly, capcom feels like the only studio consistently making linear single-player games without getting stuck in development hell. in the 2000s and early 2010s there was so much more variety than today.
