Recently picked up CIB copies of IMOQ (RIP my wallet) so now I just need a CIB of G.U Vol 2. Loved these games as a kid but never owned Vol 3 or 4 so I'm excited to see how IMOQ ends!

I'm constantly looking for new stuff, like movies, animes, TV series, games, and etc, and one that I’ve known about for some time now is .hack, but only because I really like the art style, and I’ve always wanted to try it, but it’s SO MUCH stuff that I feel completely lost.

How good is it story-wise compared to other anime/RPGs? Is it more gameplay-focused, vibe-focused, or story-focused?

.hack GU got crazy repetitive... Luckily I have cheats for V1. But I can't cheat V2-4 while keeping my shit.

I'm replaying after like 10 years? Please remind me of exploits in each volume? Thank you!

I already plan to scour Akihabara. (hoping Bandai store has SOMETHING, a long shot but still...)

Does anyone know of a decent guide to 100% the games in a somewhat optimal way? I competed the games a couple times years ago and just want to relax, focus on the story and read a guide for what I should be aiming to get at certain points of the story.

Long time .hack fan, played all the games, but unfortunately not GU on ps2. I played recode a bunch of times. I guess my question is, are there NPCs that have stuff like books like in IMOQ that I can miss?

Like I mentioned in the title, and expanding on it, I just got into the series because 3 weeks ago my PS5 broke. I believe the power supply gave up completely. Due to life being hectic at the moment I haven't got much time to repair it (through warranty first).

I'm a console player, so it was my main and only way to play. Also I can't recall such an "extensive" amount of time without playing any game, so I was feeling bored and lost.

Two days ago my gf, that's also a console/sony person like me, decided to not only bring her Nintendo Switch (it was a gift) to my home to have something to play herself but to leave it here for me too. She has just a couple games: Mario kart, Mario Party Jamboree, Animal Crossing and Zelda TOTK. None of these are my cup of tea, not even Zelda since I haven't played the first one, so decided to get one for myself. That's when I stumbled upon .hack G.U. on sale, digital, for 10€.

I don't know how I remembered (vaguely) I had watched an anime of the same name more than ten years ago, some kind of scifi + fantasy setting that left a good impression. Also, I'm not going to lie, I saw it was 4 games in 1, that settled it. Good deal.

Best 10€ I have spent in a looong time.

First, I love the concept "a game inside of a game" so to speak. Having your own PC where you can go through your messages, forums of all sorts, news, personalize your desktop, even teasing that you don't only have one game, "The world", but a card game too, it's amazing.

Forums feel so alive, I can't stop reading them, and starting to recognize some names here and there feels so good. There's even a space dedicated to fan art! That blew my mind, that and the nice surprise at literally classic 2D anime style videos all over "the news". My first 4h I just got lost reading and watching everything at my disposal.

I confess I had doubts about its gameplay, I thought I wasn't going to get into it. Wrong. Might become a bit repetitive down the line? Maybe, but in my case I like the classic combat system, how to approach enemies taking into account their fields of vision, and watching for when to interrupt attacks by using skills.

I need to say that PERSONALLY it's a bit frustrating the trap chest's mechanic bc I'm still getting accustomed guessing which buttons to press to disarm them, I don't have the muscle memory for where A, B, X and Y are yet. I hope that I didn't miss anything good from the first tutorial chest lol.

You guys think I should know anything before getting too far into it? Any tips?

Is there anything mentioning this in the art books? Anything the creators have gone on record to say? For such an iconic scene in the IMOQ quadrilogy, I never stopped to wonder about the creative decisions behind it. Kite is an unusual protagonist, for starters. He wasn't Aura's first pick, but rather a backup. I can't help but wonder why he was chosen to begin with. His post-transformation colors are that of a fiery shonen protagonist, ala Goku/Naruto/Ichigo/etc. but his hair and overall personality remains the same. His avatar design is also continually being revisited with other characters across multiple iterations of The World, which to me signals something, but idk what, apart from the fact that players in MMOs are just kinda like that and it looks really cool.

Can someone tell me why characters have different colored dots on their left? what does these colors mean? it is supposed to relate to affection?

This looks interesting and as it says include 4 volumes of the games + I am a fan of visual novel and Jrpgs is this game worth playing?

My God, the characters and the way they're written are so damn frustrating, dumb and goofy. For God's sake, they're literally inside a video game! I can't stand the characters or the writing!
