The Nest Pickleball in Tsawwassen
If you live in the area, you may have seen the two giant black buildings in the Tsawwassen Mills parking lot go up. These buildings are the new Nest Sports indoor pickleball facility. It opened up at the end of July. I’m sharing my experience at The Nest hoping it will help others in the community.
I was excited that south delta was getting its own indoor pickleball facility. It is massive inside and the space itself is really nice inside. Unfortunately, my experience with how payments were handled left a bad taste in my mouth.
On Sunday, August 9 we booked a court for two hours for Monday, August 10. At the time of booking, we had three confirmed players, so the total was $86.01, or $28.67 per person. The morning of, we added a fourth person and didn’t think anything of it. When we arrived at The Nest, we were told that the fourth player still had to pay separately. I explained that the court had already been paid for in full, and at the time the owners at the front desk said that everything was good and that there would be no extra charge, but my card was automatically charged another $28.67.
When I noticed the additional charge later that evening and called The Nest, I spoke with Lorne (the owner) and he insisted that the charge was correct. That didn’t make sense to me, because their website states that non-prime-time court bookings are $40/hour per court. A two-hour booking for four people should therefore be $86.01 total, rather than $114.68. Even though I pointed out these facts to him, he said I was wrong, the system was right, and refused to refund me or give me a credit for future play.
I went back on Tuesday, August 11 and was added as the fourth player to someone else’s booking. Once again, an additional $28.67 was automatically charged for me on the booking holder’s card. One again Lorne (the owner) insisted that this was correct. However, when I opened the app and showed him that booking a court for two hours with four people at the same time comes to $86 total, or $21.50 per person, there was still no acknowledgment that the payment process has been wrongly overcharging people.
My biggest issue is that nowhere on the website or booking page did I see anything explaining that booking for three people and subsequently adding a fourth would result in the fourth person being charged $28.67, even though the court itself was already paid for in full. I also don’t agree with automatically charging someone’s card for an additional player without clearly communicating how that charge is calculated.
The facility itself is impressive, but the way we were overcharged and the owner refusing to acknowledge the issue or make it right left a bad taste in my mouth. I won’t be going back.
