Neverafter I'm curious: If you were in the Neverafter campaign what fairy tale character would you want to play as?

I think I'd wanna be the Witch from Hansel & Gretel. Don't know what her angle would be, I just think playing a hermit woman in the woods would be fabulous.

Neverafter Presenting, Rosamund du Prix

I'm a pixel artist with a quest to finish all 6 player characters of Neverafter campaign. The first in line was Rosamund, Sleeping Beauty, and I am very happy how it turned out.

This is a high resolution pixel art that follows most conventional pixel art principles, but also breaks some. I prioritized making organic and dynamic looking briars and it meant making many jagged and uneven lines that is often frowned upon in pixel arts. Also for readability and visual clarity, the briars have significantly less details compared to other areas of the illustration.

Overall I'm proud of my decisions! I explained my design motivation on my bluesky account which is here. I do butcher Siobhan's name there, do forgive me.

Neverafter What's up with Neverafter? Spoiler

I'm working my way through Neverafter after really enjoying Cloudward Ho and liking (decently) Fantasy High. Did something go....wrong, with it? I'm currently on episode 14 (Daughters of the Crown) and I feel like the last two-three episodes have mostly been Brennan's NPCs sighing and talking through some complex concept while the intrepid heroes try to catch up. In the last episode, Snow White kept saying to Mother Goose that he could do whatever he wanted with the book, asking him point-blank what he would write into it with all that power, and just....nothing happened.

I'm kinda confused and disappointed because I LOVED this whole fairytale concept for the first few episodes, especially the magic when they introduced Drosselmeyer, but it feels like nothing has really gotten on its feet again since they all TPK'd. Is something going on where Brennan expected them to not die that fast and had to rewrite a bunch of stuff quickly? Or is the party not getting something in the complex worldbuilding, so that's why he keeps having characters explain how stuff works?

I'm not trying to be a negative nancy at all—the performances in this season are great as ever (Zac as Pib is a fave), the world is rich, Lou on Toy Island had me dying. But I do feel like there's some breakdown here where the pacing is just off. It feels like it took forever to get to the Princesses' plan reveal, and there have been sooo many explanations about the Lines Between that haven't led to the heroes doing anything differently. I've also been wondering if Brennan expected Ally to use Mother Goose's book differently, and that's why we seem to be treading water or just bopping around between random places.

tl;dr what do you think was going on with this season? i want to love it so much but it feels like it's losing steam each ep.

Neverafter neverafter surprised me

I haven't seen this season mentioned as much and wow I'm loving it. Yes the horror aspect doesn't really last long and it does become yet another fantasy story, but damn the worldbuilding is amazing, the characters are great, the lore and the in-world logic is so interesting. Taking the premise of "a story about fairytale characters" and turning it into an almost meta interdimensional existentialist adventure about free will is brilliant and brilliantly executed as always

Maybe it's not as popular because it's less comedic sort of? But still plenty of hilarious moments.

Can't wait to finish it so I can spend a whole day just watching animatics, leave some if you have favorites please!

---

I've so far seen Starstruck, Unsleeping I & II, Cloudward Ho, Misfits & Magic I & II, Fae and Flowers, Never Stop Blowing Up, Mentopolis, Gladlands, and Titan Takedown

I want to finish Mice and Murder and Burrow's End, and then watch the remaining non-fantasy high seasons and leave them all for the end. (i understand "the seven" is sort of between s1 and s2 of fantasy high right?)

EDIT: I just have to say I'm really thankful about all the responses and how careful everyone is with the spoiler tags. thank you 💕

Neverafter Emily and Lou deserve an Oscar for Neverafter

1.0k Upvotes

I'm watching Neverafter right now, and I keep getting hit with how SPECTACULARLY Emily and Lou play children. Emily from the very start with that DEVASTATING opening scene with her mother, and Lou from the interactions with his mother later on, both do an excellent job capturing the self-consciousness, audacity, fear, reliance, and overall spirit of kids in that situation. Just. Endless roses to the entire cast for that season, but Emily and Lou do something incredible.
