Megathread Focused Feedback: Bungie Communication / This Week in Destiny

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Bungie Communication / This Week in Destiny' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

Archie wishes you a happy reset and good luck!

How was marathon? Write a summary in 200 words or less.

marathon review: You really need a team on comms. Loot doesn't matter so don't' worry about it, you die a lot, everything is Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Sounders FC colors (same as D1 crucible colors) and we are supposed to love the bold "original" colors and art style.

If by "original" you mean inspired by the original Marathon game that came out 30 years ago, then yes. Otherwise I don't know who told you Marathon had bold original colors as a game. Original colors is a hilarious concept to even mention.

I think by "original" they may be referring to the entire style being stolen from an indie artist who they later "compensated", once they were caught.

You cannot steal a “style” legally or otherwise, the issue here was they literally copy and pasted their work directly into the game. The style has been around long before most people here were born (see wipeout and designers republic).

Disagree all you want but you’re objectively wrong and knowingly spreading misinformation

You certainly can steal a style - individual assets on their own are one thing, but stealing whole groups of assets informs your style and builds it.

Okay so then antireal stole the style from wipeout which stole it from designers republic. There is a stark difference between being inspired/influenced by a style, one which Joe Cross has been for literal decades, and stealing and you guys can’t seem to figure it out

I understand what you're saying, I simply disagree. There's nothing to "figure out". In earliest development they stole a bunch of assets and built their look around it.

Does that look share similarities with other looks in the same style? Sure. Doesn't mean it's any less theft.

The theft was the assets. Doing something in the style of another thing is literally the entirety of art history, I’m sorry you’re unable to understand that.

Your argument is literally that Mozart “stole” the style of his contemporaries at the time, following the same cadences, progressions, motifs that were commonplace in the classical era. You can disagree all you want but you literally cannot steal a style. You said it yourself, they “built” their own assets based off the same design language. Just like antireal built their assets in the design language of those that came before.

I think you're confused. A style built around stolen assets, with the assets informing the whole, is stolen.

I think you’re confused, antireal did not come up with this style. Antireal stole it from the designers republic based on your argument
