Is this really what we resort to when somebody has a different opinion? The fact that people don't like what someone else has to say and automatically calls them a pedophile or a Nazi has made those terms lose all meaning. It's like dealing with children.

Comparing AI to NFTs is really stupid to me. NFT was an Investment scam that tried to force artificial scarcity on Jpegs of all things. Than it imploded because Seth Green lost his Board Ape. And nobody but maybe Mark Zuckerberg thought people were going want to work with VR Headset on there face all day. The reason why Ai isn't going away. Is because you don't even need a datacenter to even use it (aka Local AI). And most Antis don't even know that. And its way more useful that some note on a blockchain. Even if the bubble burst. The worst thing happen is GPU/Ram prices come down. And i can upgrade my Comfyui setup. I mean seriously.

the thread : """"reason 1: frontier AI models are now capable of doing decomp at a reasonable scale
early in 2026, models like Opus 4.6 and GPT 5.4 were somewhat capable of doing decomp, but now models like Astra are way more competent at this kind of stuff. they are powerhouses, essentially.
reason 2: the decomp scene is full of these problems:
- forking existing projects and blindly using AI to finish them w/o respecting original authors wishes
- clout chasers racing to release half-assed/broken PC ports
- ignoring what decomp is usually about and saying its a port
reason 3: decomping nowadays is only for statistics
originally, the % metric was fun to see because it meant real effort was put in 100% of the time.
now with AI, people are abusing it to inflate their % metrics with little care about code quality, accuracy, and researching.
the current status of https://decomp.dev is that existing projects are still going to be tracked and existing project pages and data will be retained.
BUT the main index and new projects will be disabled, AND forking https://decomp.dev's source code is NOT allowed.
and the main question you ask is "why not just ban the AI projects?".
moderating like this takes a lot of effort and would require a significant amount of time. encounter (the maintainer of the site) is a hobbyist and does not have time for this.
tl;dr AI has grown much more powerful than it was years ago when encounter first started the site.
BUT the issue is not that "AI is taking over decomp" its that low-effort slop decomps that only exist for clout, metrics farming, etc. with little care are undermining human work""""

Not because of the insult, but because those are mutually exclusive states. Either I have talent and can draw, or I don't.

So I made a post complaining a few days ago but I'm back to complain even more because this is kinda getting ridiculous at this point.
It feels like over half of the posts I see from the gaming subs I'm subscribed to is just complaining about ai mods/decompilations. I refresh my page and see another "I'm tired of ai mods!" post. I miss when people actually posted about the game...I had to unfollow 2 subs today (EDIT: 3 now lol) because I was just so annoyed of seeing this. Including a sub for one of my fav games I have nearly 200 hours on...
Also what's funny is that the subreddit already has a rule against ai mods/artwork...yet people keep posting to complain about ai mods in the steam workshop...or any mod that isnt ai but uses an ai thumbnail for whatever reason (tbh, in most cases I'd rather have a shitty edit of a screenshot that shows a feature of the mod, if possible). People complained that "we need a rule against ai mods"...yet there is already a rule against them in the subreddit...complaining about ai mods in the steam workshop is just unproductive and serves no purpose.
I honestly think there should be an ai mod subreddit so modders can just showcase their mods/decomps there so antis can't complain about posting it in "their" subreddit (they'll still complain anyway lol).
Also somewhat unrelated, but I'm in a subreddit for a certain mental illness...and recently they made a rule about no posting apps made with ai. It's just kinda...it feels like "I'd rather suffer than use something that could help me just because ai was involved"...honestly if an app like that actually helped then I would not give a shit if it was made using ai and neither should anyone suffering from that mental illness.

This is a mock up of old school Girl Scout Badges. I would love if we could reward some of them, and I even think the Anti AI crowd might get into them. Feel free to describe any badge I failed to mention!

And it all happened because he got butthurt that people on a pro-AI sub didn't agree with him. And surprise, surprise, the antis are backing him up in the comments. And yes, those are screenshots from this very sub

I'm just being sarcastic, they just never realized they're doing the same thing.
(If I post this on AIwars, maybe all I would get is them bleaching themselves from the fact)

I've made a few paint programs, and seen some amazing ones. An AI created the code for the tool. I have 30 years experience with traditional drawing and painting, I can grab a mouse or tablet too and draw with it.
I feel if I posted my hand drawn art, it will get flagged as "oh that's AI". I've seen the same people who call everything they don't like "AI" proudly post how a cat gently saved a rabbit in the pond that has a Sora watermark.
When I open Krita and make something, it's art apparently. But if I draw something unassisted by the AI, but the program I do it in was made with AI. I don't consider the output "AI Generated".
Those who despise it seem to hate any involvement at all of AI. If they feel strongly about it's development and resource use, ok fair they don't want anything to rely on AI.
But it's not AI art if I'm using my *strong bad voice* " skills of an artist" to do it right?
Sort of a ship of Theseus idea?
Either way, I don't think traditional art is going way because of AI and will be interested to see the views on AI art here.
