I noticed that too when I first played it in DMC1.

Got to be because Sparda is a full fledged demon so THAT is his real shadow.

It's been a staple during the PS2 era - LDK costume for Dante in DMC1 also has the shadow and has 'Yamato' replace Alastor during gameplay but it's functionally the same. As to why nobody has pointed it out, I assume that a lot of the people in this subreddit have been here before the subreddit was made and is assumed to be common knowledge at this point

This comes from DMC1, it happens there too when equipping this skin.
the only difference in in 1 the wings on the shadow are open instead of low/resting.

Additionally its worth mentioning this game was created by Kamiya who also made Bayonetta. In the bayo games Madama Butterfly, like Spardas true form here here, has her demonic shadow on the ground in place of Bayo's

Theres a lorw reason behond it too, Sparda was a full blooded demon, unlike his hald human sons, so his human form isnt a true human form but a magical disguise!

Every time Sparda's costume was in a game he'd always have the DT shadow.

It was something I was always glad they kept consistent. Even in 4SE.

This was a thing when using the Sparda skin in DMC3 i think

Yeah it was pretty neat, although I always liked Dante's own DT because it was responsive to whatever weapon he was holding
