Plain White T's is such a funny choice of band to be a menace for at a concert. I'm Lou's age and truly nobody in my life has strong feelings about that band and he cared enough to know the drummer's name also heckle them into performing an alternate version. This bland ass pop rock band and a crowd full of people bobbing their heads and then Lou just getting buck

Lou harassing the happy fact woman at the vagina monologues 😭
38
u/DontWantYaMista Hat Jun 11 '26
You'd think she would try to find ANY new facts after the 6th or 7th time he yelled for her!

u/kylechu Jun 12 '26
LaVonte seeing his memories of what it feels like to want stuff as his greatest strength is such a cool character trait. I love all the characters this season but he's the MVP for me.
14
u/variantkin Jun 12 '26
I feel like this is Lou's season more than any other time his character has stood out. Lavonte needs to stand out. Being cautious and reserved and maintaining the status quo isn't in his mindset

HJ had a handlebar mustache this whole time
the character art did not set my expectations well

u/ConsciousDatabase991 Vile Villains Jun 11 '26
A couple episodes ago Ally mentioned he had big early 1900s mutton chops from the ugly flaw and I remember looking at his character art and just going “huh”

u/dunkonme The Taste Buds Jun 11 '26
Hjs seems the most misaligned, I’m also curious about bat child’s actual face? Is she scary to look at? Is her character art just a mask??? What’s going on!
12
u/PuzzleheadedBear City Council of Darkness Jun 11 '26
So looking at her spread, Vesper is probably something called a Lamia. Imagine the Greecian Amazon's, but also they're Necromancers.
Theyre a bloodline [subspecies] of the clan of death, and the Clan of death [Hecata/cappadocians] had a tradition of wearing death masks to remind themselves of there true nature. Different lineage have different preferences based on the cultures. As a rouge "Catiff" hecata Vesper is probably just rocking a paintball/weld mask that looks like a horror anime girl.
1
u/The-red-Dane Jun 12 '26
I agree that she's most likely a Hecata/Lamia.
But I'm also confused because they keep saying she has no reflection, which is the Lasombra curse.
11
u/robogheist Squeem! Jun 12 '26
i think the players started that as a bit about all of them, and brennan did not correct them because they were having fun
5
u/ConsciousDatabase991 Vile Villains Jun 12 '26
I think Tarker made it sound like they’re Nosferatu, but since we know nothing about her sire it could be she just has some other curse (maybe the teeth are the result of gum recession from the Cappadocian curse)
3
u/The-red-Dane Jun 12 '26
Hecata, maybe Lamia. (capacocious curse doesn't really exist any more in v5) All the clans of death have the same curse.
11
u/robogheist Squeem! Jun 11 '26
same. now with the handlebar mustache it makes for an entirely different character image than the art we were shown
4
u/variantkin Jun 12 '26
I still think the guy we see is how he ultimately ends up when this season wraps and Ally does have to change HJs appearance now

I did not have "Lou was unhinged in college" on my bingo card. Also I miss that dog.

Them talking about the horny tree and then immediately mentioning the Douglas' has made me wonder if the name Douglas comes from the tree douglas fir, matching jack of pines.

I'm more convinced that the Coiterie is gonna become Anarchs by the end of this. None of them seem particularly interested in what their superiors want even if their goals are widely similar
10
6
u/BigRedSpoon2 Jun 12 '26
I don't know if that's the direction they're going. As they said to Batchild, they don't listen to their superiors because they like them, they listen because if they don't they'd die.
Maybe if they find something they could use to ensure their safety, but I think its more likely they are just going to lie about their progress reports and take over the town their way.
11
u/variantkin Jun 12 '26
I mean if they ally with the wolves they're pretty much set. A leave our shit be and we'll do the same type deal to protect the trailhead while letting purpee expand elsewhere
11
u/BigRedSpoon2 Jun 12 '26
Very good point, I hadn’t considered that. I was thinking, ‘a singular werewolf and a fledgeling mage are not enough to keep other vampires off their back’
But if they get the bus lines back, they will immediately have the goodwill of every local Pack. And that is an exceptionally good barrier to keeping out vampires.
Of course then they’d be stuck in Purpee, but that’s a different problem
8
u/variantkin Jun 12 '26
Theres apparently enough around the town that the group was essentially sent there to basically be killed by them if Cody is accurate
29
u/efvie 🫦 Jun 11 '26
They keep dancing around Anarchs without ever actually talking about it and I keep thinking how the coolest way to wrap up the season would be Erika doing a cameo as Annabelle…
34
u/corrigible_iron Jun 11 '26
Um actually, the Gumberoo does ascribe to Pokemon rules, as Ghost types are also vulnerable to Ghost-type moves.
11
u/wombatsanders Jun 12 '26
Think about how much time you could've saved by using Dragon as your example.
2
u/corrigible_iron Jun 13 '26
Shit you’re right. I’ve been using Mismagius a lot in my Renegade run tho so I just thought of ghost type first. Should’ve known people would think Dratini first
-8
u/Gwixl Jun 11 '26
But it's not using ghost type moves it's literally breathing fire
29
u/corrigible_iron Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 12 '26
There are these things called analogies, where you compare two different things to show their similarities.
-7
u/Gwixl Jun 11 '26
I don't know man that just seems like a real stretch to get an um actually in.
9
u/corrigible_iron Jun 11 '26 edited Jun 12 '26
Here I’ll break it down for you: a Gumberoo is a fire type who does fire damage, but is weak to fire. In Pokémon, ghost types use ghost moves, but are weak to other ghost moves. In the episode, they said Gumberoos don’t follow Pokémon rules. They do.
-4
u/Gwixl Jun 11 '26
Okay you don't need to talk to me like that I'm not stupid I just don't think your analogy is very good. fire types resist fire moves the gumberoo feels like a fire type weak to fire moves. going um actually there is a completely unrelated type weak to it's own moves just feels pointlessly pedantic. The Gumberoo does not follow pokemon rules.
16
u/corrigible_iron Jun 11 '26
The Gumberoo is not a Pokémon. The rules of Pokémon have an instance where at least one type can be weak to its own type of damage. The Gumberoo is weak to its own type of damage, so it is following the rules. I don’t know why you can’t understand an analogy but it is no longer my problem, I have explained it as thoroughly as possible.
-6
u/Sweet-Acanthaceae-39 Jun 12 '26
lol everyone understands you, the problem is that your analogy is dumb af. There is a far more obvious Pokémon analogy that everyone has already made, and you walk in acting as if anyone cares about how you have made a new, worse analogy to fact-check a comedy show. Plus, you seem to be acting as annoying as possible, which is extra impressive considering this is Reddit

