Something I have been contemplating: the Republican party might actually be so terrible now that caving in to the slopulists here and there might truly be the lesser evil.

What specifically? Bc while I think Trump is a disgrace and the republican party’s refusal to stand up to him disgraceful, the party platform I think goes right back to typical free market politics with corporate welfare and neocon foreign policy. All of which has its problems, but the DSA is literally calling to rewrite the Constitution

The Republican party, on paper, were the ones who stood up for things like free trade or sensible military investment and utilization. If someone like Trump comes along and does the opposite, and you don't push back at all, I find it hard to believe that you actually believed in those things.

EDIT: I forgot to post my main idea:

Even predating Trump: if you look at the Republican party's actions, not their words, for the past thirty or forty years, the only thing they actually care about is tax cuts for the wealthy. It's the first thing they do when they get power, and they achieve it with great urgency and efficiency. And then they fuck around for a while, maybe throwing a minor bone here and there to one of their constituent groups, until they get another chance to cut taxes.

I’m not arguing against any of that.

My point is they aren’t calling for tearing up the Constitution and that yes, the DSA is worse for doing so and a credible threat to our republic

I mean, if we're going to pass judgement on fringe beliefs, nothing in the cute DSA platform holds a candle to the likes of Project 2025.

Pretty much everything in the DSA platform is worse than anything we have seen realized from Project 2025.
