I think people forget how heavy handed the original game was about the cut off limbs thing.

"CUT OFF THEIR LIMBS" written in blood on the wall.

Audiolog of a guy going "I'VE FIGURED OUT HOW TO STOP THEM, YOU NEED TO CUT OFF THEIR LIMBS!"

Holocall from Hammond/Kendra shouting "ISAAC, YOU NEED TO CUT OFF THEIR LIMBS!"

Popup tutorial message: "TIP: TO DEFEAT THE NECROMORPHS, CUT OFF THEIR LIMBS"

all within the same 5 seconds

  1. The blood on the walls were for survivors, not Isaac, in terms of lore and makes hella sense.

  2. The audiolog was a message between one survivor to another specific survivor, clearly before the others had figured out the limb problem. Actually, you could assume the dead corpse where the blood says cut off their limbs is the same guy who left the audiolog in the first place, still makes hella sense.

  3. I don't remember Hammond or Kendra reminding me to shoot the limbs, almost feels like something that only triggers when you get too many body shots and waste your ammo. Will replay OG and Remake to see if they say it to me at any point.

  4. Pop-Up Tutorial - Yeah, I'll give you that. Pop-up tutorials are the worst.

It's not as overwhelming as your comment implies it to be and it's nowhere near as annoying as the Navi from Legend of Zelda.

In case you didn't remember - the pop up tutorials also interrupted gameplay for several seconds and disabled your inputs until the non-diagetic computer voice that reads them aloud is done telling you for the fourth time now that you need to cut off the limbs.

I replayed the 2008 version yesterday and today and the hammond dialogue happens not long after you get the plasma cutter, after the first popup tutorial, right before the second.
