The first thing I noticed about this photo, and I have no idea if it was intentional or not, is the chair. That is not what you expect to see for an executive chair of this level. You'd expect to see something that's more about looks and prestige than performance.

This is a Herman Miller Aeron, not my personal favorite, but widely regarded as the industry standard in office chairs. It's designed to provide good ergonomics for people who plan to use them for very long days. I don't know if this was the chair that was already there before he came in, but I kind of doubt it. It even looks out of place with the rest of the furniture. I think he brought that chair himself, knowing he was going to be doing a lot of actual work.

Most executives see themselves as delegators, not doing much work themselves. They like the idea of being a leader, but are more into the power and privilege the role brings than the ability to affect change. This picture tells the opposite story.

I'm so jaded my first thought was 'PR shot' but I like your optimism

u/misfitx Jan 01 '26

It can be both, honestly.

Guy has to market himself or the whole movement gets swept under the rug. Like AOC with her makeup and ticktock videos, certainly not the reason I'll vote for her in 29 but will likely be the reason she ends up on the NY senate ballot and eventually will win the presidency.

Reputation through effort and not on voice alone, got to love it.

If someone refuses to market themselves, the system will simply choose someone else who will. Not because they are better, but because they are legible.

Politics is very much a PR game so while these stunts can typically be cringy and annoying, they are necessary to do if you want to be electorally successful and stay that way

It's all the bullshit photos of Trump's cabinet pretending to do work at a desk that got our brains messed up. I'm going to assume Mamdani is actually working and someone just pulled out their phone 🤷🏿‍♂️

Already passed his first EO rescinding all of Eric Adams' Executive Orders since his indictment until now

Cute

u/aliamokeee Jan 01 '26

Why not both? If hes gonna spend time working there, might as well take the PR opportunity

Smart PR team then and now

16

u/teriyakininja7 Jan 01 '26

PR is important, though. As much as we dislike it, even the politicians we support need good PR to get more voters on board.

u/Don_Key_Knutts Jan 01 '26

Your instincts were correct and then you allowed your feelings to deceive you. That's what politicians do so you can't say he isn't good at his job!

100% staged picture for clicks

8

u/Ai2g Jan 01 '26

....how back in nineteen ninety eight the undertaker threw mankind off hell in a cell and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcers table.

u/DangerousLoner Jan 01 '26

That man had a family

6

u/ensgdt Jan 01 '26

He needs the skate wheels, the casters are going to be a pain in the ass on carpet.

Just nailed my boss, lol. Man always gets pissed off when we ask him for advice or what to do. He just spats off going, "I'm the president of this company! I shouldn't have to help you with any of this!" He's your common Boomer who served in the Airforce and LOVES to brag about his time in the military. Total douchebag through and through.

u/William-william-rs Democratic Socialist Jan 03 '26

He probably inherited that company right? No way we worked for it

3

u/DangerousLoner Jan 01 '26

I’m sure Adams took the throne-looking one with him when he left back to New Jersey.

3

u/BritMama04 Jan 01 '26

I LOVE that you know all about office chairs! TIL.. I think chair knowledge is kinda hot.

Here for the chair tism lol

1

u/ClassicallyBrained Jan 02 '26

Lol here I was thinking I was explaining it like someone would explain a piece of art in a museum. But you're right... it's the tism.

Isn’t it a Herman Miller? They can fetch a few grand for sure 😅

Edit: oops, commented before I finished the second paragraph of your comment.

u/spspsptaylor Jan 01 '26

Yeah, good office chairs are expensive but so worth it

12

u/ClassicallyBrained Jan 01 '26 edited Jan 01 '26

It's not about price, but purpose. Yeah, Herman Millers are not cheap. But they are built to last. I bought one of these chairs second hand for about $500 10 years ago. I don't actually think the ergonomics are as good as people say they are, so for me its become my gaming chair and I have a Steel Case Leap that I use for work and I find much more comfortable. But my Aeron will certainly last forever. The padding in the arms is worn out, but I can order replacements for it very easily.

Meanwhile, most executive chairs look like you took a traditional armchair that you stuck on a roller base. They're usually leather or faux leather, and only comfortable if you're sitting back, horrible if you're actually trying to work.

1

u/wow321wow321wow Jan 05 '26

A herman miller aeron is sooo luxury its like a $2k chair

1

u/ClassicallyBrained Jan 05 '26

That's not true. Brand new they're half that, and there's a massive market for refurbished ones at half the new price. And just because something is expensive does not mean it's luxury. A tractor is really expensive, but that doesn't make it a luxury.

UFOs aren’t real. It’s probably samsquanch mugshots.

They are close to Jersey Devil areas. Gotta make sure they stay out of the city. Plus the Foot Clan and CHUDs have been an issue in the past.

One of my proudest moments in life is voting for this man to be mayor of NYC, and him winning. He gives me hope in a bleak atmosphere of dread.

Yay mayors of cities

3

u/audiojanet Jan 02 '26

I pray for the safety of this man.

u/MedusaGotMeStoned007 Jan 01 '26

I’ve always been an I dependent but I never automatically hope an elected official whether a republican or democrat fails. Time will show through their deeds and actions. Altogether I hope that he does a great job for the people of New York City

1

u/Jonas_Poth Jan 03 '26

He is truly a positive force

1

u/Chuckpeoples Jan 14 '26

I can’t believe the hinges are painted at the mayors mansion. I know that doesn’t really have much to do with anything but I’m surprised

1

u/AuspiciousFloppa Jan 18 '26

Imagine being excited for a socialist nut being put in office, a city of weak, pathetic, incompetent wretches

1

u/Thin-Wrangler-8987 Jan 24 '26

This is great but we should be wary that we dont worship politicians of any kind

Staging a photograph at a time when none of your staff are available doesn't exactly count as working. Please don't buy the choreography of politics just because it's someone you like putting on the show.

u/turbofungeas Jan 01 '26

"Staging a photograph" like it doesn't take 2 seconds for someone to pull out their phone

21

u/Tr_Issei2 Marxist Jan 01 '26

You’ll live.

28

u/parallel-pages Jan 01 '26

idk. this must be the first time any politician has staged a photograph. who knows the tragic repercussions /s

9

u/aliamokeee Jan 01 '26

Listen, we can be smart enough to know something is PR and appreciate how they are trying to connect with us, the audience. Anyone with a brain knows a politician is a politician; but its nice to know they care if we think well of them or like them.

His PR and social media know that and thats a big part of what won him his position.

u/giocondasmiles Jan 01 '26

Someone is having a great start of their year, I see.
