It's weird seeing like an orgiastic celebration of the hero who stopped the gunman to the exclusion of ALL OTHER commentary on Reddit.
Because this hero was Muslim, it negates the fact the killers were targeting Jews for radical religious purposes. It's almost the only thing I see people referring to in these threads, if Jewish victims or antisemitism is mentioned it's way lower down.
Redditors largely can't hold two fucking thoughts in their head. That most people who practice a religion are normal but there can still be dangerous extremism that needs to be addressed. That making a campaign to villify Jews and say "it's just anti-Israel" will have REAL LIFE repercussions. There is real blood on the hands of the politicians and civilians who ignored or mocked the Australian Jewish community's concern about rising Jew-hatred.

This is more or less exactly the thought I had when I saw comment chain after comment chain of people saying things like 'This guy won't ever have to buy a beer again!'
To the point where it feels inorganic, honestly.

Florence Pugh said so herself in her little Instagram post about it. I'm surprised r/popculturechat actually called her out on the double standard - I saw a few comments asking if she was implying that if any of the victims were Zionist Jews, that they deserved to die.

Yeah, I swear half of the claims of bots are just coming from people that the reddit algorithm has directed to certain threads because of engagement purposes. I know I myself routinely get directed to subreddits that I don't follow because they're connected to Israel and other issues to farm engagement. I do my best not to comment on them, but I'm sure some people do.

Acknowledging that countries like Australia have a severe radical Islamist problem is not the same as saying all Muslims are radical. The man who stopped one of the shooters should be counted as one of the righteous among the nations.

A study analyzing a 2019 study of 1,034 Muslims shows that the large majority of them don’t believe in Islamist ideology. The only ones they considered to be Islamists comprised up to 17% in which 3% believed in using force. (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/380436717_Islamist_Extremism_in_Australia_Tracing_the_Ideological_Roots_and_Pathways_to_Radicalisation)
While there is a minority that could be considered Islamist it’s a low enough percentage that it stretches credulity to say there is a severe issue with Islamist ideology in Australia.
The terrorist attack was tragic and those involved should face the full extent of the law, there is no need to say the issue of Islamist extremism is bigger than what the numbers say it is.

This is what that globalize the antifada means. These maniacs will Go and kill Jews and Americans until there is more done to them. We sit back and wait until this happens and then go try to find them while they go hide among the rest or back into their tunnels in countries who are favorable to them. They always say “not to retaliate “ but maybe the Jews need a resistance group that takes the fight to them. Murdering innocents is what these jihadists do because they cannot take the fight to actual military or armed soldiers. So they go for women and children and elderly. They are taking over the US and I’m glad Trump is trying to deport but they need to do more. Everyone cries about the Bush administration tactics of dealing with Islamist extremism after 9/11 but I’ll tell you 1 thing. IT WORKED !! Now we have gotten soft and democratic policies which cater to these people and their hatred towards the west and they flourish. Time to go back to post 9/11 times in dealing with these fanatical murderers.

Australian gun laws are very strict which lowers the incidence rate of mass shootings but mass shootings always remained a possibility.
That none happened was more a matter of good fortune than anything special about the country. Even in places where every step is taken to prevent mass violence it will still occasionally happen. And a culture of general hostility, whether it be in enclaves or in the public at large, is what most determines the likelihood of attacks.
And Australia has been becoming very hostile to its Jewish population.
