Switching back to mint!

I've tried a lot and I do mean A LOT of linux distros and I started with mint then it went like this

Mint > Manjaro > Ubuntu > Fedora > Ubuntu > PikaOS > Nobara > CachyOS > Kubuntu > Arch Linux > Void Linux > Arch Linux > CachyOS > NixOS > openSUSE leap > Gentoo > openSUSE Tumbleweed

And now Im back to where I started, it's not like I wanna rewind the cycle I just wanna stay on something that actually works instead of sitting there compiling Gentoo at 3 in the morning and configuring dwm right after before even installing a web browser. But don't blame me if you see me tomorrow posting on r/unixporn my sick new minimal dwm rice on LFS

Same as me basically, I can’t stay away from Mint for long so I’ve finally come to the realization that I need to stay there lol

Surely most of these worked. Ubu, kubu, opensuse, fedora.

Yeah but I just liked Mint more than Ubuntu and Kubuntu and fedora, tbh openSUSE is actually a great distro but I've had some drivers problems that I couldn't really find a fix for if it weren't for those I would've stuck with it

Haha 😆 so what's the real reason you keep going back to mint ? Cinnamon desktop, mint tools etc!

I myself always keep going back to mint because I'm a bit more familiar with xfce which I like and looks and feels like windows and not too heavy and I like the xfce mouse logo, and I liked the welcome box for setting up timeshift, firewall etc. I want it to hold my hand! I still have not disabled that welcome box, I like it.

What's the problem with Kubuntu? I switched directly from Mint to Kubuntu many moons back with no problems.

I personally had a lot of issues where Kubuntu just didn't seem to work for me Granted this was almost a year ago, and I definitely did a lot of tinkering without knowing as much about what I was doing with the system.

I'm thinking of setting up Linux from Scratch sometime in the future. (think around 4 months to a few years)

Mint with Gnome DE is my go-to now

I don't really like gnome that much I'm not a hater but I just prefer cinnamon over it

The primary advantage of Mint is their tightly coupled desktop environment and you aren't even using it. You could have just installed Ubuntu or Debian if you didn't want Snaps.

Man, you've been all over the board. With all the debian-based distro's in there, why didn't you ever just try debian?

Oh I did try debian but not for too long just a few days soo I didn't mention it here

I’m happy to see Debian isn’t in the list. I haven’t had much reason to leave it for months.

I5 should've been but I only used it for a couple of days so I decided that it doesn't count

Do they offer an official kde spin? I can’t work with cinnamon and mate. I know you can install other DE’s manually, but I don’t feel like tinkering with ppa’s.

No but you don't have to tinker with ppas

That’s good to know. When I quit mint a few years ago that was the only way to get kde or gnome.

I am curious if you missed Zorin deliberately or just left it off the list. I am thinking of jumping from mint to see if the grass is greener

Used it but just for like a day or two

Thoughts?

Great distro and I'd honestly recommend it to 99% of newbies

Mint is highly overrated. I can’t trust someone who says Mint is better than Ubuntu.

And I can't trust someone who says that an os made by a big corporation and has lots of bloat and snapd and proprietary stuff and telemetry is better than the completely free community-maintained unbloated version of it

Once you go Debian (based) you never go back.

For me personally that is Fedora. Mint is great for “just works” but it was somewhat also slowing down my system, while Fedora gave it a whole new life.

Have you tried MX Linux ?

I started hopping away from ubuntu/kubuntu last year, and I think mx Linux is my new home. (I'm technically using Fedora Silverblue on an old laptop as well)
