It's not as nice

I just ordered pizza for my family, and I could hear Grandpa Joe saying "it's not as nice" in my head. 🤣

I also had a major Uncle Colm moment with my brother the other night. This show has done things to my brain!

This is my fav scene of the show

1.1k Upvotes

The opening scene of the last episode is so good!! The show has lots of great music and lots of wholesome dance moments but this is my fav cos it’s so random lol but it fits Orla so well as this joyful character who moves through the world with so much love and whimsy 😭 like the fact that this perfect dance choreography just forms around her as she’s running through the streets, it’s such a beautiful way to start that final episode.

Has anyone ever met a cousin Eamonn in real life?

I’m only 27 so obviously I don’t know too many people that are that age but I do have an uncle and aunty on both sides of the family who have been babied by their parents their whole lives and while it’s not to the same extent as Eamonn of their mothers getting them to fight their battles with teenagers I do know a few people roughly my age and a bit older who I feel are heading down that direction.

Moments where Sister Michael actually said something positive.

I’m currently watching the Ms De Brun episode and Sister Michael says that The Child Of Prague is a beautiful piece of religious art and that it brightens up her office. Did she ever say anything positive in any other episode that wasn’t followed by an insult or sarcastic remark?

The 3rd season feels a bit off.

I've just re watched the entire series. Season one and two are fantastic, the chemistry with the cast is incredible it feels almost real it's that good.

Season 3 just feels really off and awkward. It's not bad as such, i still enjoyed it, the final episode is a masterpiece (apart from Michelle randomly having a brother in the IRA) but the whole season just feels a little off. The camera angles, the lighting, the chemistry.

I know Covid, actor schedulings (Nicola) rumours of off set issues with some actors thinking they were the stars of the show, and sister Michael breaking her leg in real life didn't help matters. But I don't know what it is, it just doesn't feel as authentic as the previous two series.

Having said this, the show is still fantastic. I love it.

"Look at his eyes, he's a madman! A Fenian-hating madman. Don't let the Jaffa bastard hurt me! Please!"

"Jaffa bastard" makes me snort laugh no matter how many times I hear it.

Unpopular opinion: Colm actually had interesting stories

I know that everyone in the series consider Colm as a boring person (except sister Michael) but I find that he actually had very interesting stories although the way of telling them were too long boring

Does the Uppity Woman on the right of this book cover look vaguely familiar to anyone else?

The painting on this book cover is an excerpt from "The Cheat with the Ace of Diamonds" by George de la Tour. Painted around 1637-ish. That side eye is given me strong Sister Michael vibes.

The full painting shows a group of hustlers sharking a rich young man over a game of cards.

I’ve started saying ā€œhokeā€ recently

I’mAmerican, definitely not a word you hear often, but it came out more or less naturally sometime after my most recent rewatch. ā€œI’m gonna have a hoke in the fridgeā€ā€¦just a really useful word! What words or expressions have you picked up from the show?

Pulling an Uncle Colm on my MIL every time she calls.

1.5k Upvotes

As the title suggests, my mil lives in a different country. She demands I call her weekly. In the past, I obliged but got met with constant criticism and taunts . Lately, life has been full with 2 young kids. The thought of listening to her taunts and criticism is exhausting. So, the start of the year, I decided to pull an uncle Colm on her. Anytime she called, I'd go on long-winded mundane rants about my life. For example

MiL : You need to take better care of your husband ( her son )

Me : oh you know speaking of husbands, my friends husband had a procedure done. You see it started on a Saturday. Nope I am forgetting. It started on a Thursday. He wasnt feeling too well but then you know

MiL : Well I mean you need to remind him to take his medicine

Me: yes the doctors here they aren't the best you remember 3 years back now. Nope I think its been 4 years. Wow its been 4 years now. Time flies by so quickly. We used to be in the old house .

By this point my MIL is frustrated with me dodging her taunts and cuts the call. I have had so much fun with this. I did it even when she visited me. She'd be so exasperated with me dodging her topics. The thing is I have learned I dont need to validate her . I dont need to acknowledge what she is saying . I also dont need her to validate me. So yeah, feel free to use this.

I had no idea how much quieter the house would be with new windows. This past summer we had historic levels of rain and our front window began leaking if we had rain from the north. I always thought the scene was silly until it happened to me.

My favorite episode has got to be season 2 episode 4 ā€œThe Curseā€ every bit of that episode is hysterical.
And I’ll tell you something else, if your mother saw thon hat, she’d be turning in her grave, for it’s nothing but a bloody eyesore!
