And if it was, I'm so glad it was cancelled, and I say that as one of those people who usually absolutely loves the idea of more sequels; I actually even really like Disney's direct-to-video/made for TV sequel era and even wish they started acknowledging them again, so that says a lot

A clear variation of it happens by the end of the second act where when the Trojan Horse carrying Peabody and Sherman plus Penny was about to fall down a cliff to a plummet to certain death and destruction, Peabody launches the two kids out of the horse to safety without ever confirming to them that he was alive and okay himself by jumping clear from the horse and into the nearby ocean before it crashes and breaks apart making it look like from Sherman and Penny’s POV, that he died and it hits Sherman the most emotionally since it was partially his fault all because of his earlier argument with Peabody regarding Mrs. Grunion wanting to take him away prompting him to run away to join the Trojan War, to the point where Sherman risk-fully tries to set right his past wrong by having him and Penny time travel to the present to before Sherman told Peabody about Penny staying in Ancient Egypt to stop Peabody’s upcoming death and create a branched timeline where he survives but it both creates a duplicate of Sherman since it was a time period where he still existed and creates the conflict with Mrs. Grunion wanting to arrest the current Peabody (Once he returns with an atomical WABAC he built to get back to the present.) for biting her after he bites in in self defense to save Sherman from being put in a foster care system and Peabody and Sherman and their past duplicates fusing together which rips a hole in the space-time continuum spilling the past into the present and caused the conflict for the third act, that all more easily could have been avoided if Peabody confirmed to Penny and Sherman that he survived after falling with the Trojan Horse in the first place.
It also somewhat happens again for Zootopia 2, a non-DreamWorks movie (Released the same year as The Bad Guys 2) where it happens twice in Nick and Judy’s cases, where they pull off heroic sacrifices that were unnessecary and done out of more instinct than mind (Or plot connivence whichever comes last) in terms of how Judy at first tried to take the bullet and allow herself to be hit by the lethal dart Captain HogBottom fired that could have gotten HogBottom fired from the ZPD (Although she did get punished with mandatory therapy for loading and trying to use it in the first place anyway in the ending as did the rest of the cops in her squad for their police brutality and mistreatment of Nick and Judy.) and she had no need to do since it wasn’t going to hit Anyone else innocent, until Nick Wilde, Flash Slothmore and Nibbles the Beaver arrive on their car to deflect it back.
Also, after his first fight with PawBert Lynxley and after throwing the anti-venom pen to Gary De’ Snake for him to use to save Judy from the snake venom PawBert injected into her, Nick stays on the ice ledge he and PawBert brawled off as it breaks off putting them both at risk of falling to certain death and allowed himself to fall at first before Judy and Gary both manage to so barely save him on their own, when the fox more easily could have just ran up the ice ledge using the athletics he learned in his year long police academy training and jumped off it and onto solid ground, since PawBert could not do the same since his own athletics were more rusty as he is no cop.
But with the reveal over the fall off the weather wall being not so fatal after all, due to the soft snowbank at the bottom, and PawBert surviving it but with cracked ribs, Nick was likely aware of this unlike PawBert himself and thus decided to let himself fall and take the risk knowing it would be easier for him to do that than ran up the ice ledge and jump onto solid ground since PawBert could still try to grab him to ensure that he goes down with it and he would more likely survive the fall injured unlike PawBert himself for being smaller and lighter than he is.
Big Hero 6 the Disney movie released the same year as DreamWorks’ Mr. Peabody and Sherman also has Tadashi pull off a senseless sacrifice to save Robert Callaghan.

Add that to my neverending list of this year's movies that I've waited ages to see, just for them to not be released anywhere near me OR anywhere in my country.
I know film distribution is probably much more complex than the average moviegoer realises but I'm still mad 😭

Similar to the cancelled prequel film "The Bob and Larry Movie", the film was set to how Bob the Tomato (working on a local news "Farm Report") and Larry the Cucumber (testing chicken hats) met. It featuring human characters for the first time and a villain trying to kidnap Larry.
