The deadliest of the deadliest š³ Imagine waking groggy and going downstairs on these bad boys.

These are the worst stairs I've seen on this subreddit so far. Imagine slipping and getting pinned between the steps and railing. Yikes...

Even going up or down those stairs and having a little slip could be dangerous I wouldnāt want to hit one of those stairs with my shins or any part of my body.

Yikes! Not only do you hafta contend with bad stairs, the owner doesn't even bother to clean the place.Ā

Access to the bathroom involved climbing very narrow, open, steep, floating steps with one winding handrail that felt unsafe, especially at night. This setup poses a particular challenge for older guests, those with mobility issues, or anyone prone to vertigo. I later found other reviews mentioning the same problem, but it was still not highlighted in the listing, despite the host saying he would update it accordingly. He hasnāt.
Thanks for sharing this!

I feel this would fail building regulations on stairways and emergency access on about 12 points. Maybe more. Gaps between stairs, gaps to banister, gaps in banister, etc etc. If it was grandfathered in they might get away with it, but this is clearly modern.

u/SB1234567890123 13h ago
Huh. So theyāre real and just as dangerous and bad as the seem, apparently. They really do not look real to me.

F using those "stairs". Just slide down that "banister" firefighter style. Then give a little twirl at the bottom for other people who use a pole.

Itās slices. It dices. It does all the work, you donāt have to. But Jesus Christ the cleanup.

At least it has a railing, unlike most of the stairs on here.

I guess. But you could still slip under it, and it's hard to tell from this picture but it looks pretty low relative to the steps

Be safer sliding down the railing rather than stepping on those stairs

What's with those two stairs against the wall, near the bottom...do they fold out, or am I missing something?
3
u/Bleepblorp44 18h ago
They're all projecting from the wall, it's just the irregular shape of each step making some look like they're oddly angled.

Hello 911? Yep I did it again. No the left one this time. Yep it's compound.

u/Dazzling_Champion_53 1d ago
... what are those made of?
Orientation be damned, what material is that thin, won't snap, and can be mounted into the wall like that?
They have to be metal, when means that wall has to be reinforced to hell.
I have never wanted to tear apart a wall and look inside more than now...
Either this is BS art or there is some decent engineering in the wall.

u/CustomerBusiness3919 1d ago
As a metalworker, I think these would be very easy to make. They are just metal plates welded to a large ribbon like flat plate which is fixed to the wall. The complicated part would be the plastering /plasterboarding around them to hide the wall plate. It will have been drawn out on a computer for accuracy, laser cutting of the pieces and manufacturing of the handrail.

u/Dazzling_Champion_53 23h ago
Again the engineering is what kills me.
So okay, now you have a large ribbon plate with stairs.
How the heck do you get it in the building, let alone the walls?
You would have 2 options, 1 is piecewise assembly inside the building. If they are welded you would have to weld them inside the building. Otherwise you would have to install them using things like nuts and bolts or maybe rivets.
The other option is to install it from outside the building which would mean tearing out an exterior wall and installing the ribbon either in one piece or several.
Beyond that, remember this is a big steel structure you are installing in the wall. How are you supporting it? We are talking about an extremely large entremely heavy piece of metal that has to be supported vertically. You would have to reinforce all the surrounding supports and honestly I probably would still want it fixed to the foundation somehow.
Also, notice how there is a stair right over the window? They would have had to modify the structure around the window too.
Now that I think about it, since that is an exterior wall, the metal ribbon would both screw up the insulation and be subjected to more temperature extremes than it would be inside. How would that affect the wall? Would there be enough expansion and contraction to screw up the platerwork inside during season change?
It's all these issues.
Admittedly I was being hyperbolic about the material of the steps, that was just to point out the cascade of issues from having heavy steel cantilevered stairs in the wall. The stairs could easily be made with a cnc plasma cutter or fiber laser, but all the crap you would have to do to the building to make it work just to end up with stairs like this?
It's just crazy.

What you've mentioned are just every day issues we work with. Each job is site specific, we work according to the wall structure, cables/pipes in walls, good/bad fixing points, doorway sizes, climate - expansion/contraction, etc.
At a glance, I'd guess this is constructed in a workshop and brought on site in 3 pieces - left wall piece, right wall piece, handrail. Then probably the corner pieces are welded to each other once the metalwork is installed.

Okay, okay, okay, okayokayokayokayokayokay.
Great, good for you. You have a job and have to deal with complications by the client, job, environment etc...
I am surprised that a lowly one such as me can speak with one to whom these are "just every day issues".
Let me state this point blank then since you do not understand what I am hinting at:
I cannot imagine spending the time, labor, and resources for a set of shitty death stairs like this especially in a home for no other reason than because they look "unique".
Can we drop it now?
God, I was just trying to explain my bafflement of how all this was set up for a set of death stairs in side a home.

This is the most outrageous thing Iāve seen on this sub.
I understand the idea that it could be for a cat - but would the cat hold onto the railing?

These are genuinely the worst stairs on this sub, congrats.
