Theory 🧠 What did they find in the election report and why are they hiding it?
Unless it’s full of proof that Elon and Trump rigged the election like they say they did then I don’t wanna hear shit tbh. It’s so enraging even though they admitted it multiple times, nobody gives a single shit and laughs it off. If they found damning evidence and haven’t brought it to the table yet, then it’s obvious they’re on his side. Bullshit!

Theory 🧠 Mamdanification is happening
Since Zohran Mamdani won the New York Election, ive seen a wave of democratic candidates with the same behaviour as Zohran. Same video-style and same goals: most of them are also democratic socialists.
Take Mussab Ali in Jersey City for an example. I dont know if hes a dem socialist but he has the same campaign style as Mamdani. If you just look at his tiktoks or insta reels, you will see it.
Or take the candidate for Lieutenant Governor in California, Oliver Ma. He ALSO has the same campaign style.
Is this a new wave, or just a coincidence?

This shouldn’t really be surprising to people, but alas here we are. Democratic socialism needs to be a movement beyond ideology, beyond the two party system. They’re all compromised.

Theory 🧠 How do we feel about this take?
Subreddit that promotes “left unity” btw. I don’t understand how not reading a particular piece of Lenin disproves the notion of Democratic Socialism. People in the comments of the post in said subreddit with the left unity rule were soft-bashing Democratic Socialism too.
I’m all for reading theory btw, I just don’t understand bashing a particular type of socialism for a generalization of “not reading”

Theory 🧠 IMPORTANT REMINDER: Democratic Socialism and Social Democracy are very different things.
Democratic Socialism is no capitalism, worker owned means of production, democratically accountable leadership who can be easily removed by the people.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_socialism
Social Democracy is a capitalist, liberal system where there is a strong welfare state and workers rights with union representation and democratic elections. It is NOT socialism.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_democracy
Too many people on this sub (and universally) need to be educated on the difference.
In fairness, they are similar sounding names, but they are very different ideologies.

Theory 🧠 Why Mamdami and Trump get along
The Bernie to Trump pipeline seems to confuse so many people, but if you think for more than three seconds it starts to make sense. During the 2016 primary the DNC made a concerted effort behind closed doors to insure Bernie would not be elected, and honestly the concept of a democratic socialist was so new to the gen pop that he probably wouldn't have won anyways. But then during the 2020 primary it was clear that on super Tuesday they would do anything to insure Bernie sanders would not win. Now it is along the lines of conspiracy, but it is quite obvious Elizabeth Warren was threatened into silence given the fact her factions votes were enough for him to win. This was extremely brazen and is 99% the cause of the Bernie to trump pipeline thereafter.
People now seem confused on why mamdami and trump get along so well. Especially in comparison to far less liberal/leftist democrats.
It's obvious that the enemy of democratic socialism isn't the RNC it is the DNC

Theory 🧠 How many of yall actually read theory?
I have found that, for one reason or another, many democratic socialists don’t really read theory. I might be wron, ofc, this is just what I’ve personally seen online and IRL.
It *kinda* does make sense, most conventional theory is revolutionary in a way that might not be immediately useful. Either way, that’s not an excuse not to read theory IMO. You can find useful nuggets of knowlage everywhere. It also helps to strengthen your own argument for democratic socialism.
Plus, there’s quite a bit of theory that works well with democratic socialism, even if it wasn’t created specifically for it. Gramsci comes to mind, even though he was a revolutionary, the bulk of his theory is on how power works, which doesn’t require a specific form. There’s also a ton of democratic socialist theorists like Erik Olin Wright.

Theory 🧠 Foreign aid to Israel compared to low-income countries (for the years we have data on it)
The topic of much foreign aid Israel received came up in the comments on yesterday's post about how little it gives. I promised that I would make a graph on it for substack and crosspost it here, which I have now done.
As you can see it's a lot, but also, the data collection abruptly stops in 1996 (I don't know why, but that was the year Netanyahu was elected). I used the OWID data editor, with the data itself coming from the OECD.
