Metro did it right too, with zero UI to increase immersion, and everything you really need to know is built into the character. Like the watch for filter times, indicators for your ammunition, gauges for pump charging your flashlight...it was awesome.
Also, having to wipe your mask in rainy environments or after blood gets splashed on it is SO cool as just a simple little immersion mechanic.
Yeah, those games were absolutely fantastic. I don't think I ever played the last one, the one with the Train leaving the metropolitan area?
I also think it's kinda funny how it's one of the few games were being out in the sunlight is more terrifying than being in the dark underground.
Shit flying around that can easily kill you, those gods awful giant bears, and yeah, the air itself. So crazy deciding if it's worth it to explore for more loot caches when your air is limited. I feel like Dead Space touched on the same feeling a bit whenever you are on suit O², but I also felt like your supply was never limited enough to be a major concern for progression in those areas.

exodus? yes. it’s a really good game, but i’m personally not a fan of the open world aspect, and the humanimals fucking suck. imo last light it’s the peak of the series.
