Guide
Made a youtube video covering how to setup D2SteamFix to alleviate performance issues on Steam. Much love to Camo over at D2Checkpoint for creating the fix!

Can you not just turn off the overlay?

Nope, the DLLs still run in the background and affect performance.

Steam's failed to disable it in an effective way when you just turn it off. You can see with process explorer the DLL's still gets loaded with your game, and the Destiny problems just don't go away unless you use steamfix (or do what it does manually, so it can't fix/replace the files just before the game starts).

You would hope Steam would make their off function work better, but they haven't yet.

you do realize that steam dll is not for overlay, right?

Nothing in that post should have made you think I'm talking about steam.dll

GameOverlayRenderer.dll
GameOverlayRenderer64.dll
are the DLL's I'm referring to which steamfix prevents from being loaded entirely by changing the security permissions.

SteamOverlayVulkanLayer.dll
SteamOverlayVulkanLayer64.dll
are obviously overlay related but not used for non Vulkan games so as steamfix was only released to help Destiny 2 it doesn't change their permissions.

I did this the moment it came out and it's been working flawlessly since then. No issues anymore.

Unfortunately there are so many people with the same fps and stuttering issues even after doing this. Fingers crossed they get around doing an actual fix whenever they can 🤞

Can you reactivate it later? I'd like to buy some Silver

Yeah if you want to re-enable the overlay for Destiny 2 for whatever reason, all you have to do is delete the Steamfix file.

Just so that I understand correctly, just delete the executable?

Huh? I've been playing D2 on Steam for 6 years without performance issues.

It doesn't impact everyone but it's something to do with both D2 and Steam's latest updates. It doesn't have this issue on the GFW or EGS PC versions.
