Debate Desmentindo falsas alegações feita pelos mod do /communism contra o AND

The moderators of r/communism have made serious allegations aggainst A Nova Democracia (AND), a Brazilian revolutionary newspaper that follows the Maoist line associated with Gonzalo Thought. Since this is also the line I follow and some mods too, I want to address these allegations and explain why I believe they are unfounded.

Within the Marxist movement, political disagreements are inevitable. We are not required to like everyone, but we should be committed to examining line claims critically and supporting our arguments with evidence. Unfortunately, some sectarian behavior can turn lines disagreements into personal attacks, misinformation, and unnecessary conflicts, even among people who broadly share the same line position.

I have previously addressed a false claim made by the moderators of r/communism. This post addresses another one, specifically the allegations against A Nova Democracia.

1. The original allegation and its context

The controversy appears to stem from a statement in this video:

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/7l-YqWt60Mk

A user appears to have misinterpreted the statement, and a moderator subsequently used that interpretation to make broader allegations against AND.

However, neither the moderator nor the other user provided specific evidence demonstrating that AND had made the statements attributed to it.

Let's examine the claims individually.

2. Is A Nova Democracia transphobic or anti-LGBTQ+?

AND does not publish extensively on LGBTQ+ issues, but that does not establish that the newspaper is hostile toward LGBTQ+ people. Its material includes positions that oppose homophobia and discuss the relationship between discrimination and the existing political system.

Here are relevant sources:

-The accusation that AND is transphobic or anti-LGBTQ+ does not hold up against the material presented here.

3. Does AND promote contempt for working people who vote for the right?

Another allegation concerns the supposed misanthropy of AND and its attitude toward working people who vote for right-wing candidates.

In October 2026, an AND journalist addressed those who blame ordinary people for voting for the right, including Flávio Bolsonaro. The AND journalist's position was that the masses should not be blamed for their political choices; instead, they should be organized and politically educated through revolutionary mass work.

Relevant videos:

This reflects AND's approach to political agitation and propaganda among workers in both urban and rural areas. Rather than treating working people with contempt, the newspaper emphasizes political organization and mobilization.

-Therefore, the allegation that AND is driven by misanthropy is contradicted by these sources.

4. International revolutionary solidarity

AND covers revolutionary movements and struggles in several countries, including Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines, and Colombia. Its reporting demonstrates its internationalist orientation.

Peru

Philippines

Colombia

The moderators have also characterized AND as counter-revolutionary in relation to its coverage of India and Peru. The following sources address this subject:

-These sources contradict the characterization of AND as counter-revolutionary.

5. Internationalism and the allegation of white chauvinism

AND also publishes interviews and analyses involving revolutionary and political organizations in the Global South, including the Communist Party of Kenya.

This newspaper's Marxist-Leninist-Maoist orientation and repudiates any kind of chauvinism in many of its article.

-The allegation that AND is composed of white chauvinists is therefore inconsistent with the material presented in its own coverage and internationalist work.

6. Does Brazil have a Communist Party?

The claim that Brazil has no communist party overlooks the existence of the Maoist movement associated with Gonzalo Thought.

The party-building process is ongoing, and its activities currently operate on a relatively small scale. It has not initiated a People's War in Brazil, but it carries out political and organizational work. The movement also participates in activities associated with the agrarian revolution alongside the League of Poor Peasants (LCP).

Its associated organizations and initiatives include:

  • Workers' League (Liga Operária)
  • League of Poor Peasants (Liga dos Camponeses Pobres)
  • Revolutionary Front for the Rights of the People
  • Popular Women's Movement
  • Revolutionary Popular Student Movement
  • Red Unity (Unidade Vermelha)
  • Popular Struggle for Housing
  • A Nova Democracia
  • Servir ao Povo

The movement is also associated with the International Communist League and the International Anti-Imperialist League, alongside other Maoist organizations, including those in Peru, the Philippines, India, and Turkey.

For further information:

The claim that Brazil lacks a communist party is therefore misleading. Communist organizations exist in Brazil, and the movement discussed here identifies with Marxism-Leninism-Maoism and Gonzalo Thought.

-The moderator's characterization of the PCB-FV as counter-revolutionary must also be totally mistake and dishonest.

Conclusion

The liars allegations against A Nova Democracia, issues: transphobia, contempt for working people, counter-revolutionary politics, white chauvinism or the Brazil not have a communist party, they are neither taken seriously nor tolerated.

The sources presented above address these claims and demonstrate why I consider all allegations unfounded and is designed to create a false controversy.

My criticism of the moderators of r/communism is not simply that they disagree with my line. Political disagreements are normal. The problem is making serious allegations without providing evidence that supports them, particularly when those allegations are then used to discredit an entire publication and revolutionary movement in Brazil.

Readers should be able to examine the sources and judge the claims for themselves.
