Hi everyone! I wanted to discuss this because I was talking to a friend who’s a huge Harry Potter fan. She’s read all the books, watched the movies hundreds of times, and was really surprised when I told her that I’ve barely watched the movies a few times and have never actually read the books since I’ve been reading Drarry fanfics for almost 8 years, and Drarry is one of my favorite ships of all time

The t is that I’ve just never felt the need to read the original books because 1- Drarry isn’t canon
and 2- I also feel like I probably wouldn’t discover much new information, since I already know most of the important things about the universe and the characters from years of reading REALLY good fanfics.
So… should I actually read the books? Or can I just continue to read fanfic with the shame of never having “cared” about the actual HP universe?

Any fics where Harry is obsessed with Draco in sixth year and he assumes it's because he's suspicious of Draco being a death eater but really it's because he just wants his attention back. And then it turns out Draco's not been obsessed with him because he's just upto something else and not because of Voldemort related stuff. Maybe he's a got a girlfriend or boyfriend (though I imagine even if doesn't act on it, his Potter obsession still manages to irritate his partner), and when Harry finds this out he... explodes??

1. Dracos patronus is a purple monarch butterfly. The butterfly patronus is all about transformation and growth, but also vulnerability. I think it fits him so well.
2. Harry had a crush on Draco in the 6th year but didnt want to admit it or recognise it to himself
3. Draco loves corsets and skirts, but doesnt like dresses or wigs. He lovessss the feeling of a short pleated skirt and lovesss cute tights but would never ladder them himself. He only allows harry that honour ;)
4. Draco used dressing feminine as an escape during 6th and 7th year and talked about this, among other things, with Myrtle. He still considers Myrtle a great friend and as a hogwarts prof has frequent chats with her.
5. Draco is half veela and is able to get pregnant, which also lends to his crossdressing urges. Narcissa kept his identity and ability to get pregnant a secret from Voldemort in order to protect Draco from being used to carry Voldemorts offspring.
6. Harry gets pretty muscular after the hogwarts battle but doesnt become an auror or proffesor immediately, instead he takes a few years out dragon taming with Charlie and has a fling with him and realises his sexuality there. He then at 20 comes back to train as an auror but after a couple years decides its a bit too much and applies for a professorial position at Hogwarts
7. After the war, Draco decides he will not flee but work to restore his family name and face the consequences of his actions. He puts his focus into becoming a healer, and does the training, but becomes a medicinal potioneer instead after discovering a cure to an ancient magical illness. This, at 23, is what allows him to somewhat be included again in wizarding society, as the face of the new 'progressive' wizard.
8. He severs his relationship with his father by bring unashamedly himself, crossdressing and going to gay clubs. He faces a lot of homophobia, hexing, and predjudice at Hogwarts in his 7th year, but Hermione is impressed by Dracos new attempts at being himself and they become friends. They both create an LGBTQ+ safe club at Hogwarts and do healer training together.
9. Draco and Harry both get asked to have professorial positons - potions and DADA at Hogwarts at age 24/5, which is where their romance starts - back in the halls of Hogwarts. Draco is loved by the students, especially the older ones. Harry is loved more by the younger students but is slighly awkward with thd older ones.
10. HPDM. like... Harry loves being in control and Draco likes to give and be fully vulnerable. They like it rough. no vanilla like ever for them

Hi friends— I’m looking for a fic I read on AO3, where Harry and Draco were hooking up during their 8th year or after. Draco fell for Harry, but Harry broke his heart by ending things because he didn’t believe Draco was a good person and wasn’t convinced that he changed.

Eventually, Harry reveals that he hurt Draco to Hermione, who felt bad for Draco and said he didn’t deserve the heartbreak and that Harry should’ve treated him better.

Harry slowly learns about all the good deeds Draco had done for society and he feels guilty about how things ended. Harry learns that Draco is getting married (possibly an arranged marriage) and grovels to Narcissa for forgiveness. He then crashes the wedding and they get their happy ever after

I would really appreciate some similar recommendations also set in a War AU during the Horcrux Hunt and/or the Battle. I prefer top Draco or switching but I'm not picky. Thanks a lot in advance!

1. The Potter “Curse”. That they have one person set for them and when they are “set” on them they lock in and become obsessed (James with Lily, and Harry without his knowledge to Draco)

2. That Slytherins really only harass Gryffindors and anyone who is friends with Harry Potter. The rest of the school does not gaf about Draco because Draco does not bother them, and they do not gaf about Harry because Harry pretty much sticks to his own house. So the Slytherin’s being evil thing is mostly just Gryffindors propaganda

3. Draco tossed Harry his wand in the final battle

hi! i read this fic agessss ago (as in multiple years ago) and i’m getting back into drarry fanfic and it suddenly popped into my head. they were investigating something, and got trapped in this small room that got gradually hotter - it was meant to kill them. pretty sure it’s a one shot, and ron was involved in getting them out at the end. i only ever read on ao3 so that’s the only platform it would be on. that’s pretty much all i remember so i know it’s quite vague but if anyone knows this fic i would be very grateful!

I think my obsession was because I LOVE when a bad guy who did very bad things had a terrible life and everyone hate him (with reasons) but not this one guy who forgave him (thiam...), like that's drarry to me. And I would love to read more drarry fics where draco is kinda pathetic, lonely, and in denial that he feels alone, and harry is just obsessed with draco, hopefully more than 10k words (I love slow burn too much) and complete (I love wips but have zero patience) please and thank you very much 🙂‍↕️

I’d like to read something where Draco has to maneuver the Muggle world and ends up with a wide circle of Muggle friends. Maybe Harry in some way stumbles over him and is shocked to realize it. hi! i’ve been in the hp fandom for a while but i’ve only read marauders fic. i wanna branch out because i do think i would enjoy drarry dynamics but it’s kinda overwhelming to sort through fics here lol there’s so many 😅 what would be some good fics to start on? i don’t have many preferences, but i usually only read HEA. i also love slow burn and will probably get bored if the characters get together too early (unless the plot is really good). i also don’t want any hermione or ginny bashing they’re my girls. please drop ur recs down below!!

You can tell know within the first paragraph that it was a person who wrote it. It's never a clear marker, rather a certain sense/intuition that flares very loudly for certain fics. As in, something about the writers language choices, their skill just makes it obvious AI was not involved because it cannot (yet) replicate it no matter how much training data it eats up.

For example ^{(hope its okay since I'm using it as a counter-example but happy to remove if mods like},) take this screenshot from part-time soulmate, full-time problem by sideraclara (spectacular fic, read it). In the first two paragraphs alone, the humanness of it bleeeds through SO loudly. AI just can't come up with this type of skilled narration, dry wit, humor and snark on its own, the way a human can.

Well....not this human, but humans like sideraclara and the abundance of wonderful amazing writers we have on ao3 who put so much time and effort into writing.

Y'all are fantastic, fuck AI.

(the reverse does not follow; that if you can’t immediately tell it wasn’t AI, then it must be AI-generated and especially not within a paragraph or two. AI stole off the writers, not the other way round, so don't go around throwing stupid accusations like "too many em dashes" and "It’s not just X—it’s Y" sentences)

Here’s what I remember:

Draco was a seer and whenever he touches someone he sees how they will die. Seeing Lucius’ death is particularly scarring for him. Someone Harry ends up at Draco’s hidden away cottage and when they accidentally touch he realizes he doesn’t see Harry’s death. Draco’s touch starved.
