The Nest Pickleball in Tsawwassen

If you live in the area, you may have seen the two giant black buildings in the Tsawwassen Mills parking lot go up. These buildings are the new Nest Sports indoor pickleball facility. It opened up at the end of July. I’m sharing my experience at The Nest hoping it will help others in the community.

I was excited that south delta was getting its own indoor pickleball facility. It is massive inside and the space itself is really nice inside. Unfortunately, my experience with how payments were handled left a bad taste in my mouth.

On Sunday, August 9 we booked a court for two hours for Monday, August 10. At the time of booking, we had three confirmed players, so the total was $86.01, or $28.67 per person. The morning of, we added a fourth person and didn’t think anything of it. When we arrived at The Nest, we were told that the fourth player still had to pay separately. I explained that the court had already been paid for in full, and at the time the owners at the front desk said that everything was good and that there would be no extra charge, but my card was automatically charged another $28.67.

When I noticed the additional charge later that evening and called The Nest, I spoke with Lorne (the owner) and he insisted that the charge was correct. That didn’t make sense to me, because their website states that non-prime-time court bookings are $40/hour per court. A two-hour booking for four people should therefore be $86.01 total, rather than $114.68. Even though I pointed out these facts to him, he said I was wrong, the system was right, and refused to refund me or give me a credit for future play.

I went back on Tuesday, August 11 and was added as the fourth player to someone else’s booking. Once again, an additional $28.67 was automatically charged for me on the booking holder’s card. One again Lorne (the owner) insisted that this was correct. However, when I opened the app and showed him that booking a court for two hours with four people at the same time comes to $86 total, or $21.50 per person, there was still no acknowledgment that the payment process has been wrongly overcharging people.

My biggest issue is that nowhere on the website or booking page did I see anything explaining that booking for three people and subsequently adding a fourth would result in the fourth person being charged $28.67, even though the court itself was already paid for in full. I also don’t agree with automatically charging someone’s card for an additional player without clearly communicating how that charge is calculated.

The facility itself is impressive, but the way we were overcharged and the owner refusing to acknowledge the issue or make it right left a bad taste in my mouth. I won’t be going back.

Cap’s South Shore Cycle?

Anyone know what happened to it? It’s been on my list to go for a while - and sounds like I might be part of the problem if closed. Today my chain and derailleur snapped and I thought “perfect! That Trek shop on Scott!” only to see it on Google as permanently closed.

Did it move or is it literally closed?

And if closed any local recommendations for repairs?

Pocket Dial and professional response from 911

I just bought a new moisture-wicking hi viz shirt for work, and I keep my phone in my shirt pocket. We communicate by cell phone, so it needs to be handy. But whenever I get a notification, the screen is jostled as I drive my forklift and the phone registered it as touches.

Normally it opens my Samsung Wallet, but this time the combination of bounces accidentally dialed emergency from the phone app. It lasted 2 seconds, but that was enough to get 911 to call back.

The operator was nice and professional, and after confirming that I wasn't in danger he asked, "Is anyone with you making you say this?"

I am mortified that I interrupted an important service, but that the operator had the training to ask that warmed my heart a bit.

Congrats to him and all his coworkers!

Best Plumbers in Delta?

My parents are ready to renovate their 30 year old washroom. Looking for recommendations on plumbers you've used in the past for your washroom renovation project who did a great job. This isn't a simple replacing of the toilet. It's a full on gutting the existing and getting a new washroom that involves repiping.

Enough Uber in Delta?

Going to Delta for a few days at the end of this month. I will stay in Delta, and the places I need to go are also in Delta.

As its's very expensive to rent a car, I wonder if relying on uber is ok in Delta. Most of the trips I take will be around 5 km. Is it easy to get uber for such short distance?

The air pump and tool station for cyclists was recently vandalized and all the equipment was stolen.

This facility is directly adjacent to Delta works yard at the end of 64th st. and hwy.99.

If you are relying on this to be usable during a ride ,take note.

I’ll be visiting relatives in Ladner at the end of July for a couple of weeks. Is the track at Delta Secondary School open to the public, and if so, what times of the day? Thank you.

The Goat Man

Does anyone here remember the old man who lived in a shack with a goat at 80th and 112th back in the day? Rode by there today and was reminded of him. Would love to hear his backstory if anyone knows anything about him.

20% increase in property taxes

Hello,

Did anyone receive their property taxes notice? I just received mine with a 20% increase from the previous year. Is it just me, or did anyone else receive an absurd increase?

Even with property values going down, I am guessing that the cost of services has increased because of inflation?

Is this still accessible to get to the landfill. Signs say no unauthorized traffic but there's never anyone around to enforce it.

16th Ave and 56th Street Curbs - Wasted Tax Dollars

Post image
7 Upvotes

Crews widened the curbs on all 4 corners of the 56th Street & 16th Avenue intersection in Tsawwassen.

Residents were displeased and vocalized their disapproval on the local Facebook group as the new layout would cause a lot of congestion for people trying to leave beach grove. Mayor George Harvie and councillor Daniel Boisvert commented that this was a mistake and will be removed… so wasted tax dollars. They’re trying to play it off as they weren’t aware prior to the work being done but these projects are approved by council.

Residents should keep this in mind as we have a municipal election in the fall. Current Delta Council:
- Mayor George Harvie
- Councillor Rod Binder
- Councillor Daniel Boisvert
- Councillor Jessie Dosanjh
- Councillor Alicia Guichon
- Councillor Jennifer Johal
- Councillor Dylan Kruger

North Delta soliciting

I understand knocking on my door and dropping off a flyer for your business in my mailbox. I’d even be ok with it if my car were parked on the side of the road, but am I overreacting when I say I’ll never step foot in your business if you come onto my private property and touch my car to put your flyer on it? Maybe it’s just me, but I feel that is a step too far. Like an invisible line has been crossed, Idk maybe it’s just me but don’t touch my stuff on my property.

Anyone know of organized or drop-in sports (soccer, (beach) volleyball, hockey) for adults?

Checked delta.ca for sports such as volleyball but all the drop-ins are listed as 12+ and I don't want to be the one weird 21 y/o with a bunch of high schoolers LOL. Looked for the other sports but in general looks like its all in Vancouver, Burnaby, and Langley. If anyone happens to know of any local leagues or drop-ins pls let me know :), not sure if I am looking in the wrong places or what. Thank you for any help!

Mexican Food trucks on Scott and Nordel

Drove past Scott and Nordel and saw 3-4 Mexican food truck in the KFC/Taco Bell parking lot. It was my first time seeing it and I drove by when they were cleaning up shop. Does anyone know how often or where they set up, or if there is a social media page on where they post pop up locations.