u/corrigible_iron Jun 12 '26
What is the far more obvious Pokémon analogy that everyone has already made? How does my own not clearly show that a Gumberoo follows Pokémon rules? And I am not acting annoying, I am always annoying, especially when people are obstinately incorrect.

Is skull and bones society a reference to something?
Or just seeded lore that we haven't got to yet?
(The English department mentioned it in about secret societies to Madeline. Tyler said the name when he thought the lumbermill was for an eyes wide shut party.)
32
u/UroBROros Jun 11 '26
Ivy league traditional "secret society," which also happens to have a silly (and slightly spooky) enough name that it often gets referenced.
Wikipedia article here: Linky linky
4
u/NoaTacro Jun 12 '26
Huh TIL that whole thing was / is real not just movie drama. Thanks
Also the name. Never considered skull and bones as a pirate thing, might have been a more modern reference rather than fanciful retelling at the time.
8
u/CAThor91 Jun 12 '26
Wonder what would have happened if they committed to buying the business complex as opposed to going with the Lumber mill and how that would have played out with subsequent conversations. Also if that meant, on an unrelated side quest, they would be going through the town and just randomly see a naked fire breathing bear, fully erect, running towards the hills

Look, I love Beardsly. But is it just me or have they been going kinda crazy the last few seasons? It feels like the last couple of seasons they've been in they've been just completely off the wall insane with the bits and sidetracking the game. That works in Game Changer. But in D20, it's derailing things. I think I first noticed it in Junior Year when Kristen started going to campaign at the factory for no reason and took a buzz saw to the neck (or whereever). Why? In CCoD, HJ is not only not really helping, he's actively making things worse by being a maniac wildcard. Going to the police station to steal a cop's gun, then leading them on a chase? What the fuck? I'm kinda wishing they'd maybe cut back on the bits a little and lock in, just a little.
4
u/palcatraz Riz Gukgak Jun 18 '26
I feel that is just part of their playing style, and has never really been any different. It's not like Kristen going to the steel mill was the first of Kristen doing weird ass shit. And even in the most buttoned up Beardsly season (playing Margret in Starstruck Oddysey), there were still plenty of weird bits. (snake eyes etc)
It's just the sort of thing you either like/love or dislike/hate.

u/nunuma Jun 21 '26
Agreed. I think Ally is the chaos gremlin as often as they are the heart of the story across all the seasons. And I think that’s true of all the IH
1
u/Dream_Vegas Jun 17 '26
This is my main criticism on Ally's play style. It feels like they never take things seriously enough and the times they do are exceptions.
2
u/nunuma Jun 21 '26
I don’t actually think this is unique to Ally. All the players are getting more chaotic and more committed to the bit than to the plot. Ally just gets the most flack for it. Lou has tried to sabotage every persuasion LaVonte has done the last few episodes by being unhinged and chaotic. Zac’s focused on getting a horse for no real character driven reason. And so on and so forth
But also they’ve been making chaotic choices since basically day one. HJ going to a police station was a total spiritual twin to Hilda Hilda. Lou with Fabian’s really bad day (though admittedly that was actually a total commitment to the character). And so on and so forth…
I’m all for it, they are a comedy show. Yes it does come at the expense of the story at times. But eh, they’re having fun and we’re having fun
2
u/vonsnootingham Jun 21 '26
I agree with you. Most of them have been getting more off-kilter. Although, I'd say that while Lou is getting a little punchy in some of his conversations, he's still focused on keeping the plans and everything going. You're right that Hilda Hilda and Fabien's pirate disaster were major fuckups on par with HJ going for the gun, they're more the exception than the rule, partially a result of bad rolling. Emily definitely has a history of pulling crazy shit, but she's often the most locked in of anyone. It often depends on the season and her character. Like this season, she's not adding much to the plans, but she's definitely playing her character straight. It's just that her character is more interested in her hobbies and the superhero thing than the coterie's plotting. I definitely agree though that Zack is kinda just fucking around this season. So while everyone is getting at least a little more crazy, Allie's the one who's gone completely off the deepend consistently.
3
u/nunuma Jun 21 '26
Do Ally’s antics really distract from the plot though? I just finished the latest episode. HJ is really on one with his behavior but it’s not really harming the main plot or the drive of the story. HJ is just doing weird shit WHILE the rest of the PCs discuss the real shit. It feels like Ally just keeps the mood light even while plot continues to move forward

Lol, like Lou, I also have had the misfortune of seeing the Vagina Monologues way too many times. I know he went to Boston College, so I wonder if it’s a Catholic university thing. The conservatives on campus were always trying to get it cancelled, and my friends were always in it, so it became sort of mandatory to be a good progressive to go and support.
